Default Repacing buildings that have foreign culture

When I capture a settlement which has buildings that are foreign to mine I tend to replace them over time with buildings of my own culture by destroying the "old"building. I do this process carefully so as to incur minimum happiness decreases.

Is this a good thing to do?

Sometimes it makes no difference other than the small amount of money you make from demolishing an otherwise worthless building. Some cultures cannot even use the same recruitment buildings and colonies of other factions. Be careful, though, because I'm saying this only from the perspective of playing as Hellenistic factions, most recently Koinon Hellenon. I have no idea how the mechanics of other factions work.

As for most infrastructure, though, it's something you will definitely want to keep, especially strategic fortifications, schools, temples, etc. Many of these help with public order and happiness levels.

Here's something that is very easy to do: Simply look at the building in your settlement browser and see if it offers any benefits. If your faction gets nothing from it, there won't be any pluses/minuses up at the top of the description window.

Aren't there things like hidden public order maluses due to wrong cultured common buildings ? (Having a barbarian school in a roman city etc.)

Nope, I don't think the culture of the building makes any difference whatsoever.

No, that was a mechanic in rtw, but mtw2 does not have that mechanic. The different cultures of buildings is just aesthetic.

Thanks for that clarification, I was playing as if those still existed.

On that note, has anyone found a guide on some of the hardcoded differences between the M2TW engine and RTW (such as these)? I've been looking around the internet but haven't had much luck.

You have any idea how expansive was a building on that time period ? it was huge.
