Thread: [Britannia Expansion - Custom Submod] The Isles of Chaos (Roleplay Hotseat)

Henry of Lancaster suffered in the heat within the council chambers in a poor state , against the many arguments that were happening with the various problems facing the northern shires and struggled to keep the northern shires together as each noble had differing ideas and objectives there were aiming for. Carlisle and Newcastle wanted protection against Scottish aggression , and some even in Newcastle prefered a offensive strategy against the rising power of Scotland. The people within Lancaster worried about the power of the Irish with their closeness to the Irish Sea , and the people of York were more worried about trade, and all these division seemed to come out in the discussions fractioning the unity of the northern shire landowners. The experimentation of the first parliament , and the resulting power changes bought around by Simon had helped the barons , get reasonable legal rights to the landowners from the king , but equally once this had been won , the various landowners went on their own way , exploiting the very people under their charge and without a centralising figure head of the king , most grabbed what power they could get away with for themselfs.

It was in this environment that Henry swam , and the other powers within the Northern Shires looked down on his stewardship , as being rather weak , and more landowners looked again back to the English throne , as at least the Devil they knew , rather than face subjugation from the scottish . But Henry had sensed the mood about his governance had changed, and discussions stopped when he entered rooms , and people grouped in the passageways of power looked up at his approach as old allies and neighbours , walked past him with heads held low, avoiding his glaze, and henry sensed he was losing grip on the powerbase he had created .

One diplomat had been murdered by scottish assassin but the other had made it though and lands had been returned to the english crown in lue of protections from the scottish, but it seemed to Herny that those of these estates had ceased to talk with the administration of the northern shires , looking now to the crown for help and security.

    {A exert from the great film "Cromwell" -1970 set in perhaps a different age, but equally shows the problems , that the people even when given powers to rule themselfs, want a figure head in the king " }

More and more people [from the rumours] looked to the English throne , for all their problems much to Henry's annoyance , for had'nt they rebelled from the king , to give themselfs more freedoms , and it seemed in this moment of crisis that most people , rejected doing anything about the issues , ever looking for a major personality to solve their own messes or to look to them , for salvation rather than doing anything about it themselfs.

By the end of the week , most of the council meeting had finished , and all the major landholders had withdrawn back to their own provinces, most of them with the disgust that nothing had been achieved. Henry's spies indeed told him , that many of the major landowners were making their own policies to protect themselfs , and he had no doubt , that there was agreements happening behind his back , as the fracture widened with the unity of the northern shires in this time of weakness...

Thus it was done. The regions of East Anglia and Cumberland were back under the Crown's authority. What hadn't been achieved by dozens of years of warfare had been done in a matter of months in the wake of an external threat yet Lewes was not satisfied with these turn of events. Yes the Crown had regained lost territories but at what cost? People expected to be protected from the Scots and Lewes didn't know if he would succeed in such an endeavor. With most of his forces still in the south of England Lewes would struggle to get troops to the north fast. An expeditionary force, under a young nobleman, Davy of Birmingham, was sent to the county of Cumberland to reinforce it against an eventual invasion. Though young, Davy had campaigned in northern Wales, serving in the army that had repelled Prince Flinn of Ireland and showing extroadenary bravery the capture of Caernarvon. For his services rendered he was awarded a position to lead the Northern defense force.

Through scheming the Crown could've gotten almost all its lost territories in the North but rather than indulge in this dishonourable behaviour, the Lord Protector opted to further strengthen his bonds with Henry, informing the Duke of Lancaster of his rebellious vassals' plans. A more ambitious man might've taken the offer and risks to unify most of England, in the process making an eternal enemy of the remaining barons. It seemed like it was as the old proverb says: "Loyalty is a dangerous foundation, it tends to wash away in a storm; Self-interest stands in any weather." (From Joe Abercrombie's Heroes) The Lord Protector had enough of those vassals already and desired none more. The English people needed a strong front if they were to repel the Scottish, this was Lewes' vision. The message the rebelious lords had sent him hadn't been made public knowledge. Lewes hadn't even considered showing the lords of England it for he knew that Geiles, the King-to-be, would have accepted the offer, never thinking of the consequences.

Geiles, rightful King of England, firstborn son of Edward I of England (first character I played in this hotseat)

Not only in the Northern Shires' were ambitious lords plotting to overthrow their lord, in the south it was very much the same, lewes thought. Many thought it time for Lewes to lay down his authority as Lord Protector and let Geiles ascend to the throne and take charge of the Kingdom. Others supported Lewes but were uneasy defying a rightful King's rights to rule. Then there was Geiles himself, a bomb waiting to explode. The young royal could burst into flame at any given moment, anger personified. Geiles spent his days in London yelling at everyone and anything in his frustration, defying Lewes' orders further decreasing the Lord Protector's influence and authority in the capital. As each day crept forward, Lewes lost supporters yet not all was lost yet. The one thing keeping them together was the aggression from the north. It was both a blessing and a curse. Most of the nobles still agreed that Lewes was the best choice to defeat the Scots, having much experience in warfare and the young son of Edward the First having none and a hothead like his father on top of that. The crushing defeat of Edward at Dublin had been the start of Englands decline in the first place and the people had not forgotten it. A calculated and trustworthy leader needed to lead them in these trying times. Thus ironically, the Scots were Englands saviour and its doom.

In the north a shadow crept over the border taking Scottish lives once more. Aelfgar was dead but a new menace had risen!

In Perth, capital of the Scottish Kingdom.
    ----------------------------

"So let me get this straight: the Barons decided to ally with the Crown, the same Crown they bled coin and flesh to get independence from, then they gave them Carlisle, the Northernmost town in the...Northern Shires, thus reducing their income, subjugating the townsfolk to the Crown's army and inviting the wolf to the slaughterhouse...all in the hope that the Crown would defend them against us??
We didn't even attack them and are even trading with the Shires!
Can someone explain what the hell happened in the mind of Lord henry??"

King Alexander was clearly flabbergasted, yet somehow amused at the turn of events.

The ceding of Carlisle to the Crown is a clear Cassus Belli for the Scots to enter English soil.

    And so it happened.

Scottish border troops attacked the fort, held by the Barons still, near Carlisle, thus officially entering into a state of war against the Northern Shires and the Crown.

The small castle was garrisoned by a few elite troops. But Scottish border workers, who know the area and supply the castle with corn, managed to sneak a few scotsmen into the gates.
The commando managed to slay the guards and open the gates for the bulk of the Scottish army to enter the castle and trample the surprised knights who were easily overcome.

The castle was quickly reinforced by Scottish elite troops, anticipating the approach of a massive English army from the West, fact which was made known to them by their Irish allies, providing the Scots with valuable information.

SORRY forgot to take a screenshot of the battle results, but it was a clear victory.

With the war officially starting, trade between the southern Scottish settlements and the Northern Shires ceased.
Moreover, Scottish ships blockaded the important port of Newcastle, further straining the dwindling financial health of the Shires.

And to make matters even worse, Scottish assassins, on their way back north to deal with the threat of a new English cutthroat roaming in the lands, used their time efficiently and eliminated a notable merchant of the Shires, thus reducing the revenues even more.
They also killed a Shires general in York.

In a matter of weeks, the Northern Shires, thanks to ill diplomacy, unpreparedness and Scottish swift actions, lost Carlisle to the Crown, lost elite troops in a border castle, lost all land trade with Scotland, all sea trade with Newcastle, lost merchant income and the command of a promising general.

"The next Barons meeting will surely be interesting", reflected Alexander, as he finished reading the reports...

The Winter of 1317Ad was a turbulent time for the northern shires , as firstly Henry of Lancaster was informed of rebellious elements within his own court and under advice from Lewes , the protector of England , he sent his own representatives to the meeting place to append the rebels within his midst. Sir Robert of Lancaster was apprehended in the struggle and confined to the dungeons at the Castle of Lancaster and under the rack , he gave up all his associates leading to several arrests and in some cases , several murders as Henry used violence to regain the reigns of the northern shires , as it was rocked from incident to incident.

Henry travelled back to Lancaster both to check on his standing within his own lands, and to secure the situation , amidst news that Carlisle , Norwich with their surrounding terrorities had been handed over to the crown , and they had rapidly responded with a army to secure the border. News equally had traveled fast however, and scotland who had formed a full steel armoured army on the border, moved swiftly taking the castle near Carlisle and had a merchant murdered near York in response , with another army forming on the border. Likewise scottish shipping blockaded Newcastle's Port, with a massive fleet restricting trade from the poor kingdom.

Henry knew when to move swifty when the realm was at threat , and quickly he wrote to Ireland , hoping to keep them out of the war , on either side, as the english joint forces moved to counter the scottish threat from the north , with their aggressive actions. Lord John de Warrene being the most experienced commander , and perhaps who had a good grasp of the english crowns generalship style was given command of the forces of York as they marched northwards , before camping due to the winter's snow , made travelling to difficult. Letters were exchanged between the english crown and the northern shires as both generals discussed how they wished to fight the campaign , with perhaps differing views at the start.

Forces from around Carlisle , some three companies of town militia , small in heart ,but still proud northern shires troops attacked the scottish forces still out in the open perhaps scoring a minor victory , despite , the scottish advances , as perhaps a important victory and event to spread within the shires, ever increasing morale in what appeared to be a developing struggle.

    England

News of an Northern Shires army marching towards Carlisle to join the defense of the county of Cumberland spread like wildfire through the Crown's lands even before Henry of Lancaster his message had reached Lewes. Displays of such comradery lifted the spirits of the English populace in such grim times. The Crown had answered the cry for help from their northern brothers and Henry had sent a former loyalist, John de Warenne to lead his forces. The choice of commander split the nobles of England in two. Some viewed it as Henry had intented to be interpretted, or so he said, as a man who knew the Crown's dealings and military structure. Others viewed it as an insult to the Crown to appoint a traitor to command the war party. Lewes had always had a distate for defectors, hunting them down when Edmund had still been King of England, yet Lewes had layed down his differences with Henry a long time ago so he would do it with de Warenne too. The Lord Protector wrote to his general of the north that a force of Northern Englishmen was to join him under the command of Lord John de Warenne and that they had to communicate their moves in defense against the Scots. Furthermore he told Davy of Birmingham that if reinforcements were needed they would be provided.

The Irish reiterated their defensive pact with Scotland and that if any invasion of Scotland should take place they would intervene on behalf of the Scots. Lewes answered that an offensive campaign against Scotland was not the Crown's plans saying that the English only wish was to repel the aggressive Scots who, in another letter, reinforced their desire for English blood. The Lord Protector, advised by his council, had altogether stopped reacting to these threats. Nothing good could come from this back and forth foulmouthing each other. Sometimes a reply would be sent when Lewes was in a violent drunken mood, the clerks too frightenend to face their Lord's wrath. This time however the Scottish taunts were met with silence.

A diplomat reached the city of Cardiff and began the process of the signing of the official peace treaty with the Welsh, with the already agreed upon terms. A Irish diplomat was seen near Chester. Soon the war between the Irish, Welsh and the English would be officially over.

Another one to add to my list. It had been too easy to eliminate my quarry in the middle of nowhere. Two less prying eyes to keep the Scots informed. Now to make myselfs scarce.

The eruption of the border conflict with the English realms have spurred the united Scottish clans into a frenzy.
For many years, Scotsmen have mainly fought the Norse invaders.

The English aggression and imperialism of the past could not have been dealt with due to the ongoing war of liberation.
But the time has come to bring justice to the numerous English aggression and arrogance towards the Scottish people.

But to the surprise of King Alexander and his merry men, the Northern Shires, who were also historically fighting against the Crown for the same reasons as the Scots, joined forces with them to fight off the Scots.

Alexander could not fathom the whole situation and is sorry to be dragged into a war against those Northerners with whom he thought he could come to a joint agreement for the same purpose

Alas, the Shires, under financial duress, sent all their capable fighting men to join the English army in Carlisle, to attack the Scottish army stationed in the border castle.

The Scots sent much needed reinforcements to the border as more clansmen took arms and joined the war effort.

A probably decisive battle might take place near Carlisle in the coming months.

Alexander was optimistic, but he rued the peace treaty signed by Ireland and Wales with the Crown.

He was happy that the Welsh got their independence, and will never forget the sacrifice King Llewelyn did for the Scottish people when they were badly outnumbered by the Norsemen near Perth and almost facing total annihilation. Llewelyn and his men showed up to save the day. This historical battle was the beginning of the Scottish Reconquista against the Norse settlers.

Yet Wales grows strong and prosperous, just like Ireland.

Alexander would love to see his fellow Allies' banners on the horizon. Alas, all he sees are endless units flying the three lions and the Shires version of it...

The scottish assassins have not yet found their English counterpart.

But during their night raids, in York, they infiltrated the Assassin's Guild to try and find some information.
Their quest was futile, as the two captives they kidnapped remained silent. Guild members were sworn by the oath of Omerta.

Frustrated, the Scots cutthroats disposed of the Shires agents, but made the effort to leave a piece of paper hanging from their severed necks with the following note:

"Men of the dark, died with the honour of the Oath"

Summer time bought little change to the battlefield around Carlisle as both sides held their positions as both sides cementing supply routes and prepared reinforcements to help in the struggle to come. Ireland had declared it would protect Scotland if it was invaded quoting its defensive alliance but would not contest , england and the northern shires rights to defend their own land against the aggression of the scots.

Henry sat back in Lancaster , reviewing , the Scottish Kings latest words, who was incredulous that the northern shires had mobilized their forces , to combat the scottish forces and prepared to quote his reply to his northern neighbour to the nearby scribe as both sat in the gardens , that Henries gardners had tended and kept well in the poor previous winter , which now bore fruit.

"You think to be "suprised" , and "can't fathom"the reasons why the northern shires had finally go to war? Well let me explain it to you ..in the manner of a child!", Henry sighed taking a sip from a goblet of nearby wine perhaps more annoyed at the scottish words than he presented, "Well after we objected to your royal princess and agents travelling within our lands, you assassinated firstly our agents, then our ambassadors , then our merchants and finally a general who was living peaceably in York whilst we were supposed to be at peace!....then after you invaded english lands , which were recently ours, who were fearing for their safety , you then blockaded the port of Newcastle.......and you wonder why we respond?"

Henry began to pace, his temper rising , and he took another gulp of wine , to cool the rising anger, and the scribe eyebrows arched slightly as he began to see his lords responce to the words of the scottish for it was always important to lay down the terms that men would die for.

"....and now we have it with Scottish troops as we feared, killing the men of our garrison within the castle near Carlisle. You want to know the reason we march? Its because you are a barbarian, sir! Civilized men of God do not act so to their neighbours !....At least neighbours they value! Now we may be men of a small kingdom , but we do not have any fear of barbarians!....that all people know , that when you murder innocent fathers, sons , or brothers, that you rile to anger ourselfs to make our mettle known!......and if given enough time , and standing to defend our homes, and defending our families , and being with Gods grace, shall we appear as giants in our vengeance, and defend our lands. We tell you now , you northern barbarians , you should seek refuge in those pagan heathlands , but there is nowhere where your crimes against God , will keep you without harm ! "

Henry slumped back into his chair , ending the work of the scribe who spent the last few moments adding some flowerly highlighting to the scroll that would be sent north, perhaps using some of those borderland folk , who would be perhaps the only ones that could be trusted to deliver the message for no englishmen was now safe near to the border, considering the clansmen views and practices on english prisoners.

    ---------

meanwhile on the western coastline , the western fleet of the northern shires spotted some pirate ships hoping to raid the western coastline whilst the northern shires main army was engaged in fortifying their camp , and protecting their supply lines . The pirate fleet was spotted and the western fleet set sail for what was to be its first action in defending the western coastline , bottling up the invading fleet in the morecambe bay and with their superior numbers and firepower , unleashed volley after volley and practiced their training in the field so to speak. The pirate ship took several volleys before the crew started to throw themselfs overboard as the rest of the fleet practiced their target practice and reduced the ship to kinder.

    Morecambe bay

[most of Morecambe Bay looking from East (bottom of photo) to West (top of photo). Barrow-in-Furness and Walney Island can be seen in the upper part of the photo and Lancaster and Morecambe are visible in the lower left-hand corner of the photo.]

The Greek geographer and astronomer Claudius Ptolemy (died c170 AD) referred in his writings to Morikambe eischusis as a location on Britain's west coast, lying between the Ribble and the Solway. Morecambe Bay is a large estuary in northwest England, just to the south of the Lake District National Park and it is the largest expanse of intertidal mudflats and sand in the United Kingdom, covering a total area of 310 km2 (120 sq mi).

The rivers Leven, Kent, Keer, Lune and Wyre drain into the Bay, with their various estuaries making a number of peninsulas within the bay. Much of the land around the bay is reclaimed, forming salt marshes used in agriculture. Morecambe Bay is also an important wildlife site, with abundant birdlife and varied marine habitats, and there is a bird observatory at Walney Island. The bay has rich cockle beds, which have been fished by locals for generations.

There are seven main islands in the bay, all to the north; Walney, Barrow, Sheep, Piel, Chapel, Foulney and Roa. Walney is substantially larger than the others, with its southern tip marking the north-western corner of the Bay. Sheep, Piel, Chapel and Foulney Islands are tidal and can be walked to at low tide with appropriate care. Local guidance should be sought if walking to Chapel or Piel islands as fast tides and quicksand can be extremely dangerous

There have been royally appointed local guides (holding the post of Queen's Guide to the Sands) for crossing the bay for centuries. This difficulty of crossing the bay added to the isolation of the land to its north which, due to the presence of the mountains of the Lake District, could only be reached by crossing these sands or by ferry.

Aldingham and Aldingham Castle [on the northern tip of the bay]

[view from St Cuthbert's church onto the bay]

Aldingham is a village and civil parish in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria, England. Historically in Lancashire, it is situated on the east coast of the Furness peninsula, facing into Morecambe Bay, the village was mentioned in the Domesday Book as a separate manor belonging to a local man named Ernulf. The name is thought to be from the Old English meaning 'home of the family or followers of Alda'. Local folklore has it that the village was once much larger—almost a mile in length—but was washed away by the tide.

From the early 12th century, Aldingham was the manorial seat of the Lords of Aldingham (later known as the manor of Muchland) and the sites of two early manor houses lie around a mile south of the present village. The first and most visible is Aldingham Motte, which was begun as a ringwork before 1102 by Roger the Poitevin and was later enlarged into a motte and bailey castle by the le Fleming family. It can still be clearly seen atop a sandy cliff overlooking Morecambe Bay. In 1127 a Michael le Fleming is recorded as being lord of Aldingham. A kinsman of Baldwin, Earl of Flanders, he was sent by King Rufus to take charge of the area around the village. The castle mound is nearly 100 feet (30 m) high and was about 100 feet (30 m) in diameter at the top.

A little further north, and now surrounded by Moat Farm is a rectilinear moat, which probably marks the site of a 13th-century hall. The site would have been abandoned when the Lords of Aldingham moved further inland to Gleaston in the 14th century. The manor of Aldingham passed to the Harringtons when Agnes, a descendant of Michael le Fleming, married Robert de Harrington. In 1340 Sir John de Harrington had the king's licence to enclose 300 acres (120 ha) of lands, woods and marsh into a park, almost certainly Gelaston.

    St Cuthbert's Church
At the centre of the present village, now on the shores of the bay, is St Cuthbert's Church. An inscription in Durham Cathedral gives the names of several places in the area, including Aldingham, where the body of Saint Cuthbert rested when the Angles were fleeing from the Danes. It is known that during his life, Cuthbert held lands around Cartmel on the neighbouring peninsula across the Leven Estuary, although it is not known if his possessions extended this far west.

The building dates from the mid-12th century, with extensions being made to the chancel in the 13th century, the addition of the tower in 1350 and extensive restoration taking place in the 19th century and again in 1932. In the eastern wall of the chancel is a hole about 5 inches (130 mm) by 3 inches (76 mm) that goes right through the wall: it is believed this would once have been a place for local lepers to view the church services without having to enter the building.

    Aldingham Castle

[showing the position of the current castle mote [at the bottom] as it disappears due to coastal erosion]

According to the Domesday Book (1086), prior to the Norman Conquest the Manor of Aldingham had been owned by Ernulf whose estates were centred on Amounderness (central Lancashire) but who also owned land in southern Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire. According to the survey his estates had been taken over by the Crown but no mention is made of the castle. Whilst fortifications weren't always listed in the Domesday Book, it is probable the structure dates from after the survey but before 1102 when the site was owned by Roger the Poitevin. He had been granted extensive estates in Lancashire and, due to existing trade and lines of communication across Morecambe Bay, he also received lands in Furness. It was probably he who built the first castle at Aldingham in the form of an earth and timber ringwork fortification.

Roger lost his English lands in 1102 when he rebelled hoping to depose Henry I of England in favour of Robert Curthose, Duke of Normandy. The revolt failed and the next reference we have to Aldingham is in 1127 when it was in the hands of Michael le Fleming, Lord of Aldingham. He converted the earlier ringwork into a motte-and-bailey although the defences remained in timber. Situated on top of a cliff overlooking Morecambe Bay, it occupied a commanding position and its tower would have been visible for miles around. The bailey was sighted to the north and north-east of the motte and was protected by a ditch (part of which still survives).

A rectangular moated site, known as Aldingham Grange, is found around 100 metres to the west of the castle and is believed to be from a thirteenth century fortified manor house built by the le Flemings as a replacement for the castle. Precisely why this new site was built is uncertain but it could reflect issues of coastal erosion with the motte. Certainly archaeological evidence suggests the motte was shored up with timber revetting but this work was never completed implying the decision was made to shift to the new site. It is possible Aldingham Grange already existed in one form or another - perhaps a water feature such as a fishpond or alternatively a livestock enclosure - so may have been a relatively inexpensive modification.

Regardless of whether the castle was replaced or simply augmented by whatever structure was built upon Aldingham Grange, the Lords of Aldingham abandoned the site completely in the fourteenth century when they moved their residence inshore to Gleaston Castle. This probably occurred around 1340 when Edward III granted Robert de Harrington, who had acquired the Lordship through marriage with the le Fleming family, a licence to enclosure a park there. Today only earthworks remain of both the motte and the moated site.

    England

With a swish of his goose feather Lewes signed the peace treaty and the smug face of the Irish ambassador showed clearly who was the victor. Losing the entirety of the Welsh holdings was a bitter drop to swallow and still stung with the English nobility and the Lord Protector not least. It had been the only way Lewes continuously said to himself though he constantly doubted if it had been the only way. Maybe if they had fought longer, maybe if they had this or this or this, the thoughts never stopped. In the end it's no use of crying over spilled milk, what's done was done and now England had to focus on other business. A wise man Lewes had known had told him that war only paves the way for peace, when everyone was weary of fighting they'd crawl towards the table to negotiate peace terms. They all did in the end.

Why do I keep doing this? Why do I do what I do? These were the questions I always asked myself after the job was done. How could I do what I do? Why do I keep doing what I do? Of course I already knew the answers to all the questions, having asked them myself from when I started in the black trade, when was it some thirty years ago. Why? Because I could. Because I can't do anything else. Because secretly I enjoyed doing it. A normal person would feel empathy and remorse if they looked at the lifeless body but not I, not in the slightest. Why not, wondering it not for the first time. I tried jusitfying it that I had done it so many times it no longer affected me but the thing was that it hadn't affected me the first time either. I am a monster I often said to myself but didn't really believe it. I cast a leering smile at my motionless counterpart. "Better you than me" I whispered. I chuckled as if I told some great joke. I stretched my strained muscles and watched as the sun was nearing the horizon. Time to get going before some angry Scotsman finds me and exacts revenge on me for killing his comrade. Such a ridiculous concept, comradery between liars, thiefs, sly agents of the shadow and killers. My chuckles were the only thing that was left to accompany the soul of the Scottish soul as it was dragged to Hell as I vanished in the lengthening shadows.

I would really love to read some RP from Ireland and Wales. Guys this is a RP HS after all.

There are many things happening on the diplomatic and political levels which can be put nicely into words...

Indeed, it should not be on the impossible high standards set by Paladinbob or even Turkafinwe.
Those guys are on another level for us mere mortals.

But some little bit of context and RP would be a nice addition.

You guys are right, much has happened these last couple of turns which would of been good for RP but work takes up most of my time and sadly the motivation to do the RP isn't there for me at the moment.

No worries. I prefer not reading RP than seeing you drop out. At least you are putting in the effort to deliver your turn, which I respect.

Thanks, I appreciate it. But I do learn from the better writers such as yourself.

It was a fine day, English merchant Alphonso of Durham was counting his profit he got by Welsh gold mines. He had some great business there. Yet everyone got panicked with the sound of explosion. His men were trying to dig deeper in the mine with newly discovered powder.
A man ran towards him and said that the explosion went wrong. Some men already died, and some stuck inside the mine.
It meant two things for Alphonso. Firstly lose of profit, secondly lose of mines which were granted access by Welsh.

The day after, there was a crowd of people who lost their husbands, fathers, friends in the explosion. Seeking justice from the English fraud.
Meanwhile Scottish envoy arrived alongside with the Scottish princess. Conversation came to the point of trade rights between Welsh and English. Especially such soon after the war. Scottish were unpleasant about the income that English having thanks to Welsh. Although that was a bit too far to speak in front of Welsh King, he was intending to honor the past.

The crowd quickly got controled by the militia, but this is heard. So the situation carried to the court. This was a perfect scenario for King to break or limit the trade rights that were giving to English. So, the court decided againts the English. Money has been paid to ones in grief, and a Welsh business man took control of the mines. And the whole situation caused the trade agreements to get on hold.
