After I searched a little in the Tools, Tutorials and Resources subforum I found a map tool.
Lordz's Map Tools
I don't know if that map tool will get you started or not, but maybe there are other tools or resources that suits you better than the map tool I found.

You could start from here, my tutorial covers ETW too since the basics are the same. The only thing that changes is how the alpha channel is handled.
