What are the chances that a woman will be considered capable of being President in the Land of the Free?

I'd say americans have been ready for a female president for a while now, the right woman just hasnt come along. People speak of hillary and condoleeza but mehh....its just a testament to the possability of there being a female leader, SOMEDAY, its not really an indication that either of them actually have a good chance.
As for black leader, that I dont know if we're ready for....some parts of the country might be ready.... new york, california, illinois...the good parts y'know? but the whitebread states are very likely to oppose something like that still. Racism can no longer be out in the open but in that voting booth I still think itll be a big issue in peoples minds.
edit: and imo, if hillary and condoleeza have so little chance then nacy pelosi has even less.
Come on, In thins Nation, we are as modern as any other nation. However, if there was to be a female president, the American people would have to want it, so far it is no tht e will of the people that a woman be president. Heince we haven't had a female. It probably will never happen. Because Americans have deeply rooted feelings that a man should and can best reflect our national image.
Plus, virtualy (not al, just about 97%) of all femaile politicians are liberals, only half the US argees with them. Thus doesn't hepl the women's prospects much.

There's nothing 20th century about women being in charge. We Britons had Boudicca carving her murderous path in 1st century. And why should women be in charge? Is there any evidence they'd be any more reasonable than men? Look at Thatcher - crazy-eyed slavering *****. You're better off without women Presidents. Hillary's the type to decide she saw no reason why she should lay down her powers once she got them. You can see the madness, the lust in her eyes.

All I see in Hillarys eyes is nuetrality and spinelessness. Its like that Nuetral planet in Futurama, thats where Hillary Clinton is from. all hail her nuetral-ness! Hillary, how do you feel on this momentous occasion?
Hillary: I have no strong opinions one way or the other.
Thatcher was a loony.
Anyways, nothing modern about having women as leaders. And for America at least, it isn't that Americans are unwilling to elect women (I mean half our population is penisless after all), it is just that there is few trully good women in politics. There are more good women in porn than politics. A lot more.

In some ways i think it is kind of true..... Even if there was a good Woman candidate to come along if i were to vote int eh american election i would likely not vote for her, quite simply most are liberals but even more would not properly show the nation in many peoples eyes.
I do not think many countrys would be very fearful of a Woman telling them war has been declared on them
Not sure of your thread title and its meaning...France still hasnt had a female leader and Germany just elected their first not too long ago so not sure what you mean by 20th century (especially when off by a century!) if it means electing a female leader since like it or not the world is still dominated by male power figures. Anyway, yeah a woman absolutely can be President, it just cant be the two that get the most press Hiliary and Condi because both are polarizing figures.
France, I believe, has had a woman Prime Minister. I concede that this is not the same as the President.
As to the purpose of the thread, well I was wondering what is the position of women in American politics. Judging from Mudd's post, not much as they are clearly still regarded as sex objects, even if tongue in cheek.
As to Thatcher, I think she was a product of her times and a necessary evil but I do not want to dwell on her too much. If anyone does not think an elected female leader is tough, well you have Margaret Thatcher, Indira Gandhi and Golda Meier who have all proved to be quite formidable. I also remember that Sri Lanka had a female HoS recently, she was also quite formidable.
dont forget madeline albright, shes got balls.
Actually, I was hoping that Pelosi would get beaten in an upset by Some Other Guy; the look on her face if that had happened would have made my year.
I wonder if almost all female politicians are liberal because conservative/Republican woman think it is a mans job. Who knows...
We won't know what a female U.S. president will result in until we elect one. Who knows, maybe the results will be overwhelmingly positive, maybe it will be disastrous, or maybe there won't be any difference at all.
Keep in mind that Nanci Pelosi is in quite a powerful position. She is second in line, after the vice president, to become President.
We also have the first Muslim in Congress.
Frank's gay lover also ran a gay prostitition ring out of Frank's house. Frank claims he did not know of this but nevertheless as a member of congress he managed to fix dozens of parking tickets for his boyfriend's clients.
Well there was another but the dems chased him out. Apparently being a gay republican is worse than being a democratic Klansman.:hmmm:Originally Posted by tBP

As a teenager, I was taken to various houses and flats above takeaways in the north of England, to be beaten, tortured and raped over 100 times. I was called a “white slag” and “white ****” as they beat me.

woop dee doo, dont care. prostitution should be legalized and politicians sex lives should be kept private, unless theyre breaking the law. (a good law though, not something stupid like prostitution).
As George Carlin said..."F'ing is legal....Selling is legal....WHY THE F IS SELLING F'ing ILLEGAL?!"
I dunno if its worse than being a klansmen but its definetly a no no. I think the only reason being a gay republican is a no no is because recently, republicans have taken it upon themselves to systematically turn gay people into second class citizens. A gay republican is waaaay too much hypocrisy, even for me. and me and hypocrisy are like THIS sonOriginally Posted by big war bird
