August 9 – The Sistine Chapel opens in the Apostolic Palace in Rome.
August 30 - Louis XI le prudent dies at the age of 60. He is succeeded by his son Charles, the dauphin, who becomes Charles VIII. His elder sister, Anne of Beaujeu, shall act as regent with her husband, the Duke of Bourbon.
