Graphics Card Question

Our computer technician guy had us order the Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 to run M2TW, after when I try to run it with our original graphics card, it said "requires a pixel shader of 1.1 or more". Is this card compatible?

Umm, your statements as to what card your actually using seems to be a contradictory. Are you trying to run it with your original graphics card, or the FX 5200 he ordered? If its your "original" grphics card your trying, what make of card is it?

Also note, a FX 5200 is going to be considered pretty low end by todays standards (and probably by this game's standards as well). I put one in my son's machine when they first came out (probably well over a year ago) thinking it had to be better than the GF 4200 TI card I had in there, but quickly removed it and reinstalled the GF 4200 TI after the first benchmark tests.

If your PC can handle it, you may want to cancel that order/return the FX 5200 and go with at least a FX 6800 series card. I'm currently using a FX 7800GS, and things are running very smoothly.

You also have to tak into consideration that he probobly has a PCI port or a low end computer or a computer tech wouldn't have told him to buy such a low end card.

Well I think he probably has an 8x AGP port, in which case he still has some nice options (7800/7900 GS) that are fairly cheap ~$250. But yes, that FX 5200 is barely able to meet the specifications.

We're using the new card, it already arrived, and we're installing it on a windows XP.

I originally had an FX 5700 and it could barely run M2TW. Does your pc have an AGP port? If so, you should go for something way better, like the later 6 series or even the 7 series which are all very cheap.

You're not going to get much of an experience out of that FX 5200. Your computer technician guy isn't very knowledgeable it seems when it comes to games and the hardware that they require.

FX 5200 and M2TW do not belong in the same sentence. Unless it's "FX5200 will not run M2TW well.."

Get a X850XT PE 256, it's an AGP card and runs M2TW with everything maxed out, AF 16x, and AA 4x @ 40+fps with 20 stack armies in a siege of a huge city or citadel (which is about the most demanding M2TW can get)

It's the card I'm using atm... and almost as good as my X1900XTX in that you won't notice much of a difference unless you have an fps counter going.

Oh, forgot to mention you could probably get one for around $200 nowadays if you shop around. I don't usually know the price of video cards because I get them for free from work to test out.

I believe he has PCI seeing as the guy recommanded it, He might have limited options, Since he does have PCI and the card already ,the deal and damage is done.

Personally i would look for X1300 PCI at bestbuy or online stars and exchange that FX5200.

Nvidia Geforce FX 5200, common? For MTW 2 I run 8800GTS @ 630/2000MHz and I still dip into 20+FPS with over 3000 men. I can't imagine running it on the FX 5200.

Erm, I dont know if such thing exists, I think its either the 6800GT or the 6800 Ultra. And even they are outdated nowadays. Did you really get an FX5200 to play M2TW, or was that the card you first had? I had that same card when the demo first came out, it couldnt even run the game at a playable FPS with everything on low. I say get at least an X1950XT or 7950GT, but preferably the X1950XT.
