Hmmm...you know, I recently bought the same card and have wanted to try oblivion out on my pc. It sucks there's no demo for it.

    Is VSync on?
And how much RAM do you have? Oblivion is such a memory hog.

    Haha, I'm noticing the same. I upgraded from a 7800GT > 7900GT > X1900XT > 8800GTS in a year, and I'm still getting the same framerate that I did with the 7800GT in Oblivion.

Probably CPU bottlenecking then, Oblivion is a pretty CPU intensive game.

Nope, I was actually getting way better performance out of my 7800GT SLI set up back then. I went down to one 7800GT to pay for car repairs. I've been single card ever since.

Gonna have to rule out CPU bottleneck.

It is. I had an AMD 2800+ underclocked @ 1.25 ghz after some overclocking abuse after a while. hehe. And the game ran. sloooooooooooooooooooow.

After getting an Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 with my radeon x850 and compliant motherboard etc etc I got a 30 fps OUTSIDE (yes outside) at the game's "Ultra High" settings (self shadows off, they look like ****) and a stable 25-30 fps frame rate. I love my new c2d. Makes me feel all fuzzy inside.

It really runs better with Ati, so no wonder you can't see a big difference. I used to have a Ati X800XL, and when I changed to 7600GT (same power as 7800GS), I lost like 10 fps... I don't play Oblivion that much anymore, so I don't mind.
But nothing wrong with your pc I quess, it's just the geforce.

That sounds about right. The X800XL was comparable to 6800GT in the day. I loved my X800XL, too bad it was a terrible OC'er, but overall great value (got it for $250 when they were going for $300!). Now the 7600GT is also similar to a 6800GT, so I'd expect about the same performance, and some performance degradation in Oblivion. But 10fps hit all the way around sounds like a huge difference.

Do you have HDR enabled now? That would explain it..

Yes, I have HDR enabled, and I had to turn textures down a bit for that. But whatever the settings, geforce performs slower. In other games it's 10-20% faster than X800XL, but well.. It's Oblivion.

    I've seen tests where x800-series beats 7800-series and even 7900-series. That's nasty

same 2core2o as poweradepaladin. Coupled with my 7950gx2 and 2gb supertalent memory, it makes oblivion fly on ultra settings.
