Default Why cant I get over ~60FPS

Oki I have a bit of a problem with medieval 2:

Firstly the rig I am trying to play on is:

    QX6700 @3Ghz
    Dual 8800GTX's in SLI
    Asus Striker Extreme 680i mobo
Dual 7.2k RPM 80GBs Drives in Raid 0

The problem is even at low resultions and low detail I cannot get even near 100fps :S. even If I increase the res to 1600x1200 and turn up all the eyecandy I still do not get much better/worse frame rates.
Those GPU's should run far better than that.

So What I was wondering is Medieval 2 Frame rate limited or is it an incompatibily at my end?.

Bizzare this is I can play any other game (nearly) and get much better resultts

I noticed the same on a single 8800GTS. Even on the lowest settings it wont go over 60FPS. Nice set up by the way.

I wonder if this is specified in any of the config files..

maybe the framerate is locked at 60fps

anyway even 20fps is playable on a RTS so i wouldnt be worried at all

Nice rig anyway how much did that set you back?

I could swear your just looking for an excuse to show of your rig.

Trying playing with only one video card rather then run it in SLI and see what results you get. Also the CPU you're using is slower then most of the other high end Core 2 Duo's, so try overclocking it to see if you get any better preformace.

I get slightly lower results than with a SLI setup - also that is 3Ghz which is faster clock than a core 2 extreme - it also has twice the L2 Cache as each "half" is running @3Ghz

If I was doing it to show off Id make sure I had a pair (or more) of raptors or cheeters in raid

Is there a VSync option in the graphics menu? If it's ticked it will limit the frame rate.

Vertical Synch appears to be enabled by default in Medieval2 - this will cap your framerate at 60 in order to stop your monitor trying to display more than one frame at the same time (which introduces an effect called 'tearing' if disabled, and doesnt look that nice when you notice it)

This option here should be unticked if you want over 60 frames per second (though there is no reason you would, there is no benefit and the above mentioned negative effect)

Ur, maybe you're using vertical sync?

I think Medieval 2 doesn't even use all your 4 cores since it's not designed for that.

VSync doesn't lock the fps to 60. It limits the fps to the monitor refresh rate.
Or if you can't achieve that rate it is going to get limited to: (refresh rate)/2.

Medieval 2, like all other strategy games in the past, don't need 100fps to get smooth gameplay. Stop worrying about the FPS and just enjoy the game!

Compared to people whos getting 10-20 FPS, you should be glad.

M2TW is just weird with frame rates. Don't ever use M2TW to measure up your system's performance or anything.

I hate you and your freaking awesome rig. Playing with all the settings maxed out and worrying that 60 isn't high enough! I wish I had that problem.

Frame rates don't matter at all. All that matters is the appearance of the game to your eyes. A game can run at 5 frames per second and still have the appearance of being quite smooth, never size up performance by FPS, your eye's judgment creates the best analysis of performance in a game.

    * It sounds pretty weird though.. sounds like an issue with M2's compatibility with the CPU and the gpu combo. Just wait until a patch comes out to support your cards. Damn 8800s. Fudging beasts.

Why do you even care? You can't even notice that high!
