Thread: [Release]KCC (Kostic Chronology Costumes) - included in the SSHIP 098

Yes, in my opinion also think that king could have crown helmets and even some gold plated helmets or armor with gold parts to simulate his great wealth and power as king (they should wear the best armor) and different crown styles as you say, but this can also be differentiated from their battle helmets, like for example more helmets from Eastern Europe for Hungarians and Poles different from Western kings such as French, Spanish or English.
About textures only know that i see in other mods as bellum crucis, deus vult and others... Maybe Lifth and Paleologos cand you help better with their graphics knowledge...
Here some pics about kings in battlefield and their crowns or golden helmets.

And this for a norwegian king? With a luxurious nordic helmet(i know that is a bit older for medieval era but it is a idea about different king style helmets for differents factions)

The king's armour should follow the classical evolution. It doesn't make sens to have the king in partial plate armor during the 12th century. That's one of the current isssue in SSHIP with the officers in full plate armours.

Regarding the Norwegian helmet, that's actually a viking one. I need to check because I'm actually not convinced that it was till in use during the 12th century

Indeed, yet the evolution of any fashion related thing, not just armor, has always taken place in a gradual continuum, not in discreet revolutionary leaps.
I believe the recommendation was that the armor of wealthier individuals can realistically be one tier ahead.
Take a look at this thread: Knightly Armour Progression

Not just SSHIP, nearly every mod has inherited that from vanilla.

Actually I believe it is pre-viking, a Wendel era artifact and quite unlikely to have been worn in battle, most likely a parade accoutrement.

Of course, in fact it's one of the things I hate so much in the game (full plate armor in generals that live in 12th century), but for the best quality in armour for king about 12-13th centuries? Maybe golden chain mail? The pics before showed are only images for a idea about crowns

@paleologos yes, this helmet was about Wendel era, but for norwegian what do you think about a more "nordic style"? Because typical nasal helmet can be used for the majority of kings helmets... So maybe a luxorious nordic helmet with golden parts?

@ j.a.luna, and what about the accuracy then?
If not accurate, that kind of helmet won't be in SSHIP. Please check your sources before proposing. Thanks.

Tiny nitpicking, but hey, it doesn't hurt
The double headed eagle only came into common use in the HRE by the 15th century, yet many early HRE units have the double headed eagle on their tunics. It should actually be a single headed eagle for the early and high units.

Yes Lifth, my apologies about my previous image(Wendel era), only i want represent a idea about "luxurious nordic style helmet".
But still in 12 th century was common the use of "viking helmets", the Gjeemundbu helmet, maybe this type of nordic helmet can have "gold pieces" for simulate the rich helmet of a norwegian king.

Thank you for all your good ideas, images and advice.

To make variations according to the factions would be good, but I try to find a tip allowing to use the same model 3D at first. In fact, my model has 2 versions: one with crowned helmet, one with the crown placed on the camail (which does not seem absurd provided that the crown also plays a protective role).

This version is provisional and incomplete, but you get the idea ...

The golden chainmail is perhaps abusive for most western kings in the 12th and 13th centuries. Maybe justified for factions from the east ?

For the helmet, I have here an interesting model of a French helmet dated 1120 who could perhaps reconcile everyone :

Well why not ? That way I dedicate myself to other units. I quickly attach the Ms3D model. You already have the texture. Thank you for your help !

I will try to make a reasonable variety.
The simplest one would be a jeweled helmet such that a King would want to show.

Take a look at this, I think it is reasonable good for the 12th century, but I will make more.

I replaced the mail coif with one of mine.
The face is Patrick Stewart, I believe it's better than the childish faces of GeminiSandy.
I will add chinstraps to this one and then try to make one a bit fancier before I attempt to make the one you asked.

Thank you for your quick suggestions.
Perhaps my remarks will disappoint you and I am sorry.

1- For starters, the patterns of the crown are well rendered and perhaps this is a solution for a crown. You did not use the alpha channel to cut out patterns. It is more this aspect there that I would like to see for France.

2- For my part, I prefer to keep the "more childish" faces of GeminiSandy. My KCC sub-mod is not intended to seek a realistic photo image, but rather to find a graphic style consistent with the whole game while trying at best to respect the costumes of the time. Your king face is fine, but in the game, the player knows the face of his generals by the portraits. A beardless young king represented by your model would be inappropriate. This is why I generally choose to show the faces of my generals as little as possible so as not to break the consistency with the portraits seen on the campaign map.

3- As for the helmet with precious stones instead of my gold borders, I am not convinced either. It is not even credible that a king goes to battle with a helmet set with jewelry.

If you allow me, I would use your crown texture well to rework crowns according to my own style.

    This isn't final, you know.
I made them to give you choices and the final choice is yours.
I take it you like the second type, right?
I can make a version without the jewels.
The face can be fixed very easily.

I can't find any evidence that there was actually a distinct sign of the helmet during that period as the face wasn't covered like it will become later.

Anyway, for the gameplay, I guess that a simple crown on top of "classical" helmet would do. Or, just add some golden part on it as suggested somehow by j.a.luna.
Just for inspiration (I don't think that's accurate), this one from a game named Mordhau:
