    Default CeaseFires

I'm the romans. Y is it now that even though i'm kicking the ever loving crap out of the gauls and illyrians that when I send a diplomat to end the war. They keep saying NO. I remember a while back that the A.I is not that stupid. I have the RTR 1.7 with the extended realism mod in it. IS there a way I can make them say yes.

I mean man I have 8 legions for each front. The gauls and illyrians(Total of 16 legions). They will lose but I don't want to conquer them just yet. I want to concentrate on siciliy and Carthage.

    Thanks.

If you got a border with them they wont accept peace.

Try to build forts and keep a few strong stacks around - this will mostly keep them from attackin too oftly.

If you conquer Illyria you just multiply the problem. THen you get war with maceone and they are a lot harder.

you ought to plan your conquests according to this to avoid havin annoyin wars at all fronts. Most important thing as Rome - to decide when you will wage war with macedone. Because you are smarter you will always win. But if you wait too long it might be quite difficult and timeconsuming.

I think this has something to do with dislike levels--I've kept Pontus and Armenia peaceful for 100+ turns despite being close neighbors. I'm going to do some research on this for future MightyMiniMod versions.

Yeah probably the settings in the descr_strat make them hate each other

Agreed. Has anyone studied how those levels operate? I mean, can they change over the course of a game if one country is nice/mean to another?

A lot of people are maxed at 600, and I think maybe they should be lowered a bit.

Well I do have a border with the Illyrians and gauls. It's not my fault. The Illyrians attack ME. i attaacked gaul for the northern settlements in the alps. But now that I have them I don't want war from them. But well it looks like I will have to take care of both of them. This is not the first time I have had a war on two fronts.

It's not surprising that the Gauls and Romans would fight a lot, given their tempestuous history together, so I probably won't alter that one much. The Illyrians I don't know much about, though (time to check Wikipedia).

The AI tends to attack just about anyone with whom it has a border. I think the only way to avoid it is to establish trade and an alliance prior to sharing a border, then work hard to maintain them. Furthermore, your base relationship (i.e., the one in descr_strat) needs to be reasonably good.

My goal for modifying descr_strat would be to put more empires into that reasonably good initial range from which long-term positive relationships are possible. Any suggestions as to who historically played nice with each other?

Urgh, yeah....I hate the AI, as much as I love it. In my current campaign, I'm can't finish off my conquest of the Armenians or the Seleucids, simply because that would give me a common, and accessible, border with the Macedonians. I have to fight a massive, three front war (now little more than a border war with the Armenians) against Armenia, the Seleucid Empire, and the Ptolemaic Empire. The annoying part is that Egypt was once my ally in the war against the Seleucids; they were rolling northeast through Syria and Asia Minor. Then their offensive stopped for no reason....as soon as I captured Doura Europos, they had a common, and accessible border, and lunched a full fledged offensive against me. Very much annoying.
The oddities of how peaceful some factions can be is interesting as well. As the Romans, I was finishing off the Gauls, when the Germans launched an invasion. Despite the Gauls refuse my peace offer, I still managed to crush the German expeditionary force, and secure a ceasefire that lasted over a 100 years before they attacked me....and gave me a chance to try out my brand new Marian troops >: D
Most annoying of all is the AI's refusal to surrender, and sometimes their terms even! With multiple armies converging on their last territories, factions that, in real life, would beg for mercy, demand that I give them back all of their territory, plus a huge sum of gold, in exchange for a ceasefire! What are they gonna do? Take that half an army and beat my 5?!

BTW, I love the AI's predictability in sieges....I besiege a city, they send a relief army, I kill 2 birds in one stone, and Anatolia's mine after 10 years.

Why is it that at least one of the Romans are wusses?
