    Default Removing hording

First of all, thank you for your work with the mod. It's been a while since the last time I played it and I see there is a lot of great new content.

I've read hordes can freeze the game 30 minutes or even more, and that's something game-breaking for me, because sometimes I just have 1 hour or less to play and the last thing I need is to spend it just waiting for the game to continue. I guess I could do another thing in the meantime, of course, but that's not the point.

So, is there a way to remove hording? I don't mind losing some realism if I'm allowed to actually play when I want to. I have a crappy PC that makes turns slow, combined with freezing and lack of playing time is just to much for me.

I've seen some references inside campaign_script, but I don't want to delete things without asking.

    It's in the descr_sm_factions.txt.

Note if you do this, you will disadvantage those factions, for them hording is the only way they can return from "death". Whereas all the non-hording factions have faction re-emergence.

Thank you for all the comments.

So I just need to delete "horde_..." lines in descr_sm_factions, right? That's all?

I understand the disadvantages. Maybe in a few months with a new PC I'll be able to play the game properly.

If the problem is horde factions dying, perhaps I could give them some bonus so they don't die easily. Any advice besides giving them money?

Thanks for the tip, QS. I didn't know that.

OP, I can sympathize. While my computer is not slow, I still remember the first time a faction horded in one of my campaigns. I'm fairly sure I thought the game had crashed and shut it down.

I might suggest interspersing a campaign with short chores. That's what I do in the morning when I'm getting ready for work. It allows me to have a little fun while still being productive.

I remember having horde freezes on my old computer... sometimes I thought I could walk them out my front door faster.

While that's true, it's not happening all that often, either. I only seen Hoarding a 2-3 times in a couple hundred turns I think.

Giving them money won't work, they won't spontaneously have more recruitment capability or slots as a result. At most they might be able to hire some mercs, but they're competing with everyone else for the same finite resource.

I ran a LOT of long pre-release v2.3 tests, and had a number of hording instances, but I don't recall any "horde-freezing" whatsoever. Just wondering if that's something we inadvertently fixed. Here's a question for the players out there: I imagine quite a few of you have seen hording with the new release....are the long delays still affecting any of you?

Kull, having played a good chunk of 2.2g-2.2r and now 2.3, I do feel like there have been less hording-freezes. Which is to say I can't think of any off the top of my head. It may still take a bit of extra time while cycling between turns, but it's generally much more reasonable.

    I 2nd this

I had a massive Nabaetean horde in one of my games and it din't effect me. They travelled from Tarsos to siege Pto-Akko and I don't remember any significant decrease in speed. The only problem I'm having at the moment is that large battles can really slow me down unless I turn the detail/veg effects down. But that's most likely an issue with my laptop.

Which, if the freezes are related to the general performance of the script, would make sense. It's been significantly optimised since then, even if it's bigger.

I had a hoard cause my turn to be 5 minutes long once but I second the comments above. Overall, hoarding has much less effect on turn times than in the past. Much less.

I don't know from where these "30 minutes" come from because to me it was always like 2 - 5 minutes at most...

There are some comments in this forum talking about 30 minutes or even more. Maybe it's only related with old PCs and old versions of the mod, but I have an old PC and I was a little worried.

With my new PC, I don't notice anything. It was never great to begin with, but vastly better than my old one. Upgrade ya specs, people.

I usually barely notice it with 2.3, there was 1 time when it was like 3 minutes or so. Definitely better then before.

My PC is also kinda crappy, but I'm having no problem wit hording whatsoever, I'm on turn 200 and it already happened a couple of times.
