    Default Hardrive recommendations

I need some hard drive recommendations using the following

    1. $150 or less canadian

thats it lol. I've got an older 80gb maxtor thats on its way out. and I'm just looking for something to replace it. I don't need a 250gb hardrive, but I'd like it to be at least 80.

    sata or ide ?
hitachi are the fastest for booting / file transfer from what ive noticed in some benchmarks, otherwise they're all quite equals, seagate havin a reputation on being much more durable...

Depends on your mobo. As Maical said, you'll have to tell us if you have SATA capabilities before we can recommend anything.

You can get a 320GB harddrive with about $114 + GST.

If you think 250GB is too large, then you can get the 160GB for about 70 bucks.

    A 80 gb hard drive will cost you about Ca$ 55, a 250 gb about Ca$ 95 and a 320 gb about Ca$ 110.

From a cost/gb point of view the 250 to 320 gb range is the sweet spot now. So if you can spare the extra Ca$ 40 -50, I would recommend the bigger drive. I find that I can always use the hard drive space.

But check your motherboard supports such a large drive. I recently replaced a failing 40 gb unit on my tertiary PC (Pentium 3/700) with a 200 gb drive I picked up on Boxing Day for $70 and had no problems installing it. The Pentium 3 has Win XP pro as the operating system.

Check your local B&M stores first, they usually have better pricing + easier to return. Unless of course, you're near NCIX's warehouse.

I find HD at NCIX a bit more expensive than some of the local stores here, and you gotta factor in shipping. But they have a large selection.
