Hi all,
It's been a while since there has been official word on the state of the mod, but work is continuing on a 3.3 release.
Since Webba84 has ridden off to face the Witch-king in single combat, I have been left behind as steward, to hold rod and rule in the name of the Lead Developer, until he shall return. (In other mods of less royalty, it would take maybe a few months to make a steward a Lead, if the Lead return not. But, as Denethor did not say, in FATW ten thousand years would not suffice )
3.2 is the current, full, complete version of FATW: Dominion of Men. But Webba and I had plans to continue releasing small updates. In the main, these would add unique settlements to the battle-map. I believe the next one in the works was Bree.
Unfortunately, unless and until Webba returns, we will not be releasing any further additions to unique settlements. (That said, the current version of the mod is fortunate indeed to have several unique settlement plans, including unique layouts for Elven, Dwarven, and Dunedanic settlements, as well as for Minas Anor, Helm's Deep, and Minas Ithil - if you haven't seen these yet in-game, check them out!)
However, there are some things that Webba had implemented (at least in part) that I would like to see released. These include:
-Roughly a dozen new units, designed with an eye to making conquest of certain parts of the map more interesting
-A revamped Cultic levy system that replaces the no-frills levy spearmen and levy riders with local troops that vary with region
-New unit designs for Dwarven siege engines
-New unit availabilities for some factions (e.g., Mumakil for Far Harad)
-A slightly adjusted Dwarven campaign (taking place a few years prior to the overall start date for the mod) that puts Moria in the hands of Orcs
and some other balance tweaks and fixes.
I have been working on and testing this 3.3 build, and I think fans of the mod will appreciate the new and changed content.
Thanks to the help of Aexodus, we are getting closer to a release for 3.3. Some work remains to be done on unit info cards, so I would like to extend an invitation to anyone who has experience in this area (particularly anyone who has and is familiar with 3ds max!). If you can help, we would appreciate it!
Once the unit cards are finished, 3.3 will be released - and after that, I have one or two other projects in mind that you may find interesting...
Thanks to all of you who have downloaded and enjoyed the mod over the years, and special thanks to those of you who pop in to the forums here to give feedback, make suggestions, or just to say hi. Modding may be something you start for yourself, but before long it becomes a true community effort, and it has been a pleasure to be part of this one.
