Game crashing on campaign launch (Steam version)

So everytime I go to launch the campaign for puntus, I get into the menu and once the campaign screen loads up into the game it crashes on 3/4 of laoding. I installed the game into the steam directory (Programfilesx86/Steam/Steamapps/Common/ROme Total war gold. I guess it could be an issue there. I'm running RS2.6 and I have recently played the game as of 2 years ago on the same laptop. I used to run the game off a disk however recent DRM updates for rome meant that windows wouldn't run the disk version since it was too old as saw it as malware or something. If anyone has any help it would be much appreciated as I bought the game on steam just to play RS2.
