Why the heck is Europe divided into tiny little countries? I have always wondered how come Christianity is unable to unite at least a large part of the continent under one government. Is it because Europeans are way too 'tribalistic'?

I think its terrible you would make fun of a country just because of its size, everyone knows its not the size that counts but how you use it. Hey, vatican city is tiny too but the amount of influence they exert is...sizable. Unproportionately so, if your standard of measurment is geographic size.

Because christianity itself is not united religion. Also, there would have to be SOMEONE who makes the final call. And since all leaders couldn't be that one person in new unified Europe they do not want to unite completely.Originally Posted by jankren

Because once upon a time, during the imperialism vs. nationalism bout, nationalism pulled the longer straw. Don't worry, we're all returning to the bosom of Mother Europa.

Well, they did that a couple of times.
But large population groups always got exploited by those Kings so they always revolted in the end.
I don't think Europeans are more tribalistic than the rest of the world.Is it because Europeans are way too 'tribalistic'?
The only difference is: most of the rest of the world has it's borders drawn up by European imperialists rather than local populations.
How united were the native Americans before Europeans landed?
And how united were the African tribes?
btw: did Liechtenstein really became larger, or was it's area just better measured?
Making a country larger isn't that difficult: just dig up a border post and move it a few hundred meters.
I've seen a couple of guys do it in a Dutch TV show where they annexed a part of Germany to the Netherlands.

Well a large reason is due to the age of feudualism. While most of the little principalities united (of some level) in to France, Italy, etc. there are a few survivors. Now since that is a German nation establish 1712, I suspect that was because under the Holy Roman Empire, it was one of the hundred little states that rose as the Holy Roman Empire loses all their sovereignty. Even though Germany unified, this is one of the few survivors.

they were religiously at least unified under the pope until some guy thought demons were giving him constipation because the religion was bad and founded lutheranism.
Theoretically all of europe had to obey the pope as he had spiritual power over their souls, didnt you ever play medieval tw you should know this..

Liechenstein is pathetic, and odd. I say if your borders are less than 5 miles long, you don't get to be a country anymore. Liechenstein is the Europe's smallest country, barring the Vatican, and it's biggest producer of sausage skins and fake teeth. That's pathetic.
