Thread: A proper late hellenistic/reformed helmet model

Default A proper late hellenistic/reformed helmet model

I appreciate that you guys continue to improve the mod and probably being the only reason many of us still keeping the vapid Rome 2 on our PCs.
The Hellenistic overhaul was with the 1.2 was very robust and add more authentic look to the units. Still there is plenty room for improvements.

I'm sure I'm not the only one fascinated by late Hellenistic armies and who would like a bit more depth put into them. A good start would be for them to have a proper common helmet used in that period. I think archaeologists conventionally named it "Ascalon" or "Thraco-Attic" type. It appears on several surviving fresces and basoreliefs like in the " Steele of Dioskourides". Its also illustrated in most of the military illustrations I can think of and in several scientific works.

You guys seem to have attempted to include it in the mod but is not exactly the proper thing. I think this was a model preexisting in game (wear by Varus at Teutoborg forest battle

and you guys modified it in this

However I don't think that is a very good result and the fact that its worn by lots of units I think it deservers proper attention. Its correct implantation will totally and instantly flesh out all of the Hellenistic rosters. I couldn't find yet a rome2 mod that implemented it but here is a Medieval 2 one and some other illustrations

Sadly we don't have anyone who can make us new models. If we would, we would have a lot more proper stuff, like real Macedonian cavalry shields

They are active but they can't make new models, only retexture existing ones. We tried to look for people who can do that but in half a year we only were able to get new pike phalanx shield.

We sadly can't use our versions of 3ds MAX any more and the program costs thousands of dollars for a licensed and supported version.

would you considered those eductional versions for Maya and Max? Maya LT for 300 euros/year doesnt seem a bad business. Blender is also one of the hottest 3d package along with Houdini these days. I still have access to Autodesk eductional software (even though those 3 years have long expired).

Hopefully my brother will be getting a couple of GTX 1080's so he can sell/give his 1070's to me
