Historically, not until 1639 The Tokugawa Shogunate finally asked The Dutch traders to demonstrate their mortars. The Demonstration is an interesting footnote in history.
Eleven Shots were fired in the demonstration; with a hut as the target, 'sincerely' lent by a peasant. The first shot fell too short, bursting muds from the ricefield high into the air, accompanied with amazement. The second exploded in the barrel, burning the Dutch crew's faces. Undaunted, The Dutch continued: most fell to the fields, the rest exploded in midair; none met its intended target target. The Japanese requested the twelfth shot to set directly in the hut to save the Dutch faces, both figuratively and literally. At last, the hut finally exploded with satisfaction from the audience...except the owner of hut...i presume...

During The Siege of Osaka 1614-1615, Tokugawa Ieyasu deployed Several European Cannons, some of them are confirmed as Culverins from English and Dutch sources...These Cannons are pivotal in the devepment of the siege; The famous instance is when two cannonballs struck The Room of Toyotomi Hideyori's own Mother, Yodogimi. One blow the tea cabinet she herself used at that time, and another one smashed a pillar, that fell and killed 2 of her personal servants. This Insidence is one of the main reason of ending of 1614 Campaign via Ceasefire.
In 1637, Shimabara Rebellion, The VOC were asked by The Tokugawa Shogunate to bombard the Catholic Rebels that taken and fortified themselves at Hara Castle.

hey nice mod. i have a suggestion. would be good to add a Dutch East India Company symbol or the "VOC" to identify them as Dutch. for don't be igual the other cannons. i've already tried to do it myself for me but i don't found the models.
Good fix, yeah mortars back then weren't to accurate, if only you could get airbursting shells because the shells would be set off by a fuze so they eather exploded in the air or after hitting the ground. Also thanks for posting that story of when mortars were first demonstrated to the Japanese.
Heres a couple of vids of Civil War mortars firing live rounds, they are basically similar in design.
