Halikarnasos Local Colonies

Thread: Halikarnasos Local Colonies

    Default Halikarnasos Local Colonies

    As mentioned in another thread I created. I checked as the Ptolemies as well, and it appears that if you destroy the greek colonies in Halikarnasos, you can indeed build local colonies instead. This is despite the province in question having Hellenic Autonomy, which is meant to be exclusive of constructing local colonies. I have seen this bug as both Ptolemies and Pontos now, so it doesn't seem to be a faction-specific thing.

    This is not a bug, but perhaps the fact that Hellenic Autonomy excludes the construction of local colonies might could be added to the description of Hellenic Autonomy. The entire reason I discovered this bug is because I was digging through EDB trying to figure out why I was unable to build local colonies in Ephesos. Even a brief sentence under strategy would be sufficient, thanks

    It's a universal bar in the requirements of the Local Colony, so it should apply to all. The rationale is simple; just as these people resent the imposition of a "tyrant" on them by a foreign power, so they also don't appreciate having foreign soldiers settled amongst them.

    What doesn't make any sense is how this could be selectively applied:

    Code: [View]
    and not building_present_min_level hinterland_uniques3 threenine
    It should either work or not, I can't explain why it's being applied in some places and not others.

    It sounds like he's saying that part of the restriction isn't working at all and perhaps there's some other blocker in Ephesos.

    Perhaps building_present_min_level doesn't work with the top level? Or with a ninth level? IIRC it gets weird after 8 levels, doesn't it?

    If Ephesos has a Hellenic Metropoleis, then that will do it too.

    The primary aim was that we don't want them in Greece; the simpler, but more restrictive method would be to ban them from anywhere with a polis_two or above, but that would have a big impact in the later game. Given how the AI likes to build and upgrade polis buildings.

    I mentioned this in the original thread, but both times I've seen this happen, Ephesos had a polis_two (the one it starts out with) and Halikarnasos had a polis_one.

    It is easy enough to replicate, if that concerns you:
    1. Begin a campaign as Ptolemaioi
    2. Queue strategic fortifications to be built in Halikarnasos
    3. "process_cq Halikarnasos" in the console
    4. Voila. Both colony types are constructible in the building list

    On a side note, I would feel fairly disappointed if the polis_three restriction dropped to polis_two. There are maybe only a handful of provinces it would be relevant for (and it is not relevant for many factions, either), but there's already a significant happiness penalty for having polis_two and local colonies.

    The other problem with changing the restriction from threenine to polis_two is the Greek provinces which lack polis_two and yet are Greek (namely Illyrioi Hellenike, Halikarnasos, and Knossos, I think). Those would need to be upgraded to polis_two in order to restrict construction of local colonies. Upgrading their poleis before the campaign begins runs into issues as well, I'm guessing (gameplay balance and colonist acquisition, for example).

    There wouldn't be a grand upgrading of polis_one's to polis_two's - they're at the levels they are for a reason. It would just be a clumsier implementation than the intended one.

    I note that Halikarnassos and Ephesos are the only two which have a culture issue that means an extra line is needed for the Autonomia building:

    Code: [View]
    	{
    		type hinterland_uniques3 threenine
            creator f_pergamon
    	}
    I can't imagine that's interacting with anything, though.

    Judging by the public order in Halikarnasos, it appears that the primary effect of Hellenic Autonomy is working (it has 0 happiness and 0 law, as you'd expect). Figured I'd check whether both effects were malfunctioning, but as far as I can tell, that's not the case.
