    Default {DIK} Where to go with TIW-Ultimate

    Hello everyone,

    yes, it has been quite a while since my last encounter with TWC and my project The Italian Wars - Ultimate.
    Sadly, I have not been able to carry on with the mod as planed and so there was no progress at all over the last year/months.

    Since lately, I was bombarded with messages asking if the project will be continued/finished etc. ... well...
    I won't announce any comeback, simply because my time is still very limited.
    Nevertheless, I'll have a look a the mod and check what tasks are still pending and what ideas may be expandable.
    This 'review' done, I'll consider either continuing on TIW or releasing it in its current state to the public,
    so that maybe someone else carry on or not

    In any case, thank you all for your true commitment, I was very moved!

    We keep our fingers crossed for your right decision.
    I'd guess that if you're gone, there'll be nobody able and willing to take it up. So continuation would be rather better
    There're many people willing to play the mod and we'd be happy if you make it - even without all the fancy features.

    Well, you are probably right about that.
    I guess, I'll start several polls on which topics to include, so you guys get more relevant content.

    Aneirin if you really lack time and motivation I might suggest that you focus on pike combat overhaul and making arquebuses available from the start and ditch the crossbows or make them less effective. I personally voted for all the topics in the poll and would like all the novelties to be implemented. Can you implement new combat system from battle beta to some new patch. For starters that will make this mod even better than it already is, and it is really great. After that you can concentrate on all the points you posted in poll, one by one. What do you say about this suggestion of mine?

    I think that leaving out crossbows would be massively unhistorical, but I agree that they are a too strong compared to arquebuses/gunners that seem strangely ineffective. I think pike combat is ok though.

    I am mainly looking forward to Ultimate because of the new map and the new factions. The only real criticism I have is that the location of Forli is completely wrong, but I suspect that has game-play reasons...

    I agree that leaving out crossbows is historically inaccurate but during the renaissance in Europe the arquebus pushed all other missile weapons aside and was easier to use - easier than crossbow and way way easier than bow. Also arquebuses should be available from the beginning of the game since in 1494. they were already there.

    Pike combat is not so good since when two pike units collide they annihilate each other in seconds. Not to mention inability of rodoleros, or any other sword units, to mingle with pikes in a way of early 16th century Spanish tactic. No matter how armored the sword units are they are annihilated by pikes without striking a blow.

    Even the Swiss had in their pike column a center of selected close combat specialists armed with halberds, Luzern hammers and two handed swords who did go into the fray once opposing pikes were intermingled and stuck. In 4.1 and 5.0 same as swords the halberds are weak. In battle beta balancing of units was done perfectly.

    I agree with Antonius here, leaving them out would be unhistorical. As for Forli, you have guessed right, we used the city as a kind of key hold entering the Romagna over the Apeninnes.

    As for your worries Gustav, we will use the battle beta balancing with some adjustment, which we see fit due our and your testing
