Had an idea for a thread where we could suggest films for others. These dont have to be new films, any and all should be suggested. If you think it's great, post it.

We all know how terrible movies can be, but there is also a fountain of greatness out there. I'll start. Please provide a imdb or wiki link along with a pic if possible with your suggestion.

    Donnie Darko (2001)
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0246578/

Ok. If you're into being mind ****ed while at the same time experiencing a great movie this is the one for you. Donnie Darko is an instant cult classic.

Everyone probably has a friend who keeps saying "Man, you gotta watch Donnie Darko." Theres a reason for this...it freakin' rules. Figuring out the movie is part of the fun so I wont get into many details, but I will say this. When young Donnie starts having visions of an apocalyptic 6ft tall bunny rabbit called "Frank", things can only go one way. Or can they? One of the most well done and memorable endings (a sort of montage) ever.

A must see. If you havent seen this quit reading right now, run out and rent it. Hell, buy it. You wont regret it.

And watched the grisly pilgrims go that walk the roads of Death,
And I have seen black valleys gape, abysses in the gloom,
And I have fought the deathless Ape that guards the Doors of Doom."

    I'd recommend-

    THE ELEPHANT MAN (1980)

This is the story of a Victorian 'freak' John Merrick. How he is treated would be heart-rending if it were fiction, let alone based on truth. Nearly made me cry. Nuff said.

Yay! Donnie Darko got in first! That one's in my top two of all time. Brilliant! In fact I just recently watched it for about the 5th time and I still picked up stuff I didn't before

    Anyway, I'd recommend:

    MEMENTO (2000)

Plot Outline: A man, suffering from short-term memory loss, uses notes and tattoos to hunt for the man he thinks killed his wife

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0209144/

Another total mind job. The whole movie runs backwards, scene by scene. You spend the entire time watching it like a hawk and thinking YOU have short term memory loss! Trying to piece together events, locations and people in a story that runs backwards is really something. And the ending is just awesome of course, really well worth unravelling the whole thing. Will have you thinking about it for days afterwards.

I would like to introduce you all to Aaltra

It's about 2 neighbours who get crippled in the same acciden(while fighting one another) And they decide to go to Finland to demand money of the manufacter
So it's basicly a Road movie in a wheelchair(with lots of dark and sarcastic humour) about 2 guys who hated eachother that and get to Finland
It may sound as a strange concept but it's very good.

(they are hoarding parking spaces for crippled people that they rent to get some money)

Great movies so far guys. Havent seen Aaltra, might be hard to find in the states but I'll definately look. The Elephant Man and Momento are both excellent, we have some good taste in the room.

    I'd like to recommend:

    Quills (2000)
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0180073/

A delightfuly wicked little film about the last days of the Marquis De Sade, taking place inside an insane asylum in France. While the film does take liberties with certain parts of De Sade's final days it's still a remarkable movie. Strong performances by an all star cast, Geoffrey Rush being absolutely brilliant as the aging Marquis.

The filth & gritiness of the film is great, in more than one sense, but, most notably in the costumes and set design, as it would have been back then. So if you're in the mood for a "most unpure tale" check this out. But make sure the kiddies are in bed first.

    28 Days Later

Dawn of the Dead meets Lock, Stock. A thrilling... thriller where, to not spoil it too much, a man wakes up from a coma to find that zombies have risen and been killing while he's been asleep. He finds unexpected friends aswell as enemies, a movie you won't forget in a while.

BTW, if anyone's thinking of raising monkeys, please don't experiment on them. You never know when some animal activist will destroy the world.
