Default OCZ Platinum VS Corsair Dominator

    OCZ Platinum 800Mhz 4-4-4-15 £166

    OR

    Corsair XMS2 Dominator 800Mhz 4-4-4-12 £195

Which ram would you guys go for considering the whole system is being overclocked - and the price difference

The Corsair Dominator series is the best DDR2 memory on the market right now. Taking the price difference into consideration, they're about even. If the skys the limit, get the Corsair XMS2, if money's getting tight, get the OCZ, they're both excellent companys with great products and support, and they both offer lifetime warranties on their memory EVEN if you OC it!

The 30 pound diffrence ($60 USD????) doesn't warrant it. Plus, I thought you weren't going to overclock? These types of RAM are really for Overclocking really. The gains are so miniscule if just compared at stock (like 1%). Plus even if you overclock, the Corsair one might just be able to push 15FSB more than the OCZ and that's a big if. So, just get the cheaper OCZ.

I see. Still, unless you have some unexplainable/illogical sensational want to burn money, just stick with the OCZ you listed. The price difference (Almost $60 USD?!) just doesn't warrant the extra 15FSB or maybe +1 timing. RAM Latency doesn't affect DDR2 performance that greatly anyways as compared to DDR generations.

Both of those dimms listed are Cas latency (CL) 4, the 12 and 15 represent (TRAS) or active to precharge delay, and that doesn't effect the memory's timing much.
The real question is, how far can those dimms be OC in comparison to each other, and still keep 1/1 timing with the processor. I bet they're pretty close to each other, and I also bet the "perceivable" performance difference is minimal, if perceivable at all. The Corsair is probobly going to require less voltage while OCed, but OCZ is pretty good about having a sweet spot that's not necessarily driven by maximum voltage. I personally would chose OCZ because, Oh my God, am I really saying this?...."They have a better price to performance ratio."......There, I said it.....

Udawg, you can't imagine how hard that was to type. An even bigger shock for me, was when I realized that's why I was suggesting the OCZ! Next thing you know, Shaun will be advocating buying a budget video card. Lol

The only think I will say is that Corsair ramsinks are the only ramsinks on the market that actually make a difference to the cooling of the Ram modules. SO if it's out right performance he wants he should get the Dominator and stick a 40mm fan on them for added cooling.

Since your running a Core 2 Duo I wouldn't worry about he ram's latency levels, as Hadrian said it's how far can those dimms be overclocked.
