Thread: 12th Century East Asia - Shaoding v1.1 released

  1. #1

Default 12th Century East Asia - Shaoding v1.1 released

Shaoding is a mod set in the 12th century of East Asia. During this time, the Chinese Song Dynasty had lost its northern territories to the Jin in the north and the start date (1130) is 3 years right after that loss.

This mod has been in development for a long time and recently its creator, Againster, has updated it to v1.1 which adds quite a few new soldier models in the game, including armor upgrade models. While many of the units already have models (except Goryeo Korea, which has a very incomplete roster), quite a few of them are incomplete and need texturing work while the ones that are complete are receiving improved texturing (especially in faces) and that is what future updates will bring to Shaoding.

Do note that this mod is untranslated, so there may be a lot of things that are confusing, especially the scripted events.

    ====================================================================================

Without further ado, here are the faction rosters that I will post as soon as I have time.
The names of the units are literal translations because I don't have time to do in-depth research and translation. My apologies.

    Song Faction and Army Subfactions

Many units are shared between the Song factions, such as the general's bodyguard, ranged units, and siege units. I will make a note if a unit is unique if not otherwise stated in the unit name.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Song Liang Huai War Zone
Huai River Border Army. They were specialized in fighting Jin Dynasty troops.

Strength: Balanced roster, excellent ranged units.
Weakness: Units have high upkeep, difficult campaign map starting position

    Song General's Bodyguard

    Sword Militia

    Song Spear Militia

    Militia Fire Lancers

Huai Army Spearmen (The Huai Army was also called the Eight-Character Army due to their motto having eight characters: “赤心報國,誓殺金賊” which translates to "Loyal in protecting the kingdom; pledged to kill all Jin bandits.")

    Huai Army Pikemen

    Pear Blossom Gunners

    Huai Army Swordsmen

    Huai Army Longswordsmen

    Militia Archers

    Militia Crossbows

    Song Archers

    Song Crossbows

"Enemy-Vanquishing" Crossbowmen, in other words they wield the Divine Crossbow which is the Song Dynasty's steel arbalest used to counter enemy heavy cavalry. (Huai Only)

    Song Riders

    Song Heavy Cavalry

    Song Ballista

    Flamethrower

    Catapult

    Miao Warriors

    Song JingHu War Zone
Song JingHu Border Army stationed at an area slightly to the south of Henan.

Strength: Balanced roster, excellent heavy cavalry choices
Weakness: Strong enemies at the beginning of the campaign, high unit upkeep

JingXiang (refers to the seven prefectures of Jingzhou) Provincial Swordsmen
In previous versions of Shaoding they had their own unique model as seen in the unit description picture, but since v1.1 they share the same model with the Song Militia Swordsmen.
These screenshots show their armor upgrade models

    Level 1

    Level 2

    Jingxiang Provincial Sickle-Spearmen

Militia Fire Lancers with 1 Armor Upgrade

    JingXiang Spearmen
They may look identical to the Huai Army Spearmen, but their helmets are a bit less armored

    JingXiang Swordsmen

Song Archers and Crossbows with 1 Armor Upgrade

    JingXiang Heavy Cavalry

    Towering Back Soldiers

    Song Xichuan Warzone

Interestingly, the Xichuan Circuit is an old name for what is now Sichuan (or Szechwan).

Strength: Strong, hardy heavy infantry and mountain fighters.
Weakness: Strong enemies at the beginning of the campaign, roster lacks cavalry.

    Xichuan General's Bodyguard

    Light Pikemen (Unique)

Pear Blossom Gunners with Armor Upgrade

    Light Spearmen (Unique)

    Light Infantry (Unique)

    Armored Spearmen (Unique)

    Light Archers (Unique)

    Light Crossbows (Unique)

    Heavy Archers (Unique)

    Heavy Crossbows (Unique)

    Song Imperial Court

    Strength: Balanced roster, powerful economy
Weakness: Units have extremely high upkeep but below average fighting ability

    Emperor's Personal Guard

    Imperial Pikemen

    Imperial Swordsmen

    Imperial Polearms

    Imperial Golden Spears

    Dragon Banner Formation

    XiXia (Western Xia)
Otherwise known as the Minyaks or Tangut Empire.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Strength: Large numbers of tribal infantry, cavalry units readily available yet reliable.
Weakness: Mediocre economy, starting location is far from profitable land.

    Western Xia General's Bodyguard

    Slave Levies

    Heng Hillmen

Shield Bearers of the Inner 6 Guards
My interpretation of the characters though one can just call them XiXia Royal Swordsmen. They are considered an elite in the Tangut armies.

Golden Halberds of the Inner Six Guards

Steel Hammers of the Inner Six Guards
They used to have hammers. Now they're swordsmen

    Qi Empire

Historians usually just refer to it as Da Qi or False Qi.

During an interim between the Jin-Song wars, the Jin set up a puppet kingdom in the territory previously occupied by the Northern Song. Liu Yu, a Song defector, was enthroned its emperor. It only lasted eight years before being dissolved by the Jin.

    Strength: Numerous militia troops.

    Mongol Empire

Strength: Reliable tribal warriors; numerous, strong cavalry units.

I'm having trouble putting the words "突襲" into an appropriate English name. It translates into Ambushers, or literally Sudden Strike, but these guys don't fit the definition of sneaky ambushers. They're more like fast attack troops.

    Dismounted Kheshig Marksmen

    HuChiJia Vanguard Cavalry

    Kheshigs

could anyone give me some more details about this mod, like it seems to have pretty complex mechanism but you obviously cant understand these unless you speak asian, for example when playing as japan factions I dont have any units to recruit. Also one sad thing about this mod is, its more like historic kinda mod, so there is plenty of stacked garrisons and alot of armies and large areas of the map already captures, kinda wish the start would be more humble. And one last thing now im at that, what is the purpose of the 3 additional campaign choices in the menu? Ill apriciate any help with understand this game better and I belive others will too

Until someone does at least basic english translation with google translate (which would take several weeks) you have to wait.
