With the addition of Ferres/Godzilla's Legions, which Tone is even now editing to include in Release One, a greater 'depth' is added in that it provides additional climate\culture specific legionary models which will be used for some of the Legions. They will fight a little differently, and have some different stats, but it will definitely increase the 'real' feeling in-game. Below is an explanation of the new models from the Modding Legions thread:
1.) Gallic Legionary Cohort
- they can hide themselves in the woods better than normal legionaries due to their origin and their darker armor
- they are thougher than normal legionaries --> they have slightly more defensive-skill (not armor or shield, just the skill)
- they're not able to form the testudo [reason: The soldiers are mostly of gallic origin and it's just not as efficient in deep woods]
- a little less moral and less disciplined [reason: Far away from home + not all roman]
- a little bit more expensive [reason: they're trained far away from Rome]
2.) Eastern Legionary Cohort
- they suffer less in desert areas because of their training under hot conditions (stat_heath: -1)
- they wear scale-mail which is not as heavy as segmented armor --> because of this and their training in the heat they can run faster than normal legionaries
- their armor rating is not as high as the one of normal legionaries [reason: Scale-mail is not as effective as lorica segmentata]
- they were not trained to hide themselves in the woods [reason: ...because there are few woods in Africa]
- they're not able to form the testudo [reason: Imagine: You're in the desert. Would you like to sit in a hut made of sheet metal?]
- a little bit more expensive [reason: they're trained far away from rome]
3.) Assaulter Legionary Cohort
- they have a special arm-protection made of segmented armor, so they're better armoured and can therefore survive better when fighting against enemies with armor-piercing weapons --> armor: 16 (originally this piece of armor was made to protect the weapon-arm against the thracian scythe-like swords that were able to easily cut-off arms and legs! They were later used against similiar Parthian weapons.)
- because of the segmented armor they're not able to throw a pila [reason: seriously....think about it, it would be really hard to throw a pila with full power when your arm is covered in metal]
- a little bit more expensive [reason: Special legionaries with special training, and trained far away from Rome]
For those of you who may be unaware, Roma Surrectum will include 35 totally distinct Roman Legions, each with its own skin, banner, officers and Legionary Eagle. The banners and shields will all be different...so every one of them will be unique.
