    Count Siegfried of Talabecland heard the latest reports of the orks as they took the fight to central parts of the empire, which Talabecland being one of the main lands in the centre of the empire found disastrous , as the bad news came in one by one. Firstly Siegfried's son had been surrounded east of Ertburg on the border, in a reinforced position within a fort, by two and a three quarters full ork armies , and secondary a second wave of a additional three full army groups of orks followed behind not one season time behind them . Additionally the four army groups of orks broke across the river Stir , west of wurtbad , completing the massive joint attack , as Talabecland found itself at the mercy of ten ork army groups .



    Wissenburg was still recovering its mighty army groups sacrificed to defend Stirland , and valiantly retook Wurtbad but the news was little heard within Talabecland which panicked at the news of the mighty assault, and doubts began to flourish. Years previous the people of Talabecland , gave some of their land , to the league of Ostermark , keeping the hope alive that the chance of recapturing Ostermark lands, was a prospect , within reach for the future. Talabecland had been well sheltered from war then , and it was only when Ostermark suffered extreme pressure , that the men of Talabecland would respond [when i took over the faction]. Rapidly the men of Talabecland formed three armies securing the border with the gallant remains of the League of Ostermark leader, with his remaining army group. In the long months and years that followed , the men of Talebecland and Ostermark fought ork army after ork army finally going on the counterattack , securing ostermark cities only to find , more and more orks like the plague they were, moving to there front , only to be forced back. Three to four armies of ork's had been exterminated by the joint Talabecland and Ostermark armies but this had been done at a price , as the ork battle formations had pincered on the province of Stirland , almost extinguishing it from existence, and damaging the mighty province of Averland and forcing it onto the defensive.

    After defeating around four armies of orks [both talabecland and the league of ostermark] , the armies of both factions required repair and refit , with more recruits , with talabecland reduced to two armies , forcing them to retreat against the resurgent orks , and now with the orks reinforced in the east, and from the south [from the armies that attacked stirland] and from the additional armies attacking averland , Talabecland and Ostermark found itself facing ten armies of orks . The town of Volgen was offered to Stirland to keep their hope alive, just as the hope from Talabecland was fading , but there was always honour in keeping allies in the fight. Scouts reported that the second wave of orks from the east contained giants coerced into the ork armies but the news held little worry for the already distressed count , who could'nt see his way pass his own son's safety.



    With the son of Siegfried [with a full army group] being besieged in a fort on the border, Siegfried held a conference with the Ostland general , a representative of the emperor , and the League of Ostermark's leader knowing that they could bring 2.5 armies of Talabecland , 1.2 armies of Ostland and 1 army of Ostermark to bear on this battle, against the 2.75 ork armies that beseiged his son on the border but the wizards did there calculations and found that they would push back the orkish threat at 50% casualties[against the orks] only to find themeslf with less than half their armies groups left, which was sure to fall against the second wave of three full orkish armies , leaving Talabecland defenceless, and Ostland and Ostermark without any troops of note. Furthermore the Ostland general asked for permission for Ostland refugees to arrive from Wandergurt who were already crossing the river , and the count elect of Talabecland burst out in uncontrollable laughter in the meeting tent...a laughter that broke up the meeting , as the other generals were hastened away from the meeting , as the count was hastened away to be dosed with alchocol. Warnings were sent out to Wissenheim and the Reikland , with a personal warning to the emperor warning of the imminent collapse of the central front from the faster , more mobile , stronger and more numerous orks [this message was redrafted two times to make it look less like a total defeat , rather a withdrawnal much to the utter scared and defeatus first draft]

    Count Siegried ground his teeth on hearing the prediction knowing there was little to prevent the annihilation of his state and under advice from Ostermark , and remembering the advice of Averland , prepared defensive formations around the capital city , just to keep his forces alive for a little longer, for if Talabecland was broken [and even if it was'nt] , then the orks could infiltrate into any lands within the empire , with little to stop them. Nothing could be done about the destruction of one of Talabecland's full army groups , and little could be done to makeup for its loss , he didn't have the words about what would happen to his son. It took only thirty minutes for the great count , to ignore his advisors , grabbing his sword, and preparing to hurl himself into combat , to at least make the end of Talabecland was worth the song , dieing perhaps in the same battle as his own blood.

    The advisors and nobles tackled the middle aged count , and the doctors forced open his mouth , dosing him with extract of the poppy, leaving him slumped in the hands of his people , and they carried him back to his bed, within his chambers in the capital city of Talabheim , to fulfill the will of the people.

    When the scouts arrived in Count Marius' camp, at first he didn't believe their reports. According to them, a vast, unstoppable horde of Orcs had slipped around their lines, crossing the river north of Akendorf and placing themselves between the Count's army and Blackfire Pass. True, the Count could probably still slip his men through the gauntlet, but the could not outrun the Orcs for long, and to do so would mean fighting an impossible battle on ground of the enemy's choosing. The greenskins, dumb brutes though they might be, had outsmarted them. Count Marius gathered his men to address them.

    "Soldiers of Averland! Veterans of a hundred battles! My brothers in arms! I come before you now to order you to die. Please to not die immediately. Instead, please do so in a month or two. True, we cannot fight this army. But we MUST buy our brothers in Averland more time to prepare for the coming battle. Therefore, instead of fleeing, you shall attack. Not the army to our north, but the ones to our east! You shall strike deep into the heart of the enemy, slaughter their reinforcements, burn their fields, sack their cities, and lead them on a wild chase. Fight on ground of your choosing, and sell your lives dearly. Your County is depending on you."

    With that, Count Marius rode north past the Orcs, back to Averheim to prepare the defenses. The Armies of the Borderlands, meanwhile, abandoned their river fortress, and marches east. The first city to fall was Akendorf. A vast horde of Orcs had been encamped there, ready to follow their brethren over Blackfire Pass. Grenzdat cannons made short work of their gates, and the garrison was slaughtered.



    Next, the armies turned north. Another army of Orc reinforcements was following the river west towards Blackfire Pass. Being far behind the four armies making up the Orc vanguard, this force was not expecting resistance. Therefore when the found their path blocked by a glittering host of men, they were slow to put themselves in order. This army contained giants, something the men of Averland had yet to face. However, even a giant can be killed by faith, steel, and cannon fire. Soon the field belonged to Averland. By now the men were exhausted, and their scouts had reported that no more Orc forces lay ahead of them. Instead, the main horde of Orcs would likely turn back and strike them, buying Averland one or two more months.

    Lord Todbrigner looked on his ragged, exhausted army. "Dig in here men! Build the walls high and the trenches deep. The river will guard our flank, and the mountains the other. This is a good a place to die as any."



    Far to the southeast, at the own of Zerenes, a small garrison of Orcs was enjoying themselves throwing dice and swapping stories. When they heard the thundering of footsteps outside the walls they merely assumed it was more greenskins stopping by before going west. They heard a muffled voice come from the gatehouse. "Oy boyz! Open da gates for da boss!"

    They complied, and were immediately trampled by hundreds of men of Averland as the town was quickly overrun. The Averland general thanked and paid the spies as they quietly slipped back out of the gates. Ironically, he mused, the fall of Zerenes technically put the whole of the Border Princes in Imperial hands! Just not for long, he suspected.



    Meanwhile in the north, the town of Hornau was re-taken once more by the men of Averland, but was again abandoned in the face of the oncoming Greenskin hordes. The armies of Averland could not be spent so easily. There was a far greater war to come.

    Hochland had again proved the rock against what the armies of chaos had thrown themselfs against, as in the last season , the armies of chaos committed more and more troops pushing back against the hochland counterattack which devastated many of the chaotic troops , as the men of hochland threw themselfs in desperation against their foe , to keep them from their own lands. This time however the chaos reinforcements prevailed and broke the hochland defenders, and at great cost, they managed to receive a foothold, taking the town of Hergig.

    The Emperor himself knowing the depth of the crisis that faced his empire, called a conference of those count-elects with the troops to defend themselfs , and those that had strength to spare , and prepared to mount a counterattack against Chaos , knowing that their armies were perhaps nearing the end of their push , and he did'nt have strength enough to face the orks that raped and pillaged the southern and centre lands. All forces of the empire were to be committed against the forces of chaos to bring about perhaps the first unifed action , to bring down one of their foes, and stablize one of the fronts. Ostland had sacrificed ground and population to buy the empire time , and hochland , middleheim , nordland , had bled defending the north, and reikland has sacrificed more than a few field armies to reduce the numbers of their foes to weaken their offensive , and now the grounds had been laid to finally [if the Emperor protects] break the Chaos offensive to a containable level in the north.

    Count Aldebrand of Hochland looked at the Hordes of Chaos warriors that swarmed against the City of Kislev and knew that his surprise coastal assault [out of the ships] to support the City [held by ostland] was doomed to failure but his position on board the ships of hochland was limited as a talabecland fleet blocked the river , and prevented him from moving .Not being one to be unuseful , he scouted to his south , and found the ork's northern flank was barely held with some of their settlements garrisoned lightly , so he sent his spies to infiltrate the nearest ork settlement.

    This was the lightly defended town , so named "creeping death" , and the hochland spies infiltrated the trash heap of a settlement , and knowing that the massive ork iron gates to the city could'nt be lifted, by mere men , they laid exposives under the gates and waited for the army of knights commanded by the elderly count elect of Hochland to arrive.



    The orks were surprised at night on this seemingly quiet front , when a army of men , rose out of the dark , and a series massive explosions went off , as there giant iron gate , blew off its hinges up into the sky , in a blast of flame. Many of the orks had a look of complete misunderstanding as the mighty gate of iron , sailed into the nightsky and disappeared. Looking at each other blankly , they did'nt know or expect the laws of gravity , which pulled the mighty gate back to earth , crushing a fair portion of the garrison , and many orks died with words of "What da f** ----" before their gruff voices were silenced forever. The rest of the orc garrison stunned at the unfolding events , had little time to garrison the gates, as the army of Aldebrand rushed into the fray, with the knights at the front , riding in, lancers flashing forward, skewering orks as they charged into the ork settlement , sending some of the garrison fleeing in terror.

    The Count Elect of Ostland had heard the news that three armies of Chaos had struck at Wandergart, smashing the defences of the fortification protecting the town , and made little work of the token garrison of Wandergart itself. News from the south and the east was equally bad , with troops sent south , now beseiged in a fort, against overwhelming ork forces, in the sorely pressed Talabecland , and Chaos had returned to Kislev with a entire army of Chaos warriors , and against that armoured might , the forces of Hochland would break against it ,turning the relief army to the south. Here it was at last , Ostland had been forced back by repeated assaults from Erengrad on the river Lynsk back down through the Forest of Shadows and the misty steppe land of Ostland , back now against the the last unsieged city of Wurzen , with the remnants of his last two armies of Ostland which was against the river of Talabec.



    Valmir , looked over the dour men and women of his command , reading their mood , for what could be the last struggle to come. The men and women of Ostland , were a rare breed of people he thought, jealous and envious of the richer breadbasket lands of the Reikland , Stirland and Averland , their temperament had been shaped by the poorer , tougher , barrener lands of the northern frontier which was always facing hardship or battle. Ostlander's could be fierce friends and bitter foe's , their stubbornness at surviving in such conditions , made other empire lands , refer to them as "bullheaded" , stubborn and hard headed , but equally they could be cool headed in a crisis , practical , not given to air and graces but above all , they had been known as survivors. Valmir looked again at the men and women under his command , and could see some of them even now laugh over a meal they shared , saying at least this was better than gravel.This joke was a given amongst the other empire factions about the Ostlanders , as they were notoriously thrifty and known to eat anything in their will to survive, giving fantastic stories about the "Stone soup of Ostland" , this common joke in the Empire claims that Ostlanders make ‘stone soup’ with only one stone, for fear of wasting good rocks. While an exaggeration, it is true that Ostlanders are skilled in getting the most use out of what they have to work with and for being loath to throw anything away that might still be useful.

    Gathering all the troops of both armies in one place, Valmir the Count Elect of Ostland , told all the troops to gather round and hear his words . From his point of view, of the troops , they had suffered a bitter range of emotions , Fear at the strenght and might of the Chaos troops, Grief at the loss of home and health, there was perhaps no member of the army that had'nt suffered loss of family , or of home at one point in this struggle , and now perhaps a motivating force of Hate, which he was hoping to use for his own use. Ostland , perhaps had suffered the most at the hands of the armies of Chaos in perhaps losing all of its lands, and all that meant for the families , and people that had died or were under Chaos slavery.

    "People of Ostland! I could speak to you about honour and all that bilge , but i know like all of you ..such words are for the knights of reikland or others...... not for men and women of land like us poor sods....So i will spare you the flowery talk and speak plainly" , said Valmir his eyes seeking out the nearest of the crowd of troops, trying to read their resolve.

    "I could speak to you about words from the Emperor himself...... wishing us fortune in protecting the empire ...but again we don't need his words to defend our own!....for most of us have been doing such things all of our lives", said the raised words of Valmir , with some jeers and catcalls emanating from the crowd.

    "But let me speak plainly! We have been pushed back to the sea and there is nowhere to run to......and why should the men and women of Ostland run?......Our enemies now confidently advance on our last position to finish the job of extinguishing the people of Ostland from the Empire!......But we have had enough! ", the crowd simmered with a glimmer of hate and hope , shining in the eyes of many.

    "Farmers of Ostland, used to talk that the fields produce whatever has been planted! ......Well this year, we are going to plant Chaos Corpses ! .....It is time my brothers and sisters, to take back what is ours! Losses we have faced, Family we have lost ...But now! Now is the time to take it back! Every blow you strike , is a blow for fathers and mothers, sons and daughers!..... I want to hear you scream your hatred of these foul monsters that must die!", roared Valmir , with many of the crowd joining in . He stepped down from his elevated position , his back being struck from many a favorable strong armed blows , as he went amongst his people , talking fast , raising morale and belief that perhaps even he did'nt believe as he lied and raised their hope.

    "Every trooper will receive a double ration of vodka and food tonight! Eat hartely , for tommorow , we retake Wandergart, and break the armies of Chaos !", this perhaps raised the greatest of cheers , for there was'nt a man or women , that would refuse extra rations especially before a battle.

    Valmir looked at his troopers, seeing either the burning light of hope, or the light of hatred and death in their eyes, and he knew he had their loyalty and commitment for the battle ahead, he grinned knowing that little of his army would desert , this night , their natural toughness , at taking knocks and rolling right back , would be lent to him to be led one more time. But he had little time to waste, as he spoke to a Engineer colonel telling him what he wanted ..no needed, to be completed.

    Three days later, the Last armies of Ostland , marched onto the plains west of Wandergart , were the two massive armies of Chaos were deployed before them , slowly approaching his position. The three army of Chaos made mainly from Chosen knights of Slannish with numerous Daemonettes within its ranks stood aloof and seperate from the other two armies with Wandergart at its back. The Ostland armies were commanded in two blocks , the first commanded by Valmir himself and the other by his cousin , Leopold , the Grandmaster of the knights of the Bull as they prepared for their last battle.




    A slight mist blew across what was to be the battlefield , as the two massive Chaos armies advanced, jeered on by their generals , and Valmir looked to the engineer Colonel who shock his head, not ready for whatever he was planning. Minutes passed as the Chaos armies advanced , reaching perhaps maximum gun range, and some of those empire troops that had such firearms, began to use them at extreme range , content to harry and provoke the chaos armies foward and forward they came. One such Chaos trooper , stopped from his run , sensing something was wrong, smelt something on the air. Looking down , he touched some of the grass , finding it greasy and bought his hand to the aperture of his helm and smelt the grease. What was left of his nose , caught the hint of a toxic substance, and he parted the long grass with his axe, to see a smashed clay jug in the grass before he raised his head high to shout his voice in alarm , just as a massive volley of fire-arrows was launched all over the field.

    The oil soaked grass took flame, with little effort, engulfing a fair portion of the Chaos army aflame, and more than a few screamed as they wandered on the field trying to beat out the flame, but perhaps the most significant thing was that the chaos army was cut in two by the flames, that had erupted from the grasslands. Seeing the momentary panic in the ranks of the Chaos army , Valmir prepared to signal the advance on one portion of the Chaos army hoping to attack it whilst their enemy was weakened.



    "Advance you Whoresons! But leave me a few hundred to kill and you dogs can have the rest!" , he roared , and signaled the charge, as his men charged into battle, yelling shouts and screams and such was how the second battle of Wandergart began, against the stronger chaos warriors . The battle started well , with the discipline of the empire armies taking advantage of the fire and surprise, but the Ostlanders were filled with desperation , and hatred and it worked well in their craft of war,as swords and halberds cut down a fair proportion of the Chaos army for little loss, but the battle changed as the Chaos warriors from the second army surged across the fire divide, and with their armour aflame , they charged themselfves into battle, whilst still aflame , singing songs to their foul chaos god, and all fell into Chaos.

    After the battle , was finished the day was the ostlanders but at a cost, with fully half of the last of the Ostlander army had perished , but the two armies of Chaos retreated to the north, routing into the mists of the land to fight again another day , but this was perhaps the first test of battle as the leader of the third army of Slannish troops grinned at the two diminished armies of Ostland , seeing victory. But there was another surprise to be launched as a small battlegroup under Henry von Liebewitz, entered the empty settlement from the east, and struck the army of Slannites in the rear. In that apparent confusion , Leopold shouted out , their this was there moment , and leading his depleted army group [with valmir following behind] into the shocked Chaos army. This battle was certainly not easy , and it looked like the Ostlanders would lose , until the fierce Leopold , Grandmaster of the Bull Knights himself cut down the Chaos leaders mount , and the floored leader was attacked by many ostlanders forcing him to flee .

    On seeing the Chaos leader flee, the Chaos army of Slannish began to flag, and the Ostlanders , pressed the advantage, cutting hard into there enemy killing demons , and chaos warriors alike , until , some of the strange creatures likewise fled following their leader . The Ostlander's pursued them , chasing some of them ,all the way to the old Ostland fort, which lay to the north of Wandergart. There was a slight delay , whilst the warriors of Ostland took their rest and caught their breath back, whilst the last cannon company was brought forward, and then the assault on the fortress was resumed with the cannon shattering the forts defences and Chaos was expelled from the province of Wandergart.

    But the victory of Wandergart had come at great cost, Victorous the men and women of Ostland might be , but their was barely a company that had'nt been inflicted with severe loss and it spoke to the hatred and grit of the Ostland units, that they barely had a city guard company left, of perhaps five hundred troops left. Even the two ostland generals bodyguards, were down to a few companions that could be counted on one hand each , such had been the intensity of the fighting .

    Valmir looked at his glorious remnants , knowing that he would'nt see such hero's again in his lifetime and asked a scribe to send a message to the Emperor , saying that they had done , their duty this day, and warned him of the imminent loss at Kislev and the prospect of more Chaos armies to approach from the east, and that he should'nt ask anything of the Ostland people , for most of them had died, expelling Chaos from the South , and they had nothing left......

    War raged all around the Talabecland capital , and all around his land , clouds of thick black smoke , showed the burning of crops , fields and homesteads against the orkish waaaaagh that prevailed against the Talabecland garrisons. In the east, the orks sieged against Borkum [on the river owned by the league of ostermark] and the ostland fortification, built to delay the orkish assault , but the main threat was in the centre , where the orks burst into talabecland in full strength , sieging against Krugernheim with one force, whilst sieging Lieske with 2 armies [Lieske had been subordinated to the league in lue of them losing their base], and with 2 armies sieging Ertburg with another ork army protecting its flank , it was sure the front would collapse.





    But the emperor called a conference of all factions , asking them to focus on the chaos threat to the north, and so the Talabecland armies marched out , crossing the Talabec river and attacking the Chaos forces within and near Herzig but without artillery which was beseiged at Ertburg and Krugernheim , and spies this would be a hard task. One spy was within reach , but one alone could'nt open the gates, so the majority of Talabecland forces struck at the bridge to the east of Herzig, where the Chaos forces, had gathered

    In a flurry of fast paced attacks , they struck the chaos forces near the bridge , wearing down resistance , that separated hochland from the rest of the empire , and battering down , as much resistance , that chaos might mount for the future, before sieging Herzig with the help of the Hochland heir, hoping this was sufficient to pin down perhaps the last major force of Chaos that inhabitanted the northern province of the Empire.
