    Icon10 A gift to the community: map of the Iberian Peninsula

    Hey,

    I was bored, so I made a huge zoomed in M2TW map of the Iberian peninsula.

    It has no regions, nor rivers yet so it could be used for any timeframe.

    You are allowed to do everything with this map what you want: use it in other mods and even commercial projects without mentioning me in the credits, modify and sell it, use it in a project and claim you made it, print it out and use it as toilet paper, etc. As long as you don't restrict me to use of the original map myself nor to restrict the use of this map by others. However you could claim copyrights on a modified version of this map and make profit with it.

    It included the following files:

    map_ground_types.tga
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    map_climates.tga
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    map_heights.tga
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    descr_terrain.txt
    Code:
    dimensions
    {
        width  510
        height  510
    }
    heights
    {
        min_sea_height  -3122.256
        max_land_height  3500 ;7511.272
    }
    roughness
    {
        min  50.000
        max  1000.000
    }
    fractal
    {
        multiplier  0.75
    }
    lattitude
    {
        min  34.000
        max  44.000
    }
    As you can see I redefined some climates and one ground type, this would require editing of descr_geography.db, replacement of campaign map textures, editing of daytypes, editing of sound effects, edits to vegetation and a few other files. You would need the IWTE tool for that.

    When it comes to ground types: swamp terrain is now passable mountains.

    regarding climates:

    Blue (semi arid in vanilla) => Mediterranean dense shrubland (no snow in winter)

    bright purple (rocky desert in vanilla) => Semi-arid open shrubland (no snow in winter)

    deep purple: (sandy desert in vanilla) => Desert (no snow in winter)

    magenta (Mediterranean in vanilla) => Mediterranean open woodland (no snow in winter)

    redish magenta (not used in vanilla) => Temperate grassland (snow in winter)

    red (steppe in vanilla) => Mediterranean grassland (no snow in winter)

    yellow (not used in vanilla) => Mediterranean pine forest (no snow in winter)

    dark orange (deciduous forest in vanilla) => Mediterranean mixed pine/deciduous forest (no snow in winter)

    bright orange (temperate coniferous forest in vanilla) => Mediterranean deciduous forest (no snow in winter)

    darkest shade of green (jungle in vanilla) => Mediterranean evergreen forest (no snow in winter)

    middle shade of green (alpine in vanilla: => Temperate pine forest (snow in winter)

    brightest shade of green (highland in vanilla) => Temperate deciduous forest (snow in winter)

    Feel free to create regions for these map for various timeframes and/or features map and upload them here. Also feel equally free to upload a modified version of M2TW's climates and ground types to make this map work.

    I've uploaded it to my google drive:

    Happy modding!!

    Nicely detailed map. Is there a particular reason why the climates are very sharply defined in the Northern peninsula? It will reflect in the map's texture and look a bit odd with it's straight lines. While I appreciate the idea of additional climates that's a matter of some rather advanced modding to implement it, especially the change in the battle map set up.

    Does your download include a map_features file?

    Basically I combined a potential vegetation map with a snowline overlay. The potential vegetation map, the same as the one which is used to calculate RTRVII's climates. However my map is higher in resolution than that potential vegetation map and has several large chunks. However I lost the snowline map so I couldn't dither it without affecting the snowline.

    And no it doesn't include a map_features file.

    The recent dithering in the climate map should display nicely now.

    Thanks for your feedback, I wonder if any mod would actually use my map.

    Thank you very much, it isn't complete tho because I didn't have the time. Rivers and regions are still missing, as well as the necessary changes to climates. Perhaps @xHolyCrusader could help with that aspect of modding as I don't have time right now to install the IWTE tool. However I made vegetation models which could be used to create some variation in environments. For campaign map textures I actually prefer those from RTW over the M2TW ones.

    Hello. By the way, a curiosity. Where do you get the information to make a ground_types file so detailed?

    I'm doing a provincial campaign on the Caribbean, but I don't know the types of terrain, they are very varied and I don't know any website that provides me with accurate information.

    Spoiler for MAP

    Greetings
