Good, although I dont know why they dont just ban it altogether.

I'm all for that. The measures the government are putting on smoking are actually very commendable. One of the few things I'm happy about with Labours term in office.

Yea I'm glad they're focusing on the bigger issue (smoking) then on one of the smaller issues (immigration, involvement in "war on terror"). Although this new measure will stop kids from under 18 from smoking cigarettes like kids in America don't drink until their 21.
Fact > Faith
well that's good news
Retarded.
Because it won't stop. I had just turned 13 (with the legal smoking age being 18) when I could just walk on a school brake to this store where this Chinese or Vietnamese or whatever the **** he was sold tobacco to anyone. Besides, people should be free to choose to do whatever the **** they want and face the consequences, maybe they'd learn something for a change?! That's the problem with these governments, they actually are naive enough to believe that this will change anything, either that or they know that nothing is changing and are just doing this to please all these ****ing idiots.

I wonder how many 16 year olds stockpiled hundreds of dollars of cigarettes before the ban took place to smoke and sell to there friends
Where I live (Texas) they just added on an additional $1/pack tax, effective yesterday, bringing the cost to right at $5/pack. For a pack and a half a day smoker that is an annual INCREASE of over $500/year, or a total cost of about $2,800/annum.
The better part of a new car payment.
I am now into my second day of not smoking.![]()

5$ a pack?! yeah thats kinda ridiculous O_o
well its hard to say what you define a pack to be, but in your moneyu, i reckon an average pack costs closer to $7 in the UK...
Armfelt, trading enforcement laws are fairly tough in this country, and Trading Standards Officers have a favourite method of entrapment, they pay kids to go into shops to see if they can buy stuff they shouldn't be able to
with hefty on the spot fines for cashiers, shop owners and people buying the stuff, its a lose lose situation all round. its even a criminal offence to buy cigarettes with intent to give them to someone else. and yes, i know people who have been fined for that...

one of the advantages of a bureacratic government is that the department of Health can be working on anti smoking regulations without in the slightest affecting the work (or lack thereof) of the Home Office in tackling illegal immigration.
i'm qyuite glad the government is rolling out tougher measures against smokers, i'm especially looking forward to the public smoking ban that comes into force in July.
