    With the death of Grimgor and the rumors of Archaon near arrival ,the emperor had decided that the Wolfs run river could'nt be held, and asked the allies armies to withdraw to a new defense line, both to provoke the chaos armies forward, where perhaps some might be picked off and isolated with greater numbers, lowered the capabilities of the chaos armies that had built up their forces at Wolfvenburg. On the other hand , if they didnt move , if they were waiting for the arrival of the everchosen, then it gave them some time and breathing room to act.

    It was in this spirit, that Count Siegfried found himself, as he saw armies of Reikland, Hochland and Middleheim start their withdraw all along the front, and he looked around for his own targets and things to resolve and the biggest one in his mind, was his own lands of Talabecland, and so to get more information he gave his own son, a mage and a couple of companies of mounted pistoliers to scout out the lands to the south , and use the mage to provide their main base with information of what was going on in the lands to the south.

    The counts son , Eric crossed the river, sending his own agents out ahead of his group as they went far and wide , narrowing down his areas of search, some reports noted that the forces of reikland had isolated some of the orcs in a settlement and had it undersiege in the southwest, but it looked like three damaged ork armies had been located south of the settlement of Ertburg ,after being beaten back ,they perhaps hoped to regroup there , as there was still a considerable garrison of orks in the old town.The mage reported back to the Talabecland command the situation in the south , and Count Siegfried consulted his advisors and after planning his move , sent out a army group[he only had two] under the command of the redoubtable commander, Johann von Kriglits who crossed the river by boat with his army, speeding his movement southwards to join with the counts son , and attack the ork remnants south of the town. The count himself would join the other two forces in time, but he first had to secure the situation in the garrison town making sure all was in order, before he left, making his march south a little delayed.



    Three days later , Johann met with the counts son , eric, and they prepared a sudden assault of the ork army, which was in a rough camp resting and regrouping after they had received a pounding elsewhere and the sudden assault , [mainly commanded by johann] took the stunned orks by surprise and with eric leading his riders around to the rear, Johann routed the camp, and Eric took his toil of the orks who routed and tried to escape as the pistoliers were in their element, chasing the large green creatures from horseback and shooting them in the back with their musket pistols.With the orks not recovered from their previous damage on the field , both in stamina and morale, they were eager to break rather than fight, and so empire casualties were light, and Eric learnt a fair amount of warcraft from the older general, johann ,who was eager to show the young lord, how things worked, content to have a nobleman who was eager to listen and learn for a change.The orks though were eager for help and those that survived the rout, moved near to the settlement of Ertburg hoping for some support if they were attacked form the sizable ork garrison that occupied the town.

    It was two days later , when the forces of Count Siegfried arrived to attack the left overs from the previous battle, the noises of battle filled the air, as the count and his armies engaged this small force, lured out much of the orkish garrison who were eager to wreck some humans after the losses they had been hit by. But Johann with the second army was ready for this to happen and marched his forces, to attack this force, when most of it had fully exiting the protections of the walls , and caught between the very rested first army of Talabecland and the army of johann , this garrison force was crushed between two fists . Some of the garrison that were cutoff could .....

    ......have joined the battle but seeing the slaughter and the rear guard of dwarfs that Johann had left, to block their way, as they nonchalantly tapped their axes to their shields happy about the approaching combat, the goblins thought better of it , retreating back , now a mere scratch force left to defend the town, as their comrades were being slaughtered in the field.

    Clearing the field of the dead orks a pyre was made, all the while , Count elect Siegfried pushed his men , hard now , knowing that time was ever slipping away , as his troops began siegeworks around some of the town of ERkburg, and with johann's army camping to the west of the town was happy at the situation,as the orks which by now where severely worried and depleted, wondered what was coming next, but they didnt have long to wait as the empire engineers arrived , delayed from bringing the cannons down from the ships, adding their last part of the deployment , Siegfried needed to take the town.

    The cannons were positioned into prepared defences and staked into position and the bombardment began , wrecking and destroying walls and buildings alike, as hour by hour the defenses of the town were reduced to so much rubble and kinderling . Three hours later, the walls a broken mess, the army of the Count stormed in, and dispatched the depressed and bewildered orks,from the face of the empire taking back the first part of Talabecland for themselfs, in part, a small part of defiance in the face of so much death they had faced.

    Now all that remained was the last of the three armies , and it had a sizable force still , Count Siegfried called for volunteers for this last effort and was gratified to see most of the his own men would still follow him one last time, in this closing season. The engineer company though was exhausted , and he allowed them to garrison for the town , with a few of his own troops[of those that didnt volunteer] and double marched those that could still move southeast, forming up in battle formation in defiance of the orkish line that had done the same.Both armies jeered against each other before the two groups clashed in the grip of hand to hand combat. The battle was in doubt as although the orks were bruised and blooded , with low morale, the counts men had double marched and fought two battles and were tiring .

    It was at this point in the battle, that Eric, the counts son arrived with his small group of pistoliers riders, returning from hunting retreating orks ,into the rear of the orkish line they rode, firing musket pistol after pistol [they had a few preloaded with each rider] until Eric called a cry of hatred and a rally cry of his homeland, as the riders, drew the light sabres and began to preform hit and run slashing attacks on the rear of the orkish lines. The orkish commander blooded from several muskets shots, fell in one of these hit and run attacks and the morale damage of his fall, broke the rest of the orks and goblins who began to pull away in fits and starts , as they deserted the battle fleeing the field, heading to the south. Eric grinned at the rout, unleashing his riders upon the retreating orks ,where they were sure to have their fill of kills ,as Eric raised his pistol blowing away the smoke that drifted up into the air, he remembered lessons from his youth, about the rewards from steel , faith and gunpowder.

    The league of ostermarks forces withdrew from the wolfs run river where the remainder of their last army was being planned to sacrifice themselfs as a speed bump against the chaos attack. With great relief in their count and their troops they retreat southwards joining the talabecland forces at Ertburg , where they await events.




    The men of Stirland send one army eastwards on the north bank of the river to support and meetup with talabecland forces as they hope to make a joint push to the southeast.

    So I'd just like to confirm that:

    1) Grimgor is actually dead (Heir Krakskulla is still titled "Heir")?
    2) The Orcs will now be controlled by AI?

    Are both of these statements true? They greatly affect how I'll play my turn so I just wanna double check. Thanks!

    While many claims that Grimgor's death was sure as hell, the fact that his weapon is missing and his body was never found still stands truth. However one thing is certain, the Greenskins received a major blow and now are in full disarray. With the Warboss presumed dead and his WAAAAGGGHHH focus down, all the smaller ork warbosses that want to "promote" themselves started infighting all over in the orkish territories, completely fracturing their united armies and "logistics". Many don't know, if fighting the humies worth the time instead of claiming the next great warboss title.
    In the case of Grimgor, if he truly lives, it will take a long time for him to recover and resurface to start another round of banging heads together. Moreover he would need to once more fight the other warbosses to reclaim his title. The Old World can finally allow a small "sigh" for itself now that the great Green Tide is collapsing on itself.



    The ork faction is now under ai control and they are no longer considered a "player" faction for the rules so manual battles allowed and agent rules doesn't apply againts the orks.

    Count Valmir sweated in the heat of the day, wiping his brow with his cuff, and looked at his companion generals ,all who sweated in their own armour in the sudden turn of weather , as they stood over the rough wooden table with a map of the region . There two armies were positioned around the town of Borkum on the river Talec ,both armies of Ostland were looking for a new place of operation and scouts had been sent out, via land and sea route looking for viable targets to asail whilst the orks were in disarray.



    The first topic of conversation was the position of Archaon and his battlegroup ,spies reported his battlegroup had passed the town of Emsk , moving westwards still towards the chaos armies gathering around Wolfvenburg ,generals grimaced at the sight of so much Chaos strength at the city , with various demon princeswith their retinues, and they had no answer to its mounting power and numbers that congregated in that area. But the gazes had now to look to what they could do , rather than what they could not, and looking at the nearby town controlled by beastmen ,or the old League of Ostermark town of Bechafen currently controlled by the Orks and discussed the merits or problems of attacking either position.

    Leopold von Raukov , argued that a sudden strike with both armies could take the beastmans settlement and provide a suitable attack point to perhaps mount a attack on Kislev, a city that still had Count Vilmar's eye, were perhaps the men of ostland could remake their holdings and accommodate all those ostlanders refugees who wandered in search of safety and a new home. But other generals , including Valmirs son argued that the beastmen were a tough group ,well established in the region and it would cost them much to dig them out from their fortifications, lessening their strike power. Others like Ricco the mercenary general preferred to strike at Bechafen , where the orkish strength was light, but scouts had reported a orkish battlegroup to the south with artillery , and although it lacked a orkish warlord of substance, it could prove a threat to the city if taken,so the operation was of a certain risk. The arguments at the table continued for most of the day, and even Valmir began to lose interest , as the generals formed into camps , as they slowly began to favour a strike at Bechafen ,when one of the scouts [sent down the river to the east] returned with a tale that at a small orkish controlled town which had been captured by Hochland, called "creeping death" , was where Count Aldebrand was besieged by two strong orkish armies with black orks and Big un's bringing a new venture
    .

    Generals regathered around the map, using dividers to ascertain whether the ostland battlegroups could actually reach the besieged town this season, and with the added complication of allied naval vessels [and a orkish fleet at Bechafen] they couldnt sail southeast using the favourable river ,& they would only sail a 1/3 of the route and have to march the rest. After half a hour of study , they found that only Ricco's goldern clad mercenary group had the positioning to make the march and the accompanying two dwarfven companies after consultation with their dwarfven leaders who promptly said

    "I dae'know wether you humies could keep up, But we def'ne can make the march , and more besides!" , other dwarfs commented as long as they had beer in their supplies , they would be able to march the distance easily.

    It was perhaps a leap in the dark to send just one force, and then to send the other to attack Bechafen , but in times when the empire was in danger, Valmir announced they must do their best, to advance the empires cause, and Hochlands leader was perhaps a important part of that future ,besides it was important to keep those ork numbers down to advance the empire whilst danger was building on the northeastern area of the empire. It was decided that Valmir would lead the expedition to relieve Hochland troops if it was indeed possible as it was two large and very worrying strong ork armies whilst the grandmaster of the bull would advance and take Bechafen.

    Most of the fleet was allocated to Valmir who snuffled a yawn perhaps more worried about another damned river trip, but the journey was short enough , and soon after disembarkation, whilst was done at a swift pace , as those goldern clad mercenaries were very efficient in their tasks. Within the day the battlegroup of mercs and dwarfs had made the imperial road, and were marching up at a far pace to the east to the beleaguered town.

    Just before nightfall , Valmir's battlegroup began to encamp when the scouts returned saying that the orkish battlegroups were within a few hours march, and still had not learnt of the Counts&his armies movements. Valmir decided to use the surprise ,alerted the troops to finish-up the merest of camps, then he marched with his full strength during the darkness to hit the orks whilst he had the advantage, and the poor scouts were again sent out to again both to highlight the route of the army and to see if they could break the siegelines to warn Count Aldebrand that allies were marching to his aid.

    Two hours later, during the light of the moon , the columns of Valmirs force, were being lead by the dwarfven companies at the van, using their venerable eyes to see better in the dark , fell upon Onedda Ork Clan who were relaxing in their siege positions with battlecries and axes. Dwarfven axes shone bright in the night, dripping with orkish ichor as they swung left and right cutting down the hobgoblin mercenary guard, and they pushed thorough the hobgoblins fully into a company of black ork's , who were roused to action. Valmir ordered his main forces to storm into the camp, keeping back a small reserve troop , as the golden mercenaries moved quickly , to reinforce the dwarfs who were pushing too far ahead to be effectively be reinforced. But the situation resolved itself as the black orks and black ork destroyers started to force, the dwarfs to withdraw slightly as they backed away from their strength.

    It was at this point in the battle when Count Aldebrand ,who either had been warned of the situation or read the battlefield, sallied a small force out of the town of "creeping death" with a large force of skirmishers keeping the other clan pinned down and confused, and then sent another small force out to hit the Onedda clan from the siegelines, further causing confusion and casualties for the orkish clan.




    Onedda saw the golden line of mercenaries linking shield and advancing on his orkline of battle as the two sides fought it out but the humies were standing strong even against the black orks who barrelled into the formed golden line, but the mercenaries worked as a well worked team, with several men joining their shields together to deflect even the fiercest black orkish blow and the returning punishing stabs of the mercs slowly and grimly wore down even the mightiest opponent , as there golden line ,advanced slowly like a saw line of teeth ,slowly cutting its way through some tough wood.

    "Get ma' guard on me!" , cried Onedda , the great ork warlord waved his battleaxe in the air as he shouted, calling back his Black Ork destroyers back to his side ,forming a rough battlegroup independent of the battlelines, "Lets hit da humie in da arse and ..Stompa ..Stompa!" , he shouted as he moved the force wide to the left of the combat , moving to flank the ostland fighting ranks.

    "My Children! " , cried out the old Ostlander leader as he lifted his Runesword high into the air,the runes flickered with power and the merest lighting runup and down the blade, "With me!....To glory!" , Valmir moved the last reserves of Ricco's merc's to intercept the orkish leader. The two companies of golden clad mercenaries formed up with Count elect, blocking the route of flanking orks as halberds swept down forming a rough halberd line of spikes into which the Blackorks ran. It was perhaps in this moment that the battle result was held in the balance, as giant Black Ork destroyers tried to breach the disciplined merc lines, to break past those painful halberd stabs and smash the humies to pieces or whether the tough mercenaries would hold their ground. Orkish battlecries were interspersed with human screams of pain, grunts of effort, and cries of for Sigmars strength filled the air, as Orkish battleaxes swung, trying to sweep away the tides of halberds that blocked the orks path to victory. Halberder's massed in formation stabbed high , and stabbed low ,others were just positioned like pikes , just holding the ground, as mercenaries sung specific songs of war, relative to their companies history. Other mercenaries companies had major problems as orks broke into the ranks, and chaos ensured as scattered men lay prone only to rise again to hold the line, remake the lines , keeping the orkish war effort just at bay. Count Valmir was everywhere it seemed, his blade, darting out with rapid slashes his age and back pains forgotten in the turmoil, his blade didnt bring death, but distracted orks just enough, as his horse danced around, so that those parts of the battle where the orks had seemly broken ,had time to reform the line.

    Time slowed and ten minutes seemed like hours, as blades whirled, halberder points bought orks down low, and blood ran freely on all sides,all efforts were caught up their own private war, until the sound of horns blowing in the wind echo'd from the siegelines as the Hochland troops had reinforced their efforts ,broken the ork spearmen lines,&began the flank the orkish lines. Onedda knew a losing battle when he saw one, yelled out a orkish scream , whirling in place and began to beat a rapid retreat to the east, fleeing with all his speed. With the retreat of their leader, and the flanking hochlander troops , orks began to leave the battle ,more as a individual choice rather than an collective effort or at least those that hadnt been surrounded. Soon the trickle became a flood, as the orkish line broke and all that remained began to run [if they could] , picking up the trail of their leader, as he fled east to Fortenhalf far to the east and south.

    As Orks turned and ran, the human and dwarfs took their share of blood and vengeance, striking at orkish legs and bringing low, those already wounded in action, or those too tired to flee, and bloodletting began all over again, other orks surrounded by hochland and ostland troops were swiftly felled in small pockets of the battlefield ,were extinguished in a swarm of blows. Blood stained dwarfs stood atop of felled Black orks taking small trophies of battle , boasting to their comrades as tales of battle grew longer in the telling, As Time moved on and exhaustion hit the men, both forces of Hochland and Ostland retreated back to their camps for the remainder of the night, to take stock of the butchers bill.

    The second battle of Creeping death was perhaps started from the forces of Hochland ,who using the break in the siegelines sneaked out some of their fresher troops in the morning , to flank the second orkish camp. These troops were well equipment with engineers, diggers and began to dig their own trenches to the north of the orkish position. With the return of the ostland forces at midday after a boost of a hearty lunch and alcohol portion to ease those aching bones and muscles ,it appeared the orkish force were now surrounded , as the siegers became the sieged.

    Ironskulla was not a ork warlord of great renown , in fact his only great accomplishment was what he called the "Ironskulla charge" where he put his iron capped skullcap down and charged the enemy with his clan to crush goblins and other small folk. Finding his position surrounded , his ally routed and being struck with musket fire from all sides , fright'ned and confused the great ork , it took at least a hour of skirmishing fire before the ork managed to collect himself, to order a great ironskulla charge on his opponent , right into the waiting ranks of the golden mercenary lines and hochland spears ,to the total destruction of his army. He lived though the charge thou breaking the human line with a few followers following in his wake , but with little regard to the rest of his dying clan he fled to the nearby city of Bechafen to the southeast which was sure to be a safe position , he thought.

    With victory obtained, the two old count elects met with a rough hand shake, much to the cheer of the empire troops, for indeed there had been little to cheer about in these days, and the two old men withdrew to Count Aldebrand's tent to retell old stories, and to enjoy copious amounts of alcohol to keep the pain of old limbs at bay.

    The Siege of Bechafen was perhaps a brief affair, as the rather ruthless Grandmaster of the Bull, Leopold von Raukov , set a advance position with his engineer company who dug a nice fortified position for the artillery company ,which was then protected by five companies of dwarfven warriors ,who took great delight in making their own fortifications to protect the guns . The dwarfs ,dug in , shouting insults to their foes of old. Insults and gestures and even a few bodily postures were exchanged between these bitterest of foes, as the cannons slowly and efficiently did their brutal work of reducing walls ,gates and rough defensive position into rubble.

    It was perhaps a smart thing to have the dwarfs at the front, as the orks seemed to lose their senses at their close proximity , some seemingly frothing at the mouth, at their very presence , barely restraining themselfs against the insults the dwarfs sent them from their close defensive lines. The orks however ,were without much of a command structure..but luckily for them [or not] Ironskulla warchief had arrived blooded by recent wounds and took over the command of a respectful size of garrison orks positioned here and equally the remnants that had been pushed back into the city from various defeats . After the walls and defences were destroyed , many orks worried what to do , whether to stay and use what they could to defend or to sally out? But Ironskulla announced to all orks in the city, that he had a special tactic that had never failed [ignoring the shaking heads of the remnants of his own clansmen] that the Ironskulla charge had always worked for him.

    The dwarfs were bemused at the sudden orkish charge, quite a few orks fell to cannon fire, with shot fired squarely into the charging outs funneling out from the wall breach , bringing a great carnage of orkish limbs and bodyparts , that were shredded by the iron balls of the shot , before the gun crew retreated. The remaining orks hurled themselfs at the dwarfish position ,who took great glee at cutting down their opponents. Indeed the dwarfs were in such fine fettle that they started a competition ,with a few barrels of Gutbuster beer for the dwarf that took the greatest number of orkish heads in the engagement.

    There was clearly annoyance from the Dwarfs when the Grandmaster of the Bull unleashed his cavalry supported by empire pistoliers and following infantry charge on the orkish flank , stopping all orkish resistance , as Ironskulla and his forces were charged down, and chopped into small pieces ending the siege as the empire took control of the city. As a forenote, it was forever written into the dwarfish annuals however ,that Tholaik Farforce celebrated his forty orkish heads and the rest of the 4th dwarfish company of Wolfenburg regulars watched the dwarf drink himself into insensibility with those two barrels of Gutbuster beer that night [although Tholaik would depute to all that heard, that he was ever drunk}.

    Talabecland looked eastwards to push against the orkish limits of expansion and the chance to regain perhaps some of their lost territory, but for two unfortunate events they would have done so. Firstly there was a loose army to the east, between Ertburg and Bechafen , and they alerted the forces of ostland to the northeast to this fact, and the other was the ostland town of Grunwald [previously a talabecland town , the men of talac noted] had rebelled and kicked out the ostland garrison.

    The men of Talac leapt at this chance to regain one of their own towns, and a force was sent northward with a capable commander , to recapture the town and bring it under the command of the empire, under [cough cough] talac command and with this action ongoing there was no eagerness to move eastwards with one army , with a ork army nearby with its own artillery.

    The army of the league of Ostermark was down to 3/4 of a full strength army and hung nearby the town of Ertburg near to the main command of the Talabecland army , hoping beyond hope to perhaps regain some of their holdings in the far east.




    The men of Stirland as promised marched eastwards close to the river, pushing forward towards the city of Krugenheim , unfortunately for them the orks had recruited more strength during the season, neglecting the chance of a swift siege with stirland spies opening the gates, and so the army of stirland surrounded the city and settled down to building siege engines , preparing for a long siege. Whilst this was happening the stirland spy network moved eastwards highlighting the orkish defenses and the averland advance up from the southeast, to further help coordinate the advances of the empires forces to plan and think out their next moves.

    Victory after victory rings out as the armies of Averland march ever onwards. Countless battlefields are dyed red with the blood of Orks, too many to count. And yet still the fight goes ever on...
