Good update, it's an enjoyable story so far.
This reminded me of something I've recently read.

That doesn't sound like a good situation for either side, really. Obviously the Byzantines suffered more, but I'm guessing the English lost some of their forces to the plague, and others to the fighting, so they must be noticeably weaker than they were, if anyone else is watching for an opportunity...
I agree with Axis, your previous update provided compelling reasons why the Byzantines, despite their wealth and the experience of their armies, struggled in their war against King Randolf's English armies. I feel sorry for the Byzantines, outmatched in war and suffering from the plague!
Once again bugs have stricken my campaign, ending it at the year 1434 as the Second Anglo-Byzantine War flares up. However, that still leaves us a century or so of time to cover, including such events as the subjugation of Portugal, the war with the Timurids, and the Dynastic conflicts.
From 'The Apocalypse War: A Record of the Tripartite Conflict':
The war itself was one of scorched earth and bloody battles. The Western Front, centered on the mighty city of Vienna, saw the heaviest fighting and the majority of battles, but despite this was generally civilized, as far as war could be said to be. It was in the East that the greatest brutality, born of necessity, was found. Aston Greene commanded the sole English field army in the area, and he was keenly aware of the ease with which the Byzantines could divert the flow of men fighting the Mongols to crush his force. But the border cities of Damascus and Tortosa were lightly guarded, ravaged by plague as they were. Aston dispatched two squadrons of Khwarez mercenaries, 1200 men total, and instructed them to sneak into the cities, slaughter the guards, and raze them to the ground.
"The Byzantines will strike at our lands. They seek to take the Holy City from us. We, as good Christian men, cannot allow this! Men of Khwarez, converts to the True Faith! You shall prevent this! Go forth, and raze it, even unto the foundation..."
-attributed to Aston Greene
At this, they were alarmingly successful.
Alii inferre bellum, facientibus pacem.
Dang!!! Any chance at a save from earlier point? If not, I will still be awaiting for your next attempt. Interesting reading does not need a conclusion though it is a bit like reading half a novel and then putting it aside and forgetting about it. It was still worth it!
I'm sorry to hear about the bugs and, like NorseThing, I hope that there can be a way to recover from this setback and continue your AAR - I hope to hear more about this 'alarming success'.
