    Default SSHIP vs Titanium

Hi all, I could use some help to choose the submod for a SS replay.

I'm generally looking for longer difficult campaign, immersion and good character development.

    Cheers.

Xerxes: The aqueduct. Reg: Oh yeah, yeah they gave us that. Yeah that's true.
    Activist 1: And the sanitation!
Stan: Oh yes...sanitation, Reg you remember what the city used to be like.
Reg: all right, that's two things that the Romans have done...
    Matthias: And the roads...
Reg: Well yes obviously the roads goes without saying. But apart from...
    Activist 2, 3, 4, 5: Irrigation...Medicine...Education...and the wine...
Francis: Yeah the wine. That's something we'd really miss if the Romans left.

If you really want difficulty, go with the submod BGRV, where you can only recruit 14 to 24 mostly levy and militia level units every 12 turns. It's also great for character development as characters age at 12 turns per year, and thus are likely to stay alive the entire game. It's also great for immersion as generals have ancillaries that give them particular functions, such as the "War Councillor" ancillary for leading armies in enemy territory, and the "Administrator" ancillary for recruiting higher tier units in designated "centralized" cities. Generals have their own purses and can go broke and be banished and can rebel or cause empire wide rebellion. The game also gets much more difficult as your empire expands, with cost of recruitment rising and rebellion more likely. And there is much, much more than that. It's the only way I will play the game. But be aware, it's extremely difficult to survive very long, let alone win the game, and it takes a fair while to learn the ins and outs - you must read the accompanying manual.

Roland searched the continent for the man who'd done him in
He found him in Mombasa in a barroom drinking gin
Roland aimed his Thompson gun. He didn't say a word
But he blew Van Owen's body from there to Johannesburg

Thanks for the reply, I experienced BGRV back when i played SS6.3 and it was challenging indeed. It certain is old but gold. Cheers.

Titanium's goal is to be a more polished version of Stainless Steel while SSHIP is supposed to be a more hardcore/realistic imagining of the Middle Ages, but without the complicated scripts and opaque gameplay systems of Byg's Grim Reality.

I really like Bellum Crucis' approach to M2, but I prefer SSHIP because it is a lot more stable, is in English, has guns, and still has a similar amount of unit variety and aesthetic.

You should play them both a few turns and see how you like it. There both good mods. Although I prefer Titanium, I have played Bellum Crucis which is a fantastic game in itself.

I'd say just play Stainless Steel with the following (sub) mods:
    ● BugFix Compilation v1.27
    ● G5 Settlements
    ● Next Heir Mod
    ● Viva La Rebellion - Re-Emerging Factions.

This alone provides a very good & immersive campaign,
though it's not 'per se' difficult, you can select BGR II-IV.
