    Default Dismounted Praetorian Cavalry Battle CTD

    Ok, I've made this Dismounted Praetorian Cavalry unit by copying the Praetorian Cavalry unit text from descr_model_battle and export_descr_unit and changed the stats, changed the skeleton, took away the horse etc.

    Now, The unit works (and it looks great btw ) but a few seconds after it's charged into the enemy, the game CTD's I have no idea how to fix this and I'm hoping someone here does. Any help?

    Can I see DMB/EDU files for them please? Then I might be able to help.

    They probably still have entries for both primary and secondary weapons, foot units should only have one weapon (except missile and phalanx units).

    Actually, come to think of it, I had a similar problem when I left my brettonian grail knights (sword-armed heavy cav) with a lance-type attack. So it's probably that then.

    I think your problem is that you have both spear and sword attacks, but only a spear skeleton.

    To keep both attacks, change this;
    skeleton fs_spearman

    to this;

    skeleton fs_spearman, skeleton fs_swordsman

    OR

    Just edit out the sword attack.
    Change this;
    stat_sec 9, 4, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, sword, 25 ,1
    stat_sec_attr no
    To this;
    stat_sec 0, 0, no, 0, 0, no, no, no, none, 25 ,1

    If that doesn't work post back here with the updated code and I'll have another look.

    Well, I tried the former, so they could have swords when things got tight, but when they charged, they used their swords, like charging phalanx troops, instead of their spears. It CTD'ed then.

    I'll try the latter and see if it works.

    It worked. ^_^ Thanks a bunch. This is great, i can get on with other aspects of the unit now.

    Yep. Just doing the unit description now. Then going to implement where they are trained and then I'm going to read that tutorial on how to make unit cards. Do you know where it is?

    Also, I find that the Praetorians run far too fast for a heavily armoured infantry unit, this my be unchangeable, but is there a way to slow them down?

    Edit 2: Does the code for the DMB and EDU change significantly in 1.5? I've just had to do a reinstall and am on 1.0.

    The unit card tutorial is in the Tools, Tutorials and Resources Subforum.

    I've never tried modding in 1.5, so I'm afraid I don't know about any file changes.

    I'm sure there is a way to slow them down, but I don't know how myself. Someone more experienced will probably know.
