    Default General's bodyguard upkeep

I was losing money like crazy in my current campaign, due to army upkeep, and now I found the problem. I had two cities that were filled with generals in training, one for the new arrivals, and one for those who were ready to be sent out. And I discovered that each general has an upkeep of around 1000 dn. per turn for his bodyguards. So out of the 45000 dn. I was losing per turn, 40000 of it was my generals! For now Im going to mod this down so its not as much, and also not have so many generals. But what am I going to do when my family tree gets huge?

you shouldn't adopt every guy who wants to marry one of your daughters, cousins,... only adopt guys who have a 3-4 loyalty and preferably with some stars or gouvernment skills. when i started playing rtw i had the same problem: i adopted anyone who came forward.

this only results in expensive wages, corruption in your cities and generals that had nothing good at all and were a waste of time, space and money.

so only adopt generals/governors with at least 3-4 loyalty and 3 stars/influence/management.
i one of your family members comes to age and hasn't good skills, send him to the city with the best academy and let him be for a few turns, his skills will improve and he'll be usefull.

don't recruit generals, unless it's absolutely necessary: they are very expensive.

at last, if you have family members that are no use at all, you put them together and send them to the front. let them attack the enemy (just do a frontal attack), they all will die fighting on the field with honour (try to take as many enemies with you)

every once and awhile, move your governors to another city, this will reduce corruption, cause if you have a governor too long in the same city, corruption will set in.

LT's house rules for 6.2 stated that legions should only be commanded by Generals so that we can enjoy the loyalty features... We should recruit one general per legion and only use generals as governors when our empire expands beyond our family tree number or when their loyalty drops to a diring level... loyalty rings will slowly increase when they govern cities and even more if loyal family members r present...

this will make more sense the deeper u r in a campaign and the spawn rate for mature family members doesn't match the size of the empire... 50+ provinces, hope it helps ;-)

Ok. I was under the impression that you should have every city managed by a governor, and to have a lot of guys in training too.

Oh I finally realised the difference between generals and normal family members. The family members have very low upkeep while the generals have high upkeep. And the rules say only generals, not normal family members can lead legions then right?

It stinks that I can't raise the upkeep and abandon a member from my family tree though, cause I have some that are really good generals but I have to leave them governing cities..

Take them out commanding auxilia legions or side them with the commanding general of an imperial/republican legion... that's not against the rules

I normally fill in and command my auxilia legions with 2/3 family members so that they can take governor duties from the newly conquered provinces, freeing up the main forces

Thats a good idea. I am pre-marius in my current campaign until 6.3 comes out but I will start doing that when I start getting auxiliary legions.

But most generals become really good after you win some battles with them, it doesnt take much.
