    Default Are there Medieval 2 mods similar to EB2's slow combat speed and few casualties?

    I'd post this in the Medieval 2 mod rec thread but seeing as my last post there resulted with no answers. I'd place it here.

    One of the main things I've loved about Europa Barbarorum is the slow combat speed. Even a unit made of tissue paper and the morale of little kid will can last a few precious minutes against even the heavest infantry.
    The inverse is the same with Elite units, they are as powerful as their description says and it feels good to unleash their powers upon the enemy at the right moment.

    With the above in mind, it makes combat more interesting and it's rewarding to keep your units alive through good tactics amd strategy.

    Unfortunately, due to only playing EB2 for so long, the other mods with the same combat speed as original M2 feels too boring. The combat is too fast and units sustain heavy casualties too quickly. Even Stainless Steel feels boring due to the fast combat speed, not to mention heavy cavalry will tear off a large chunk of men from infantry or even elite spearmen from melee or from charging.

    Call of Warhammer felt really good. Maybe not the exactly the same, but still really good.

    While it fits the source material. It's exactly not fun to see even your elite units and your entire army suffer horrific casualties against Chaos/Orcs/Beastmen/Skaven/Etc.

    Warhammer is a cruel world. And don't forget the Vampire Counts!

    If you prefer faster or slower battle spacing, you can set factors in the first section of battle_config.xml in any mod you like. High numbers mean faster battles. I understand it as a multiplier for a chance for a succesfull hit (not necessary a damage to the unit, only if attack missed or not), I tried quite a couple values from 0.1 - 100 but the only change was how quickly units died, but it happened at the same ratio between units. Here are some examples of these factors:

                <elephants>0.39</elephants>
            </missile-target-accuracy>

            <melee-hit-rate>1.75</melee-hit-rate>
        </combat-balancing>

        </melee-hit-rate>
      </combat-balancing>

    EDIT I forgot to say that changes are compatible with saved games. You can change it back anytime you want.

    No there aren't any, EB2 is the only perfect mod

    On a serious note though, it makes no sense to judge the value of entire mods based on a few parameters. They represent in the realm of 0.01% of the total effort put into a mod. (if even that)

    I didn't say the other mods suck though. It's just that my preference for slow combat that negates my enjoy of these mods.

    I have to agree that EB2 combat is my preferred style, the slower pace allows for more strategic movement during the fights. I finally got my Medieval 2 working on my new setup and it’s a joy playing these mods. Medieval 2 was a masterpiece when released and the mods have made it unbelievable.

    Just beware that turning the hit rate down will impact unit cohesion (for the worse). For reasons know only to CA, the two are inexplicably linked.

    Can't the defense stats can be buffed (or attack stat reduced) to achieve the same effect? Or doing that also has its drawbacks?

    That won't change the "blobbing" you'll get with worse cohesion, and changing stats will have other knock-on effects which require their own considerations. Which might necessitate other changes, and so on. With a complex, interlinked system, there are rarely any consequence-free changes.

    You could change the number of men per units. (But you'll have to do it for every units of the game/mod)

    I did it in EB and I found it (almost) consequences free except for artillery, elephants and chariots.

    More men = more time.
