Icon9 Bizarre Epeiros revival, "Revolt in Epidamnos" glitch

A "revolt in Epidamnos", you say? Lol. There is no Epidamnos anymore (replaced by Dyrrachion).

Immediately I knew something was wrong when I read that message. Lo and behold this is what happened after I beat Epeiros as Makedonia fair and square, with Pyrrhos dying in a siege of Korinthos in 270 BC (a bit later than he did historically, and of course not at Argos). Even though I hold their former capital Ambrakia with decent public order, the game has decided in its infinite wisdom to give Epeiros a faction revival event. The only problem is that the rebels of Epeiros have revolted in the streets of Alexandria Arachosia...in the Kandahar region of Afghanistan on the far eastern side of the campaign map. In addition to that, an Epeirote army has randomly spawned in Illyria Hellenike, right outside Dyrrachion (where Epidamnos used to be located in previous versions of EBII).

WTF? Is this actually scripted? Or is this just a retarded bug? I'm assuming it's the latter, but I'm shocked and awed that no one has brought this up yet. Here's proof:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Now there is a big Epeirote army marching through my territory in Makedonia proper. I think they are attempting to walk all the way to Afghanistan, but I'm fearful that they are about to lay siege to Pella. This is insane. Could you guys, I don't know...fix this? As funny as it is, it's both immersion-breaking and completely unfair. You can't expect me to waste off my troops destroying Epeiros by 269 BC and then suddenly I have to worry about destroying a faction all the way in Afghanistan just to win the campaign later on (one of the victory conditions, of course). That's completely unreasonable.

That's exactly how I was able to find them. If I didn't turn off fog of war via the console command, there's no way I would have found them otherwise (maybe 100 turns later with a diplomat, but there's no guarantee of that).

In either case, I was able to destroy the Epeirote army marching around Pella and this destroyed their faction, since they only had one family member, their faction leader: Basileus Ischrus. Their territory in the middle of Afghanistan has now rightfully returned to the rebels/Eleutheroi.

I just wanted to confirm that you guys knew this was happening. If it's the price we have to pay for faction reemergence (a very cool feature otherwise) then I guess it's okay.

Pyrrhus would be very confused. Then again, Makedonian culture had penetrated the region thoroughly by this point, and to this day the Afghans still wear Makedonian-inspired hats.

No, he would be impressed with Epirotes, reaching that far east, faster than the Macedonians under Alexandr did... Also, I know about the hats, my avatar has one.

It's a bug in the faction re-emergence script which we can't do anything about. With second and subsequent re-emerges and sieges going on in the intended targets, sometimes the re-emerge "bounces" somewhere else. Nothing we can do about it, all attempts to fix it have failed (they simply cause re-emergence to stop working altogether). We've known about this for a while, it's the price to pay for having re-emergence at all.

This...is similiar to what happened to me before, although not exactly the same. Basically, I've ended up eliminating Epirus by killing their last FM while they still had a city, so it turned rebel. However, two turns later, they respawned, most likely because of the low public order in the rebel city. But the city remained rebel, so they ended up basically like a horde. There might be a need for a different script regarding faction reemergence out of Eleutheroi cities, if that's possible.

They'll have respawned somewhere on the map - I'd suggest turning the fog of war off and finding them.

By the way, what are you doing with this campaign? Will you try to emulate Alexander? I decided not to bother with it personally for my first time as Makedon, but destroying everyone you have to destroy seems to be pretty viable before Alkyoneus dies of old age. Possibly even if you don't blitz every city and give AI a few turns during every siege to gather enough forces to combat you.

This is rather off-topic, but I will give you a brief answer in that I intend to focus on consolidating the whole of the Mediterranean (much like the Roman Republic did) rather than venturing deep into Asia in emulation of Alexander. It will be a slight recreation of the Roman Empire, perhaps with the bonus of taking and holding all of Britannia and Germania (something the Romans failed to do in full).

I had a faction re-emerge in Alexandreia Arachosia too. I wonder if there's something special about that city.

    Was it also with Epeiros?

Perhaps settlement faction creator, I think that's how it's called in game map files. Perhaps Arachosia has a western greek culture as a creator.

I don't think that's related. I've also seen a bizarre revival location, I got the Lusitainae in Syracuse, and they don't have Western Greek as their culture.

I'm currently playing as Makedonia and it happened to me aswell. Scared the life out of me when a full stack just popped out from out of nowhere while I was dealing with the remnants of Koinon Hellenon!
