    England

"Charge forward men! For God and Saint George!" With that battlecry did the English forces under Lord Sandy begin their assault on Dunstaffnage. The Scots had been taken completely unawares, the castle only manned by barely clad highlanders. Sailing around Galloway and passing by Glasgow the English landed on the Argyll peninsula. Urging his troops forward with promises of loot and glory the followers of Saint George reached the castle, defending the gateway to the heart of the highlands, without giving the northern kingdom time to respond. A short but intense fight erupted as the English knights rushed to secure the gates that their agents had opened. Two hours later a hundred Scots lay dead with two hundred more captured. Fifty Englishmen were laid to rest there as the Norman Lions were strewn over the parapets.

    Wales

Rhys was still drunk from the celebrations. He still couldn't believe that what had transpired really happened. The pride of Scotland humbled, its might battered. The haughty Hew forced to flee the field not once but TWICE, now trapped within the walls of Killua Castle. Caradog could only imagine the surprise the Scots must have felt when they saw the Dragon of the West flying over the hills of Trim. Glorious it had been, the charge of the green and red. Despite the element of surprise the Scots were still a hardy folk and put up considerable resistance. This was not an army of highland rabble but of highly trained and well armoured Scots arguably the best Scotland had to offer, battle-hardened and veterans of war on the Emerald Isle. They quickly found their discpline and formed a line. Cormac, Prince of Ireland joined the Dragons in the battle of the Celtic Nations though Caradog could not convince the Prince to follow in the pursuit of the retreating Scots resulting in the Welsh to face off against the northerners on their own. Of the almost 2000 strong army he entered Ireland with only half survived the terrible onslaught that happened on those two days. Still the Welsh feasted and sang songs deep into the dark of the night.

Once Rhys set his siege in motion he sent messages to his Lord that he had Hew cornered. Rhys Caradog's name would be made eternal in the songs of his people for such a victory. A Welshman achieving what no Englishman had done for years, defeating the Scots in a pitched battle. This made Rhys laugh. Not only would this allow the Welsh overlords in England to use it as leverage in the peace talks but perhaps lead to more autonomy for the Welsh given their contributions. Rhys was a Loyalist through and through though he loved his nation above all else.

    "Burn it."

Prince Nectan ordered the messenger to burn the letter sent from king Hew, asking for desperate aid.
Indeed, as Hew is besieged by the Welsh who had landed in Ireland last spring, he finds himself in dire straits.

The big Scottish army in Ireland has been scattered. Hew is isolated.

But Prince Nectan, who was never in favour of the Irish invasion, and with the terrible news from the mainland of the fall of the gateway to the Highlands, thought that might actually be a good thing if Hew dies.

Nectan turned and left the room.

Duke Geoffrey waited to near the end of the winter, before giving the command to advance, the news reached him of the templar invasion of the north, and he assumed that the scottish prince, would lead somesort of counterattack in the north, to retake the scottish settlements, which would be auspicious time to make their move when the Scottish military's attention was elsewhere. He sent letters to the english king about the current scottish kings peril and the uses they could make out of it, warning him of the problems of killing a Scottish king which might make him more a martyr and a threat than he would be if he was not alive.

But the important news was perhaps the war in ireland was probably in all likelyhood over, if the welsh-english force, acted quickly enough they would probably either force the scottish king to hand back territories either to the crown or to the irish [depending on negations] or this could be done by force majeure , as they were probably the biggest force now on ireland. The war would now be forced back to scotland as the main and last battlefield, where the dukes&king forces were against the new scottish princeling, to see whether he had the mettle to continue the struggle or submit to terms, as scotlands fortunes, waned in this new age, and the duke equally wrote to the Scottish prince personally, hoping that diplomacy could equally bring the scottish to terms by the pen, rather than by the sword. But as in all things, there was the carrot and the stick, and he commanded the forces to march out, heading northwards to besiege Edinburgh for the second time, hoping to either bring the city down[and dominate the lowlands] or at the very least, depreciate the scottish forces, to such a extent, that their defense of the lowlands, would bleed scottish manpower and strength down to a level , that they couldnt continue to hold the lowlands.

[last sentence of templars note - should be "lest" rather than let ..the people of scotland suffer...i leave it to the scotland player to either let the letter stand, and think the letter a threat rather than a offering [winks] as some errors did occur on diplomatic letters or he can read is with the typo amended - PBOB...edit...additionally enable should be read as "inevitable"..[winks] this has been a terrible spelling day for me ]

The army of Godwin lewes marched northwards to place Glasglow undersiege, perhaps a dangerous move, for the scottish could call men from the northwest and from the islands to help resist the siege, but both sides knew , the cost to scottish manpower would be steep. The strategy of the Duke, was not subtle, Godwin thought to himself, it was just using a hammer, to smash and break part of the scottish front, knowing a victory here, would certainly signal the end of the scottish defense of the lowlands, for once a foothold had been made, the english troops would flood in. Equally he knew , the siege might be broken, but he recognized that southern england , had men, to spare, for the bountiful crop fields of southern england sustained a massive population , where-as the mountainous lands of the scots didnt produce the depth of crop , to sustain a large population. Win or lose, he thought to himself, scotland was dying, either with a english victory or by the shear losses of scottish manpower.

    ----------------

On returning to the provinces of the northern shires, Waylander received another offer to kill the english king ..a offer put out apparently put out by the english prince for a substantial sum....a feat perhaps that waylander was not interested in after clearing his name with deeds& he didnt wish to have another bounty on his head from the english royalty....but there was some additional work still to do , as on his travels to the south, he met a Scottish spy heading northwards. They both met in the tavern that night, and waylander detected all the sign's pointing to him being a spy, the undercurrent of Scottish accent, the keeping quiet and drinking alone but listening out for all the news he could get..

But in the morning only waylander was alive out of the two [although many didnt know it] ,free to leave in the early light of day as the sun began to rise, leaving a very disturbed innkeeper and chambermaids, in shock at the dead body swinging on a rope in his room, found in the afternoon after their guest had not come-down out of his room, and they had gone to check on him.

Templar master Alphonso read the letter that had been sent by the supposed king of scotland, who he had heard was trapped in ireland, and deployed scouts to see the situation in the surrounding lands. In the red castle to the south , stood a significant scottish garrison but the bigger danger appeared to the north, where the Scottish sunk many Templar ships who were blockading scottish ports, to clear the way for a massive scottish force to land in the north. He supposed the force was the same one that his people had reported at Kirkwall, and he sat and conferred with his company commanders about what to do next.

Finally a solution was found, it would perhaps lead to more suffering of the Scottish people, but they had been boxed into a corner, so orders were given that Templar shipping would be sent north, attacking the navy that had shepherded the northern scottish force across the waters, isolating them from shipping and sending the scottish ships reeling northwards to the winds.

To finish the year, a message was sent to the northern shires and the duke, with a request for more shipping to secure the northern seas and keep the scottish navy away from the eastern coastline, where great damage could be done to the scottish economy.

Red Castle [/ Black Jack Castle]

    {i looked for a castle for this location and cameup with two choices, picking what i thought was the better choice for its name..but will enclose the second choice which has some lesser history for your reading & historical information, so enjoy }

    History
The earliest structure on the site was built for King William the Lion in the late twelfth century to repel Viking invasions to Lunan Bay. Evidence shows, however, that William took up residence there on several occasions whilst on hunting expeditions. In 1194, William conferred the castle, and land surrounding the village of Inverkeilor, 2 kilometres east of the castle, to Walter de Berkeley, the Great Chamberlain. On his death, his lands of Inverkeilor, with the castle, passed to Ingram de Balliol who had married the heiress of Walter. He rebuilt the castle and the property remained in that family for two generations. When his grandson, Ingram, who flourished between 1280-84, died childless about 1305 the property passed to the son of Constance de Baliol, Henry de Fishburn.

The property was forfeit during the reallocation by Robert the Bruce who in 1328 gave the castle to the Earl of Ross. The castle is referred to as rubeum castrum (Latin for Red Castle) in deeds of 1286, referring to its burnished red sandstone, typical of this area.

[you can perhaps see on this photo why it was named "red castle" being made from that red sandstone ]

The story goes that the then owner, Elizabeth Beaton, married James Gray, son of Lord Gray, but James then fell in love with Elizabeth’s daughter and his wife threw him out. The castle was then attacked, sacked and burnt by Protestants led by James or Jack (hence Black Jack Castle) Gray in 1579, 1580 and 1581, although Andrew Gray of Dunninald, his brother, was summoned for treason for the act, having seized the three guards (including a woman) and holding them in shackles for 20 days or more. In 1581 the pregnant Marjory Stewart, lady of Vayne, with others had had to flee to Red Castle in fear of their lives. The attackers blew up the gate with gunpowder, and Marjory miscarried.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDzhqSU74FY - Aerial view of red castle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdDRAGFxM8I - Aerial view of red castle when tide is low

James VI ordered John Erskine of Dun and his son Robert to bring siege engines and eject Gray, with the help of the townspeople of Dundee. Erskine was asked to make an inventory of the goods in the castle and give safe conduct for Elizabeth Beaton's son, the poet John Stewart of Baldynneis to the king's presence. In March 1582 Andrew Gray was forgiven for setting fire to the castle and its yards, and other crimes.

In 1590 it was reported that 12,000 gold crowns had been landed in the creek near the castle to aid the Catholic cause in Scotland. The castle slipped into decline, and, although it remained partially roofed until 1770, it was never again a residence of nobility. Its last inhabitant was the minister of Inverkeilor, one James Rait.

    Ruins of the keep

Red Castle stands on high ground overlooking Lunan Bay, on the North Sea coast. Immediately to the north of Red Castle is the mouth of the Lunan Water, with the hamlet of Lunan beyond. Only a part of the fifteenth century rectangular tower, and the 2-metre (6.6 ft) thick east curtain wall remain. The tower in particular is in precipitous condition, being perched on the edge of the hill above Lunan Bay, and was described as being "in imminent danger of collapse" in 1999. The remains are those of the 15th-century keep, and the surrounding wall, or enceinte, which may date from the 13th century. A midden below the castle is continually eroding, yielding a number of artefacts now in the Montrose Museum. The castle is protected as scheduled monument.

    Kinnaird Castle[not used]

Kinnaird Castle is a 15th-century castle near Brechin in Angus, Scotland. The castle has been home to the Carnegie family, the Earls of Southesk, for more than 600 years. It is a Category B listed building and the grounds are included in Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland.

    History

    14th century
Charters show a mansion had existed on the property.

    15th century
A castle was listed onsite in 1409, when the estate was granted to the Clan Carnegie. After the Battle of Brechin on 18 May 1452, the castle was burnt by Alexander Lindsay, 4th Earl of Crawford as Clan Carnegie had supported King James II of Scotland.

    17th century
In 1617, King James VI stayed at Kinnaird. Kings Charles I and Charles II also visited the castle. James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose spent 3 years at Kinnaird from 1629.

    18th century
During the winter of 1715, James Francis Edward Stuart (The Old Pretender) spent some time at the castle. As punishment for supporting the Jacobite rising of 1715, the estate was confiscated. The castle was transformed by the architect, James Playfair in 1791 into a large house.

    19th century
The castle returned to Clan Carnegie ownership in 1855 and was remodeled in Victorian baronial style.

    20th century
The castle burnt to the ground in 1921 and was rebuilt.

    Battle of Brechin
The Battle of Brechin was fought on 18 May 1452 during the reign of James II of Scotland, about two and a half miles north north east of Brechin. It has been regarded as part of the civil war during his reign between the king and an alliance of powerful noble families led by the Black Douglases, which as the king won was significant in the development of a relatively strong centralised monarchy in Scotland during the Late Middle Ages.

A royalist army formed by the Clan Gordon and Clan Ogilvy, led by Alexander Gordon, 1st Earl of Huntly, defeated the rebel Alexander Lindsay, 4th Earl of Crawford, a leading ally of the Black Douglases. Shortly after Crawford submitted to the king, leaving the Black Douglases more isolated, to be defeated at the Battle of Arkinholm in 1455.

However, it has been argued that it was a localised conflict in the north-east of Scotland, of only limited relevance to wider conflicts in Scotland as a whole in spite of the fact that the Gordons fought under the royal banner.

    William the Lion

William the Lion (Mediaeval Gaelic: Uilliam mac Eanric (i.e. William, son of Henry), sometimes styled William I, also known by the nickname Garbh, "the Rough", (c. 1142 – 4 December 1214) reigned as King of Scots from 1165 to 1214 (49 years). He had the second-longest reign in Scottish history before the Act of Union with England in 1707. James VI (reigned 1567–1625) would have the longest.

    Early life
William was born c. 1142, during the reign of his grandfather King David I of Scotland. His parents were the King's son Henry and Ada de Warenne. William was around 10 years old when his father died in 1152, making his elder brother Malcolm the heir apparent to their grandfather. From his father William inherited the Earldom of Northumbria. David I died the next year, and William became heir presumptive to the new king, Malcolm IV. In 1157, William lost the Earldom of Northumbria to Henry II of England.

    Reign
Malcolm IV did not live for long, and upon his death on 9 December 1165, at age 24, William ascended the throne. The new monarch was crowned on 24 December 1165. In contrast to his deeply religious, frail brother, William was powerfully built, redheaded, and headstrong. He was an effective monarch whose reign was marred by his ill-fated attempts to regain control of his paternal inheritance of Northumbria from the Anglo-Normans.

After his accession to the throne William spent some time at the court of Henry II, then, quarrelling with Henry, he arranged in 1168 the first definite treaty of alliance between France and Scotland. William was then a key player in the Revolt of 1173–74 against Henry II, which was led by Henry's sons with some short-lived assistance from Louis VII. In 1174, at the Battle of Alnwick, during a raid in support of the revolt, William recklessly charged the English troops himself, shouting, "Now we shall see which of us are good knights!" He was unhorsed and captured by Henry's troops led by Ranulf de Glanvill and taken in chains to Newcastle, then Northampton, and then transferred to Falaise in Normandy. Henry then sent an army to Scotland and occupied it. As ransom and to regain his kingdom, William had to acknowledge Henry as his feudal superior and agree to pay for the cost of the English army's occupation of Scotland by taxing the Scots. The cost was equal to 40,000 Scottish Merks (£26,000). The church of Scotland was also subjected to that of England. William acknowledged this by signing the Treaty of Falaise, and was then allowed to return to Scotland. In 1175 he swore fealty to Henry II at York Castle.

The humiliation of the Treaty of Falaise triggered a revolt in Galloway which lasted until 1186, and prompted construction of a castle at Dumfries. In 1179, meanwhile, William and his brother David personally led a force northwards into Easter Ross, establishing two further castles, north of the Beauly and Cromarty Firths; one on the Black Isle at Ederdour; and the other at Dunkeath, near the mouth of the Cromarty Firth opposite Cromarty. The aim was to discourage the Norse Earls of Orkney from expanding beyond Caithness.

A further rising in 1181 involved Donald Meic Uilleim, descendant of King Duncan II. Donald briefly took over Ross; not until his death (1187) was William able to reclaim Donald's stronghold of Inverness. Further royal expeditions were required in 1197 and 1202 to fully neutralise the Orcadian threat.

William also quarrelled with Pope Alexander III, and arose out of a double choice for the vacant bishopric of St Andrews. The king put forward his chaplain, Hugh, while the pope supported the archdeacon, John Scotus, who had been canonically elected. A hostile interchange followed, then after the death of Alexander in 1181 his successor, Lucius III, consented to a compromise by which Hugh got the bishopric and John became bishop of Dunkeld. In 1188 William secured a papal bull which declared that the Church of Scotland was directly subject only to Rome, thus rejecting the claims to supremacy put forward by the English archbishop.

The Treaty of Falaise remained in force for the next fifteen years. Then the English king Richard the Lionheart, needing money to take part in the Third Crusade, agreed to terminate it in return for 10,000 silver marks (£6,500), on 5 December 1189. William then was able to address the turbulent chiefs in the outlying parts of his kingdom. His authority was recognized in Galloway which, hitherto, had been practically independent; he put an end to a formidable insurrection in Moray and Inverness; and a series of campaigns brought the far north, Caithness and Sutherland, under the power of the crown.

William attempted to purchase Northumbria from Richard in 1194, as he had a strong claim over it. However, his offer of 15,000 marks (£9,750) was rejected due to wanting the castles within the lands, which Richard was not willing to give. In 1200, William did homage to Richard's successor John, apparently to save face.

Despite the Scots regaining their independence, Anglo-Scottish relations remained tense during the first decade of the 13th century. In August 1209 King John decided to flex the English muscles by marching a large army to Norham (near Berwick), in order to exploit the flagging leadership of the ageing Scottish monarch. As well as promising a large sum of money, the ailing William agreed to his elder daughters marrying English nobles and, when the treaty was renewed in 1212, John apparently gained the hand of William's only surviving legitimate son, and heir, Alexander, for his eldest daughter, Joan.

Despite continued dependence on English goodwill, William's reign showed much achievement. He threw himself into government with energy and diligently followed the lines laid down by his grandfather, David I. Anglo-French settlements and feudalization were extended, new burghs founded, criminal law clarified, the responsibilities of justices and sheriffs widened, and trade grew. Traditionally, William is credited with founding Arbroath Abbey, the site of the later Declaration of Arbroath. The bishopric of Argyll was established (c. 1192) in the same year as papal confirmation of the Scottish church by Pope Celestine III.

William died of natural causes in Stirling in 1214 and lies buried in Arbroath Abbey. His son, Alexander II, succeeded him as king, reigning from 1214 to 1249.

William was not known as "the Lion" during his own lifetime, and the title did not relate to his tenacious character or his military prowess. It was attached to him because of his flag or standard, a red lion rampant with a forked tail (queue fourchée) on a yellow background. This (with the substitution of a 'double tressure fleury counter-fleury' border instead of an orle) went on to become the Royal Banner of Scotland, still used today but quartered with those of England and of Ireland. It became attached to him because the chronicler John of Fordun called him the "Lion of Justice".

With the Scottish King trapped, the major cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow under siege and a determined army marching into the Glens it was obvious that the English Alliance had tipped the balance in their favour. Anselm, emboldened by these succeses, decided to write to Hew and offer him peace terms again. Equally a message was sent to the Welsh to keep Hew where he was and to not commence any attacks against him. Hew was worth nothing to him dead. The fate of Britannia hung in the balance.

The procession left the Edinburgh, with the body of Kyle Dunbar.
They are heading to Rome to ask the pope to canonise Kyle as a Saint and Saviour of Scotland, after he fell defending the second siege of Edinburgh by the English hordes.
They will also demand the pope to excommunicate the Templars at Aberdeen, as heretics and enemies of the faith.

The procession crossed the border into the Northern Shires and preached in the villages, speaking to the people of the shires of the actions of their leader, Lord Geoffrey, who derailed the initial rebellion of the shires, aimed at dethroning the oppressive Crown.
The pilgrims told the townsfolk of the crushing defeats of the English at the hands of Dunbar the Martyr.
They told the people that their countrymen are dying at the walls of Edinburgh, far from London, dying serving Lord Geoffrey, fighting the wrong enemy.

The peoples of the shires received the news with mixed feelings. Some were hostile but many were supportive...

The pilgrims feared nothing however, not even Waylander who was probably following close.
How can they be afraid when they are guarded by Saint Dunbar, the Saviour of Scotland!

The victories on the mainland overshadowed the events in Ireland.
    And those are major!
Prince Nectan, who was negotiating a ceasefire with the English, had refused to send reinforcements to the trapped Scottish King.
Nectan was hoping that the Welsh would storm the castle and finish Hew off, thus ending the war.

But the Welsh did not attack. Hew managed to get messages to the Scottish regiments who had survived the battles of the last winter.
The Welsh were caught off-guard as they thought a truce was being negotiated.
    They were crushed.

Hew immediately sent his royal guards to put Nectan under house arrest, under the suspicion of treason.

The duke took to bedrest, after the latest rounds of fights happening throughout lower scotland, his helm had been hit with a mace, and a ringing sound haunted his head, with occasional bleeding from his ears but the messages as ever were pushed to the head of the state of York and Newcastle, and letters began to buildup around his bedside to be read to the recovering Duke from his scribe. One thing of note, was the reinforcements from the south flooded ever forward, with the sergeant had announced in one letter that the army of the Duke would be ready after replenishment and new troop numbers to fight again in the next season.

From his bedside, the Duke whispered a message to be sent to the English King , after king hew's rescue attempt from his imprisonment in a irish fort against the welsh, in his frustration against the Scottish kings lack of diplomacy as opposed to his son, who at the very least would deal with the southern english in negotiations, but the older stubborn scottish king would not yield even a inch.

"Send a message to the english King....", whispered Duke Geoffrey ,who coughed a little taking a sip of beer to ease his throat, "...i have tried to deal with this scottish king...", Geoffrey paused to spit ,out into a nearby pan, blood congealed with the spittle, and more than a few teeth also were seen in the pan, testament to Geoffrey's efforts on the field, "...but to no avail...it was a mistake.......if we cant deal with the old, then we must ...with the new...to that end, Tell England, ....that Hew must die"

Geoffrey slumped back on the bed with the effort of speaking, his eyes closing , as the scribe read out more news, that the scottish had surrounded the templars at aberdeen, that Nicklous the scarred had perished at Castletown due to age, the list rumbled on , as the duke consciousness began to fade.

In the dukes minds-eye, he saw the 9,000 slaughtered this season on the scottish border , 4,500 englishmen and 4,500 scottish had equally perished in their attack, but at the least Kyle Dunbar had died, their best commander on the field, both sides were bleeding out their manpower, here and in ireland, but there was men still to spend yet, he mused, there was still a chance to push advantage in the south before the Scottish had time to form around another hero that could hold the south. The scribe stoodup finishing his role, and prepared to leave, when the weak duke grabbed his arm, pulling him down to his face , where he whispered to the scribes ear, "Send for Waylander.....promise him anything....There cannot be another Dunbar here....lest all our efforts were for nought."

The duke released the scribes arm , his eyes remaining closed, as his chest rose and fell with uneasy rhythm as he had fell into a unsettled healing sleep.

In Aberdeen , the garrison looked on grimly against the large Scottish army who had surrounded the walls, with a Scottish navy equally blocking all sea routes of supply and escape, leaving the city with little options. A letter asking the templar forces to surrender had been given , but there was no reply , as the people in the city looked for aid from outside from two sources. The first hope was from the south, where they had asked for aid, from the peoples of the duchy of York and Newcastle, and the other was the other half of the templar garrison who had sailed to the north last season hoping to force opportunities for sacking some of the weakly garrisoned scottish cities in the far northern regions. There was equally even a distance rumor of a english force, that had moved northwards from its attacks on the western side of scotland that might move to help them, but as yet, this was still but a distance rumor with no substance to reinforce that view.

The forces from the south arrived first, disembarking a small meager force of a bare 2 companies of troops , one archer company and another of foot, which would'nt change the inequality that aberdeen faced to secure the city, and it did'nt have enough forces to break though to the city, so the small force, dug itself in a defensive position , making it hard to shift, where it could race to help out if it could. The navy reinforcements from the south however engaged the Scottish blockading fleet, and after a few hours worth of battle the cannons from the english fleets prevailed, sending the Scottish navy reeling back to the north, freeing up the supply lanes for the city at the very least, relieving the hardships of the people within the city with the new deliveries of food from the sea.

Gordon the Boroundoun was a experienced scottish general, and he viewed the walls of Aberdeen with a interesting eye for he knew he outnumbered the garrison, the reinforcements from the south he discounted as being insufficient to worry about to change the course of the battle, but he was aware of the templar forces that had sailed northwards and there was a chance they would return...still he thought with his leadership, that he had enough forces to deal with them as well if they turned up. Time however would prove fickle , and the delay of the attack was making him uneasy. Letters had been forwarded to the defenders warning them they had no chance, but still the garrison refused to answer, and the townsfolk , still had'nt pushed the templar forces to depart..it was a worrying trend, that the templars had won over the local people so quickly.

A couple of days passed where Gordon still looked to the north for the templar remaining force to arrive, but it did not, but their templar warships did return on the second day and they seemed to signal something to the city, but no troops disembarked from the ships . Frustrated, angry at the delay, and wishing for a victory to give to the scottish king, he ordered the assault, and the scots, moved to the siege ladders they had prepared to storm the city.

Gordon wished to get onto the walls as quick as possible, picking his best assault companies out of his men to lead the assault, he himself would go in with the second wave of support companies in his bright red armour to follow and reinforce the first wave, for it was always better to have the commander on the scene of the main action to direct the last actions, to speedup the assault and recapture of the city, for he would be at the scene and make quick decisions to alter things as the situation changed.

The scots charged with the ladders, pushing them to walls all the while underfire from some meager bowmen on the walls, that killed a few score scots, in their advance to the walls, but the ladders had been placed and the scots first wave climbed them , fighting their way onto the walls, where fierce hand to hand combat ensued. Geoffrey adjusted his shield and lead the second wave,to bring another six companies of troops to the walls, at a brief jog but they were still underfire all the way from the bowfire.

Schlunk! a arrow struck Gordon in the leg breaking past the chain-mail, immediately stopping his advance, one arm grabbed the arrow , partly holding it, his mind in shock, his mind whirling, but he still had presence of mind, to push the attack forward.

"Onwards! Onwards to victory!", shouted Gordon waving his second wave troopers ever onwards, as most of the second wave companies continued onwards to the walls, as another arrow glanced off the Scottish commanders helmet, sending the commander reeling with the glancing shot, sending him to his knees.

"To the General", was the cry from some of the second wave troopers, as some scots moved to help their commander, placing their shield up to make a rough shieldwall to provide some defense.

"Him!...that one!..... kill him! bring down the knight in red!...Bring him down!", came a voice on the wind, as the templar archer captain on the walls, pointed at the distant kneeing scottish general,&with a bow in his hands, pointed at the grouping of men,and the archer company turned all their bows as one to focus on the small grouping of men.

Arrow after arrow pelted the shieldwall, with every now and then , a yell of pain , shock or death cry sounding out as another scotsman fell to the arrow barrage, which pelted the shieldwall, as its defences was slowly being peeled back like a onion, as one after another the scots shieldwall defenders were being removed of the defence of their general.

Meanwhile on the wall, a giant highlander who stood seven foot, tall, one Teàrlach MacCaibe swung his claymore with abandonment, the sword had been passed down from father to son, for years, in the service of his clan, and its weight and sharpness ensured it bit deep. In the press of the fight on the wall it was perhaps not the best of weapons to use, but nonetheless it was HIS weapon.

The fight was all around him as he edged to the towards the tower, pushing and hitting out when he could, until he pushed past the crowd, making his way into the clear stretch of wall finally nearing a tower position, seeing but three templar troopers before him with their white tabards showing the red cross highlighting the white cloth. They had but mere light mail beneath the tabard as armour, with light metal helms, two of them drew their swords and the other a axe, and moved towards him.

The first templar was over eager, with no shield he grabbed his sword in both hands, raising his sword overhead he charged the tall highlander, who swung the claymore [it needed two hands for striking/blocking] blocking the blow with a sideways swing, he held the templars sword up, then kicked out, throwing the templar back with such momentum from the blow, that he hit the rampants, and then toppled backwards, into the aperture where his balance failed him, and he toppled backwards over the wall with a scream. The second templar seeing the swiftness of his friends demise, took the path of caution , he removed his shield from his shoulder straps , and slowly he advanced, shield and sword in front of him.

Teàrlach swung his mighty claymore at the shield , blow after blow, keeping the templar at a distance, forcing the shield lower and lower eachtime , as the templar struggled to keep his defenses and keep himself in the fight. A sudden push came from behind hitting the highlander, as someones back hit him, a unknown person, and unforseen clash from the struggle between the other combatants that still raged behind him on the wall. The highlander losing his balance, took one step forward and fell forward losing his balance from the blow from behind, where-as the templar rose the shield higher thinking of blocking another blow, reduced his sight of the situation&his enemy, and didnt see the highlander topple forward onto his shield with his entire bodyweight.

The sudden weight hit the shield and the templar gripped the shield hard, not willing to lost it, was driven backwards ,toppling over with his shield to his front , ever present as the back of his head hit the stone wall floor knocking him unconscious. The highlander, recovered quickly, standing again, and grinned at the last templar , holding his two handed sword in one hand whilst beckoning the trooper forward with the other hand. The trooper bolted for the door to the tower behind him, and the highlander heard a cry from help to the scottish general's bodyguard on the field, scanning out over the battlefield he saw the dwindling shieldwall protecting the fallen general and knew he had to make a decision. Should he pursue the retreating trooper and keep the towerdoor open to get access for the rest of the men to the lowerlevels, or should help the general?

In the end, it was the situation at the wall, and the distance blood ties to the general that made his decision for him..as the battle at the wall was still inconclusive at the moment, as the templars were feeding more reinforcements into the wall defenses, so it would not fall yet , it would take some time to win on the wall yet,and the door would avail them little if the wall wasnt secure, where-as the Scottish general had blood ties with his clan. His decision made, the giant highlander, pushed his way back to a ladder, in the movement to the ladder, thumping a templar trooper in the face with his giant fist, knocking the unfortunate man off the wall, but finally he reached the ladder, he slid down it and ran towards the general, lifting him and moving him over his shoulder.

"Keep the men moving forward"...mumbled a weakened general, who had obviously received a arrow wound to his leg, and another now spouted from his shoulder.

Before the giant highlander could respond to his distant kin, there was the sounds of horn and drum ringing out on the field , as a large templar force appeared at the wood edge to the north, appearing as if one , stepping out from the trees into the plains before the city.

    ........

Templar master Alphonso looked at the attack which was in mid action, and knew his timing was perfect, he took the knee , kissed his sword, and gave blessings to God with a brief prayer, he then stood and turned to his brothers.

"Our timing seems to be God given! Strike now!, and send them to damnation and oblivion! Charge for God!, Charge for the Holy Trinity!, Charge for the people of Aberdeen!", he then hoisted his sword forward and pointed at the Scottish attack which was in progress, yelled and ran forward , sword in hand, with a roar, the rest of the templar brothers followed him.

    ..........

"rally the men! we can hold em" , whispered Donald, still stuck on the highlanders shoulder, as the templar attack smashed into the town militia who were covering the back of the scottish line. The impact shook the defensive line, and a fair part of the scottish militia, were felled in the initial charge, leaving great chunks of the scottish line pulled down, as the templars forced their way forward. A great groan was emitted from the scottish line, of effort, sadness and of pain.

Teàrlach had lived his life in battle , having fought all his lifetime in battle against one clan or another, and could read a battle as well as any, he sensed the scottish town militia wouldnt hold against the templar experience and fire of combat, and when they fell , the templars would fall on the rear of the scottish line, destroying the scottish army between a hammer and the anvil.

"push them on.." whispered the scottish general before his head slumped as he fell into unconsciousness.

Many of the Scottish troops now looked to the giant highlander, his obvious size and authority, leaving him a clear leader with his sheer presence on the field, a arrow whirled out striking the giant highlander in the arm, but the highlander paid it no mind, as others of his clan moved to cover him with shields.

"Tis dane ....Sund th' withdrawal...its time tae gang hame!" , he spoke to the others around him,and hearing the command ,a bagpipe began to play out its haunting tune , signalling a withdrawal, and some of the highlanders, took up a second rough line to shield the withdrawal ,as those scottish fighters began to disengage from the fight on the wall, as the templars forces with the city, & the dukes reinforcements turned their stance from defense to offence, as they moved forward to kill as many scottish as they could.

The giant Teàrlach moved away to the west taking giant steps with the unconscious general on his back, every now and then to look back as the scottish army began a fighting withdrawal , as the town militia rearguard began to break, the templar forces stormed forward and the highlander forces, prepared themself to hold as long as possible, to save as many scottish lifes , as the scottish attack collapsed.

There was another naval victory in the irish sea, as the navy of castletown fought with the scottish for domination of the northern irish waters, took a slight move to the duchy as the scot's fleet was sunk , clearing the waters again for the present.

Oops I forgot to include them in the screenshot. It was spies indeed. I also assassinated your assassin in Ireland so I'll have to add that screenshot as well. Will rectify it tonight. Sorry mate.

    EDIT: Screenshots altered

Well, if you want to play a RP HS, joining this one as Ireland is your best bet, as this is definitely the most RP HS in the hotseating community as of now

Ireland is still very much intact, it only lost 2 regions.

And the aim of this HS is, of course to win, but, more importantly to have fun role-playing, even it might weaken your chances of winning.

And sorry for the delay guys, will post it tonight.

Yea, the faction is relatively fine, and if you are interested in roleplay, thats your best shot. So I turn the faction back to human control for you?
