    Default Medieval 2,high performance settings!

Finally i have found the right amount of settings for this game to be playable at high- settings with HUGE-armies.

Well, heres how i did it.

    In graphic options:
Unit detail:low.. dont worry it still looks VERY GOOD.
    Vegetation,effects, and grass:High

    Video settings
    Shader:2
    AA:2
    Anisotropic:2
    Vsync:off
Unit detail:low, you see why later!!
    Building, effects, grass: High
    Texture Q: Medium
    Bloom and
    offcourse shadow quality:LOW, VERY IMPORTANT!!!

Now over to the ATI-tray tools where the secret lays!
In Ati-tray tools enable Adaptive AA, and in Anisotropic filtering enable High quality AF, i think its this one who does the units look.. VERY GOOD, at low -settings.

    And as a final tweak,
    go to medieval 2.preference.cfg.
You see the little numbers belove, change the anistropic level to 1.
    Antialias mode off.
    and vegetation:1

Oh!, the FPS is about 15-45 with 4500 little men running around...

May I inquire what are your system specs?

    Thats the beauty!
    an Athlon 64 3.2 Ghz
    2 gb memory and a 1950xp pro...
and it still works like a dream on 350w power supply besides the "speq"

    A few questions:
Where do you find the Ati tray tool? or whatever you call it.
In the video settings, is the vegetation detail on low? Also, is the reflection on?
How do you find out your power supply? I always wanted to know that.

I doubt it its made for x1950. and x1900 series...

If you have an Intel Core duo, you can probably maximize the other settings, but the answer would be no...

You have to look inside your computer to find your PSU wattage.

I tried it and didnt notice a difference. Other than my units look like colorless snowmen from a distance.

No offense to the OP but the sad part is you have 10 times the recommended system specs listed on the box and elsewhere and have to resort to extra messures to make this game perform idealy.

I guess everyone has just accepted that the game runs like crap on good systems.

Dont get me wrong though I LOVE M2TW. It just irkes me when I read how all these people have to constantly tweak and upgrade to make it playable as intended. when they allready exceded even the recommended system specs...

MY advice If you want perfect performance. By a $3000 gaming rig or get used to low settings with a 3 gig proc 2 gigs of ram and a top end video card..

    GImme a break.

I've got it running very nicely, with most things maxed, other than shadows (medium) and AA/AF (both x2).
OPEN BATTLEFIELD CAPTURE POINTS AND IMPACT PUFFS HAVE GOT TO GO!
REVERT INFANTRY THROWING PILAE TO ROME TW'S SYSTEM AS IT WAS PERFECT!

    Mobo: GA-P35-S3, CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66Ghz, GPU: AMD HD 6850 1GB, RAM: 4.Gb Corsair DDR2, Sound: Audigy 4, O/S: Windows 7 64bit Home Premium

I agree. The more bucks you spend on upgrades, the more frames you lose with M2TW (and RomeTW too, it shows less, though). It's like a law of nature. It sometimes makes me angry and even willing to buy myself a second handed P4 system just for Total War games...

I guess no-one over there at CA has ever heard of dual cores. When Empire comes out, I'll just wait a few weeks, scanning the forums, and if it's the same story, I'll skip it.

Also the 8800 graphical issues (wether it's CA's or nVidia's fault) are unheard of, if you ask me. Fortunately, I still use 2 7800GT's, and I'll stick to that.

This is not a CA rant, I love the Total War series, but they really should improve performance.

A dual-core patch would be so good for the performance of Total War games. I really hope they think about this both for M2 and Empires.
