Not all of the barbarians living beyond Rome's borders wish to cross only to raid and pillage: some were genuinely interested in taking up the Roman way of life, with all the luxuries it provided, and to become part of something greater than their local tribe. Merobod, a younger son of a chieftain of the Frankish tribe of Chamavi, was one such man. Making his way across the Rhine as part of his tribe's delegation to the local Roman governor in the middle of the 4th century, he wound up enlisting in the Roman army's Germaniciani Iuniores comital legion together with his sons and died a Roman citizen (ironically in a skirmish against his own tribe on the Rhenish frontier), having distinguished himself in battle many times and amassed a small fortune from both his frugally-maintained salary and the spoils of war he'd earned. Now it falls to those sons, Richomeres and Bauto, to further enmesh his lineage of Romanized barbarians into the Roman governing and military apparatus, until they are fully accepted by their Roman-born peers as equals.
The Flavii Camavi, as this family of Romanized Franks calls itself, are followers of the pagan gods, not necessarily because they believe in those gods with all their heart but simply because they seemed like the fastest way to power under Julian the Apostate. Joke's on the Flavii Camavi, though: Julian is now quite dead, and his successor Jovian's pro-Christian reforms has embarrassed them. Merobaudes himself was a follower of Sol Invictus in life, as is his oldest son Richomeres, but his younger son Bauto has opted for induction into the brotherhood of Mithras instead.

Ethnicity: Romano-Germanic (specifically Romano-Frank)
Religion: Sol Invictus (+1 to Battles)
Rank: TBA
Marital Status: Married to Honoria (35)
Traits (6 points):
+3 Battles
+2 Personal Combat
+1 Charisma
Temperaments:
Choleric:
- Bloodthirsty: This character is hotheaded and loves to jump into fights, lethal or otherwise. This is not something others find endearing off the battlefield, though. +1 Battles, -1 Charisma.
- Impulsive: This character acts before (sometimes, without) thinking. They might move and decide more quickly than others, but their recklessness can lead them to disaster as well. +5% movement speed, -1 to detection rolls.
Sanguine:
- Confident: This character is very self-assured, brimming with confidence and difficult to shake even under pressure. However, taken to an extreme, they can show a suicidal disregard for their life and the lives of others, and fail to take...well, failure into account when planning. +1 battle rolls, +1 to rout rolls against this character. |
| Flavius Bauto Camavus |
Age: 30 (b. 334 AD)
Ethnicity: Romano-Germanic (specifically Romano-Frank)
Religion: Mithraism (+1 to Personal Combat)
Rank: TBA
Marital Status: Married to Aelia (27)
Traits (6 points):
+2 Battles
+3 Personal Combat
+1 Survival
Temperaments:
Phlegmatic:
- Austere: This character disdains pomp and pageantry, instead preferring a plain & simple (the uncharitable might say 'rigidly spartan') lifestyle. +5% income, -1 Charisma.
- Reserved: This character is a stoic who generally keeps to him/herself and exercises strict control over their emotions. While this means they're not likely to make reckless moves in court or on the battlefield, they can come across as unfeeling robots to others. +1 battle rolls, -1 Charisma.
Choleric:
- Ill-Tempered: This character is ornery and seems to explode at the slightest provocation. While they've gotten into enough fights to toughen them up, a person who's as easily baited as a bull that sees red won't make a good commander. +1 Duels, -1 Battles. |
