    Default New Legions

With the addition of Ferres/Godzilla's Legions, which Tone is even now editing to include in Release One, a greater 'depth' is added in that it provides additional climate\culture specific legionary models which will be used for some of the Legions. They will fight a little differently, and have some different stats, but it will definitely increase the 'real' feeling in-game. Below is an explanation of the new models from the Modding Legions thread:

    1.) Gallic Legionary Cohort

    - they can hide themselves in the woods better than normal legionaries due to their origin and their darker armor

    - they are thougher than normal legionaries --> they have slightly more defensive-skill (not armor or shield, just the skill)

    - they're not able to form the testudo [reason: The soldiers are mostly of gallic origin and it's just not as efficient in deep woods]

    - a little less moral and less disciplined [reason: Far away from home + not all roman]

    - a little bit more expensive [reason: they're trained far away from Rome]

    2.) Eastern Legionary Cohort

    - they suffer less in desert areas because of their training under hot conditions (stat_heath: -1)

    - they wear scale-mail which is not as heavy as segmented armor --> because of this and their training in the heat they can run faster than normal legionaries

    - their armor rating is not as high as the one of normal legionaries [reason: Scale-mail is not as effective as lorica segmentata]

    - they were not trained to hide themselves in the woods [reason: ...because there are few woods in Africa]

    - they're not able to form the testudo [reason: Imagine: You're in the desert. Would you like to sit in a hut made of sheet metal?]

    - a little bit more expensive [reason: they're trained far away from rome]

    3.) Assaulter Legionary Cohort

    - they have a special arm-protection made of segmented armor, so they're better armoured and can therefore survive better when fighting against enemies with armor-piercing weapons --> armor: 16 (originally this piece of armor was made to protect the weapon-arm against the thracian scythe-like swords that were able to easily cut-off arms and legs! They were later used against similiar Parthian weapons.)

    - because of the segmented armor they're not able to throw a pila [reason: seriously....think about it, it would be really hard to throw a pila with full power when your arm is covered in metal]

    - a little bit more expensive [reason: Special legionaries with special training, and trained far away from Rome]

For those of you who may be unaware, Roma Surrectum will include 35 totally distinct Roman Legions, each with its own skin, banner, officers and Legionary Eagle. The banners and shields will all be different...so every one of them will be unique.

Here are some screenshots of the new legions:

Augustinian legions here (in fact since the Augustinian legion screenshots we've changed to using Ferres' models which are slightly more detailed and accurate):

Imperial legions below - these are still undergoing some last minute changes:

Just to say that because we've just changed from Riczu's to Ferres' skins, I ended up plugging the skins into the Ferres units in the BBW mod, so some of the imperial units skies are from there. Those particular skies obviously won't be in Roma Surrectum. However, we have done a real skies mod for Roma Surrectum - see the Augustinian units above them for examples and we're using Prometheus' grass mod.

So we'll keep the Riczu Early ones you did, and then switch to the Ferres models for the Imperials? I'm going to start adding the other Romans and getting DMB ready for this...just wanted to know.
As far as Unit Cards, I'm just going to use the four Roman factions cards and switch them off so that legions showing up in one Region will have a different card. Maybe later redo them, but one could go wild trying to make matching unit cards for all these!!

    DVK,
No, I've changed the early ones to Ferres as well.
It'll be good to have matching cards as soon as we can manage it

This is going to be great!
Are you going to have a unit spread sheet also?
That we can see what units are going to be in a faction?

Also some of the Historical monuments battlescreens are pretty cool ,if you are thinking of doing them they are on the EB Modd.

Could you have the three type of spartans hemits?
They also are seen in Barebones modds.

This will as i see so far will be the best modd.

    thanks

I'm going to put Ferres Romans in the mod, including of course these gorgeous Legions...fix the Unit Cards....put patch4 in the Installer I have been building, test it, and then upload. I was going to work more on the standards because Tone asked me to try and make them a little less 'brilliant', but I think once he has the mod, maybe he can do that better than I can. So I'm not going to bother with that now. Everything else is ready...including new strat interfaces for Romans, Greeks, Egyptians and Barbarians. If I have time, I'll finish the Eastern one....but I want to release this ASAP.

Great work Tone, really i love you're shield pattern, really good!
Well just a word to say that i see an error .
You're augustean legion are wrong. You put a mail skin on a segmental 3D armor pauldron (imperial unit), this is really ugly.
Look at ferres 3D model for this period.

The Augustinians in the pictures aren't the ones being used, Ultor my friend. Nice to hear from you. I think I know what you mean though....the shoulder parts sticking up in the air like they were segmented metal? Anyway, the Ferres model is the one we'll use, and it's totally different from those.

Got all the Romans and Legions in last night....after 8 hours!
