The forum was down for many days, only now I could connect to play my turn.

In the Royal camp in Perth, where military drills are underway for fresh recruits...

"Sire, yet another humiliating defeat for the Crown. The Irish are gaining ground.
But the Welsh still have many defences in the area..."

The military messenger was talking fast, excited with the whole Irish invasion which took all by surprise.

"I have made my decision. Now the Council of Clans must vote on it".
Hew was calm and collected.

"The Clans will support you Sire. This will be historical!"
The advisor was sure of himself.

But Hew stopped him.
"The Clans will never forget the assassination attempt in my name on their beloved Alexander. And the most superstitious blame the plague on me, as punishment from God..."

"Well then, the plague is over. Your punishment is over. You paid for you sins...now we move forward..."
The advisor smiled as he delivered his advice.

Hew fell silent.
Then he stood up like an eagle, grabbed the advisor by the neck and...hugged him so tight he almost crushed his bones!

"You little fox hahaha!
Call the Council!"

Hew's roaring voice was well above the clattering of swords and shields, pikes and axes...

The light rains of the north petered down, bringing a tiring march to the northern shires armygroup, into a more annoying air as movement became differicult, as rain drenched mail and armour became heavy, tiresome and egregious to move in, the dirt roads turning to a morass of mud and water. Men kept their bow strings hidden away keeping them dry to the best of their care, as a castle emerged into view, hidden previously from the rain and slightly chilled air, which brought as ever a slight mist in the air, reducing the visibility. As the army of Lord Godwin lewes moved ever closer to the structure, he waved the rest of his men , to slow down their march, a fact, they were a little happy about, as the Scottish flag of the nearby castle flapped in the slight wind, came within sight.

A small party of Scottish nobles rode out of the nearby castle, as Lord Godwin waved his brother on, to escort the slow moving army group ever northwestwards as the scottish nobles and the english lord, glared at each other, each of their bodyguards with hands on their scabbarded swords, a mere breath away from drawing them, such was the ill will and trust between the two groups, but after a rough blunt discussion , Godwin turned his horse away , joining the column of troops in their tiring march. The scottish lords, argued between themselfs, obviously annoyed and mistrusting of the march of the northern shires army group within their territory , and both sides wondered whether hostilities would break out at any moment or not.

Waylander looked at the terrified man, as he bend him over backwards on the table, with a rough shove and the diplomat waved his hands about in abject terror , realizing the depth of his peril, as little had seen Waylander the slayer and survived. The diplomat had been travelling north , perhaps delivering a message from the current king , which waylander was interested in knowing the location of. Sweat lined the diplomats brow, as waylanders dagger, was thrust into his doublet coat, pushing inwards towards his skin, not penetrating the surface perhaps , but highlighting the urgency that waylander needed the information quickly , as the words, leaked out of the diplomats lips , revealing the kings position.

The assassin pulled the dagger back , putting it away and lifted the man , forward, upright, and brushed him a little, down , giving comforting words, telling he had done the right thing, slapping him on the shoulder, taking a step backwards and opened the door to the dwelling he had found for this meeting, indicating the man was free to leave to return to his family and friends, proving he told nobody of their meeting. The mans face first tight in fright, turned to disbelief, and then to relief, as he slowly moved to the door, took one last forelorn look to the assassin , before he bolted away .

The grey faced assassin watched the man go, running down across the farmfields, losing one of his rough leather shoes in the mud,but not recovering it, in his desperation to get away , back to find civilization to find safety. He would of course, reconsider the sudden feeling of being at deaths door, once he reached a town or city, using his rank to provide himself with security and then he would tell all to the nobles of men of rank, boasting his near run against the famous assassin ,probably embellishing the tale, making him much the hero. The assassin shrugged at such thoughts having little worry about such tales, for he didnt really care about a reputation he could neither profit from or control. He pulled back the winch loading mechanism of his small barreled crossbow locking the drawstring in place, before loading some of his handmade bolts into place. But the fact, he would warn the nobility that he was wanting to the know the location of the king, was another matter entirely. Looking up he saw the diplomat had reached the rough tree line at the end of the fields before he disappeared from sight.



Waylander sighed, he didnt really want to do what he had to do, as he saw little profit on it, but at least the man , would die with a smile on a face, thinking himself free, and that was perhaps the only gift the assassin would provide the man, before he started to jog across the fields in silent pursuit of the english diplomat.

England

England was having a deja-vu it seemed. Irish forces invading and forcing English dominance from Wales. Only then Wales had been a nation in exile while now it was a partner within the English sphere. People feared a repeat of history, Celtic forces penetrating deep into English territory. Even after almost a generation the fear and bloodshed was still fresh in the peoples' mind, especially in Chester. Marshal law was implemented to keep order in the flourishing city. Large amount of forces were put in the streets to enforce the law, with brute force if necessary. The recent defeats at the hands of Irish were not helping either to pacify the populace. Even in London there were those fearmongering, spreading the words of doom. In reality the English warmachine was only damaged but not destroyed, beaten back but not annihilated. It had been foolhardy to meet the Irish head-on where their naval supremacy gave them the advantage. Further inland they would face more challenges. And then there was the plague still ravaging Irish forces. A depressing start but nothing was decided yet.

The Irish are making preparations to leave Wales, for most part. Caernaevon will be kept under Irish crown for now, as Welsh tribute.

I’m tentatively interested in playing Ireland. How long are the turn cycles in this hs? How intricate is the rp?

Usually the turns go pretty fast with the current cast. The RP is very interwoven with the campaign, some factions do it more than others. The players for Ireland have always been a bit less on the RP side than say the Northern Shires' (Baron's Alliance) or England but in the first place this hotseat is about the RP rather than the gameplay. I would be glad to welcome you to the hotseat Aex.
