The arrival of the Lords Appellant army before the gathering of Royalist lords was evidence that this conflict was coming to a head. Even as they marched to do battle, their manifesto was being spread across the land of England, in the hopes of bringing new lords to their cause. In tow were the captured nobles, Lord Monmouth and Lord Tankerville. The forces seemed closely match, with greater numbers on the side of the Lords Appellant, while more cannon was on the side of the pro-Woodville army having gathered. The Duke of Clarence could only hope they could win the day before marching upon London.

"Shall there be negotiation, my lords?"

John Holland had caught up to the two commanders; his mother's brothers Gloucester and Clarence. Exeter's eldest son had to clear his throat before speaking up, perhaps fearing that he would not be heard.

Clarence gazes out at the gathering of soldiers, taking note of the banners present. They would surely be outnumbered if Tankerville and Monmouth had managed to join this gathering host.

I can only imagine that such negotiations would fail, Sir John. After all, the Woodvilles are puppeteers and seek to dominant all those of true noble blood.

    He glances over at Gloucester.

Negotiations may seem a bit wasted. What do you think, brother?

"We must try." Durham said "If we can avoid unnecessary deaths then it is our Christian duty to do so." When the Christians opposing them were Englishmen, anyway. Scots were a different story.

    ----

"There can be no negotiation with these scoundrels, it would be fruitless. We see before us on this field of battle the Queen's family, assembled to protect her. Let the cannons roar." Thomas Bourchier said with a hiss.

"They are our King's kin, my lord."

Holland's face contorted. Truly, he didn't even know why he was here. In his attempt to defend Percy he'd been dragged along into open rebellion against the crown.

"We should at least hear His Majesty's response to the manifesto, before we can consider them enemies of justice."

"We should negotiate, if we convince even one of the Lords gathered here to withdrawal from the battle it will give us an edge." Hastings begins, "And the Parly will give us time to arrange our battle lines and the troops time to rest from the march." As Hastings saw it there was little to be lost spending a few hours talking to the Lords gathered on the queens side.

"Dorset and Durham have the right of it." The Duke of Gloucester answered coolly. "We should at least try negotiating. I don't expect Bedford and his affinity will be very willing to simply stand down and accept our demands, but at least then none can dispute that we only turned to force of arms after exhausting the peaceful avenue of speech in our bid to realize our reasonable demands. If the worst should come to worst and they simply laugh in our faces or refuse to talk at all, we will only have wasted a few minutes, regardless."

"My brother was the King's kin as well. That didn't stop the Woodevilles from chopping off his head behind closed doors." Thomas said, gritting his teeth. "Though others were complicit in that murder as well."

John hesitated, and then kept his silence. Bourchier's grudge was a righteous one, for his father had allegedly been executed without just cause. Holland supposed that the grief and anger of Aumale's death might be directed on his own head, too, by virtue of his father's role in the execution of Aumerle. The Marquess of Dorset's tight grip on the reins made his knuckles turn white beneath the gauntlets.

"A small party should ride out under a flag of parley, and stop outside the range of their archers and ours. If they don't come to talk we can return and prepare to battle." Hastings says, "I propose Duke Gloucester, Duke Mowbary, Lord Neville, and myself be the ones to go." If the Queen attempted to have them killed under a flag of peace then there would still be those to lead the army.

Gloucester was better at speaking than Clarence was. He was in the same boat as Thomas Bourchier and wanted to just charge their lines, but at the same time, their own army needed to form up for battle. He glances back at their battle lines, seeing the cannon being lumbered into place, the infantry getting situated and the archers forming their lines. Time could be a blessing and a detriment, but at least, if a peaceful resolution is attempted, then the Lords Appellant could not say they didn't try to reason with the Woodville snakes.

Fine, we will attempt to parley with them with the Duke of Gloucester as the leader of said party. Our demands should be known to the realm by now, so we only need to press upon them.

And so, the Dukes of Gloucester & Norfolk, the Marquess of Montagu and the Earl of Northampton all ride forth under a flag of parley, stopping outside arrow range as Hastings had advised.

Salisbury and Kent ride forth under flag of parley. Ironically, both Greys had very similar badges, yet of very different origins: Salisbury had the white ragged staff of Warwick, wile Kent had the black ragged staff of Ruthyn. Thomas, dark-haired and dark-eyed, is wearing his Milanese suit of armor, covered by the elaborated coat of arms that was his: Grey, Neville, Monthermer, Despencer and de Clare, all quartered. Looking at the distant banners and liveries on the royal army, a very sizable part of it belonged to Salisbury alone. In fact, more less a third of it.

Richard of Gloucester, suited up in his own custom-fitted (to take his scoliosis into account) suit of plate, greeted the two Greys at the head of the rebel delegation. Behind him, banners in York blue-and-red bearing his white boar and - perhaps ironically, considering he was now technically in rebellion against his nephew - his motto of 'Loyaulte me lie' flew alongside his own brother's black ox, Mowbray's white lion, and various others. Blunt as ever, he would offer the two royalists only a cursory nod before launching into (short) speech.

"My lords of Winchester and Kent. I trust you have already received the list outlining our grievances before we both came to this field?"

As the army was ready and positioned for battle, Clarence would not be in his tent, but upon his horse, watching from the front at the parlay. A soldier tells him that Lord Berkeley wished to speak. With a gesture of his hand, the soldier motions for William to approach the Duke of Clarence as his remained upon his brother, who led the parlay.

What is it, my Lord Berkeley?

What is it, my Lord Berkeley?
William an old man struggled to get onto a horse, it took alittle more effort but he was able to get on unassisted. William was aging in years getting closer to his 60's, he had not much time left so he just spoke his mind.

Have you thought of what you are going to do after this war? You know once that pup comes to maturity woodville will be pulling the strings again.

Lord Norfolk rode with the other lords to parley. He had been for negotiations as well, so he was glad they were trying to solve this somewhat peacefully.

A ten year old John Talbot Jr wandered about the camp. Squire to the duke of Clarence he had some idea of what was going on, on the other hand he was a ten year old lad, in the spring of his life.. A sword on his hip and armored. He was to help his Lord in battle. John's first. John however was a Talbot, a proud fighting family. John's father was Red John, renowned and feared in Ireland due to his brutal nature... Little John's father's grandfather was the English Achilles... No words were needed to explain who he was. Naturally Small John, as he was sometimes referred too, had some big shoe's too fill. Perhaps that was why his father chose to ship him off to the Duke of Clarence, a good friend of Red John. They had both fought together, surely Red John thought Clarence was a good teacher if he was to trust his son with him?

While there were many squires at the camp Small John had a special relation with Richard Hastings. the two became squires to Clarence around the same time and had been together daily for two years by now. Training together, eating together, serving together. With Clarence being occupied John seeks out Richard Hastings "Perhaps we should spar Richard?" he asked, somewhat exited.

Richard was excited for the coming battle. He had long dreamed of the time he would fight in a war. It had been his goal since he was a child. As the second son he would not inherit his fathers estates so he dreamed of proving himself worthy in combat and winning lands of his own. It was how his father had been granted North Hampton and it was how he wanted to win his own lands. If he did he could prove himself as good as his father. He had only seen his father briefly a few times since the march although his brother Edward visited with some frequency. Father also seemed to be busy with some task or another talking to great Lords of the realm. Edward would take his fathers place, but Richard knew that he could prove himself more worthy then both and join the great peers of the realm himself. He was watching as his father left with a few other great lords of the realm when he heard a voice behind him. He turns to see John Talbot and smiles. The boy was a few years younger then he himself was, but he liked the boy. His father was apparently one of the Irish Lords Lord Clarence had been friends with. He wondered for a moment about going to Ireland. It was said land was granted all the time to those who proved themselves brave fighting the Irish.

His thoughts were interrupted by the younger boys question. Spar before a battle? It would not hurt to be on top form he supposed. He turns to a nearby rack of training swords used to drill soliders and practice sparing and pulls two out tossing one to John. "Ready?" He asks the younger boy getting into position.
