    Is it possible that flintlock have been used? And I mean massivly used...

    This is certainly not a thing but.... Flintlock? Yess..... It mean quicker reaction time and reloading.
    It make the last minute volley strategy easier.

    As far as Wikipedia says (which means it must be taken with a grain of salt), Firearms in Japan never generally progressed past Matchlocks, due to the ending of the war during the Sengoku Jidai into a peaceful era that lasted for up to ~300 years.

    It's also stated in Wikipedia that Flintlocks were being developed in Japan around the 19th century, due to increased incursions by the Europeans....

    Course, the guns were already turning from muskets into rifles by that time period, a lesson that was soon to be learned quickly by the Japanese......
