Icon11 Just want to say thank you

What an absolutely fantastic mod. I first discovered this mod years ago and I wanted to play it so bad, unfortunately on my part I didn't listen to your guys' instructions at all about installation and it pooped on me every time. But just yesterday I FINALLY got it to work, no crashes yet on my Getai campaign 30 turns in. I love this mod so much. I thought EB1 was good, but OMG this blows it out of the park. you sirs, deserve a cookie and keep up the good work. really looking forward to what this game will become.

I'd like to thank the EB II team for the creation and modelling of the Hellenistic kataphractoi alone, bringing them to life, let alone all the other amazing things they've done.

Gottaa join on the praise too! Literally the best mod ive ever played for any game, and it is certainly my favorite strategy pass time, and well, history too!

On my religious culture subject in my university (which i thought would be the most boring thing ever), the teacher went around having us do some presentations on different religions... and voila my group went with the religion of the ancient celts. The research i did? Go to the europa barbarorum bibliography, check for the books, and landed on Ancient celts barry cunliffe. Amazing book!

Pretty much all of the books ive read on this period is because of europa barbarorum peaking my interest. Last campaign i did with Epeiros was so immersive that i got pyrrhus of epirus by jeff champion (which made the campaign even better). Now i got another planned, thundering zeus by frank holt... because my latest campaign, as baktria, was so freaking awesome.
Then, as throngs of his enemies bore down upon him and one of his followers said, "They are making at thee, O King," "Who else, pray," said Antigonus, "should be their mark? But Demetrius will come to my aid." This was his hope to the last, and to the last he kept watching eagerly for his son; then a whole cloud of javelins were let fly at him and he fell.

does that The Ancient Celts book touch much on continental celts, or does it focus mostly on british celts? i have a handful of similar texts, but they so quickly skim over the continental celtic cultures it disappoints me. i should probably be looking for archaeological texts looking at la tene/hallstadt

oh yeah, i havent finished it yet but it has much more on the continental celts than on britain, a lot about la tene, hallstatt, a chapter on the celtiberians, etc.

The first Europa Barbarorum for RTW was the first mod I ever got to work on my computer, seven or eight years ago. I almost peed myself when I heard the opening score in the main menu, the epic song that is still found in EB II. I like it so much that even after modding my latest version of EB II for having the original vanilla RTW tracks, I've still kept the Europa Barbarorum main theme for all factions on the battle map. It still sends shivers down my spine! Powerful stuff, the kind you never forget.

I'd like to join this chorus of praise for EB II. For me one of the best things about this mod is the detailed descriptions of each province, which talk about the geography of the land, the main towns and sights, as well as the people and culture and the history. I love the music too. The immersion is just incredible. Absolutely brilliant game and even the battles look phenominal. This mod is a wonderful way to relax after a day at work and forget all about the world for a few hours (usually until my wife tells me it's late and i need to stop playing!) Thank you EB II team for the great work.

Before i go I'll add one more word of praise, and that is how responsive the team is to the community. I was really impressed by the thoughtful and considerate response to a thread i made about the geography of Persia in the game. The changes arising from that were quickly added in a patch and are now active in the game. It's just another example of the team's heroic dedication to realism and gameplay and historical detail. Thank you guys!

In my opinion, Europa Barbarorum's historical accuracy and realism have raised the bar for any game mod or game itself which intends to represent a historical period. The first EB version leaded the way, but EBII has even raised it further so CA games seem a bad historical joke (pretty much science fiction)... When you try EBII, there's no way back... As soon as you try a similar game/mod and you find that there's not a close level or historical approach, you end up easily disappointed...

Thank you so much for your work, dedication and patience!!! (but at the same time, I curse you for ruining other games/mods )

Looking forward to EBII 2.3!!! Cheers and take your time.

On the bright side RTW II reused many of the unit concepts found in EB (not EBII since it wasn't released yet during their production phase).

Which ironically was the belated fulfillment of EB's original goal as while they didn't get their ideas into the original RTW they still got them into its successor.

Although the family tree and lack of traits made RTW II a disappointment on the strategic level.

Totally agree! People wouldn't accept eastern factions with purple pijamas anymore hahaha

You shouldn't play RTWII without DeI and their submods. RTWII Attila and Age of Charlemagne are their best versions thanks to re-adding the family tree and fixing stuff. However, the province/region and traits systems, and the shallowness of building tree are a clear sign of CA poor design, which seems to be continued for the future CA games...

Ancient Empires (AE) for Attila is planning to mix EBII/Roma Surrectum 3 ideas for building trees and try to improve traits, so let's see if there's a more complete and historical sucessor.

Edit: Forgot to mention... Well, Kingdom Come Deliverance is going to be a historically-accurate (they even hired historians) RPG game set in the medieval Bohemia, which may be big enough to boost even more this historical accuracy genre and trend. In my experience, EB has been the first mod/game to be played in such historical standards (Age of Empires caught my attention as a child for history, but it's kind of historical-fictional salad). Correct me if I'm wrong, but EB seems to me as the first real historically-accurate portray into a videogame, proving that learning history is not only fun but a pleasure...

We should be very grateful to all EBI and EBII team members, as I believe that you have inspired other teams to pursue the same goal and format but in different platforms! My everlasting respect

Popping in to add my thanks as well. Few weeks back i started listening to the ancient warfare magazine podcast again, and thought about how awesome EB 1 was when i played it back in the day. So I decided to download and try it again. Imagine my surprise when I realized they released a sequel!

Adding my thanks here. EBII is an amazing mod - I don't see myself leaving it for any other iteration of Total War (except for maybe EBIII...)

Not a fan of Stainless Steel or Third Age: Total War then? The latter is admittedly fantasy based on Tolkien's LOTR universe, but Stainless Steel is purely about the High and Late Middle Ages. It's a great mod, you should check it out, if only for the epic invasion of the Mongol Golden Horde from the east. I also love the way the late medieval Venetian units look, with their colorful mixture of red-painted helmets and armor. The French knights and their barded mounts are also visually stunning, especially with the Late Knights submod. Invasio Barbarorum II, set in late antiquity, is also worth checking out.

First - I'd also like to say thank you for the devs of EBII. Great job and please carry on (not only with 2.3, but further on).

I fully agree on this. To my mind, there're three "great M2TW mods" worth playing: EBII, TATW and SS. For those interested in other historical periods / geographical areas also Broken Crescent, The Thirty Years War, The Italian Wars, The Rise of Three Kingdoms are well-developed.

I fully agree on this as well. Additionally, the gameboard is so arcade that's difficult to call it a map anymore. Also the battles provide for a different feeling, inferior to my mind (but I haven't checked the recent DeI changes in this respect, done by KAM2015).

Mod leader of the SSHIP: traits, ancillaries, scripts, buildings, geography, economy.
    ..............................................................................................................................................................................
If you want to play a historical mod in the medieval setting the best are:
Stainless Steel Historical Improvement Project and Broken Crescent.
Recently, Tsardoms and TGC look also very good. Read my opinions on the other mods here.
    ..............................................................................................................................................................................
Reviews of the mods (all made in 2018): SSHIP, Wrath of the Norsemen, Broken Crescent.
Follow home rules for playing a game without exploiting the M2TW engine deficiencies.
Hints for Medieval 2 moders: forts, merchants, AT-NGB bug, trade fleets.
Thrones of Britannia: review, opinion on the battles, ideas for modding. Shieldwall is promising!
Dominant strategy in Rome2, Attila, ToB and Troy: “Sniping groups of armies”. Still there, alas!

Great point, I almost only play EB II, TATW (MOS submod), and Stainless Steel. I have played Bellum Crucis and De Bello Mundi in the past, though. I've seen video game play of Rise of the Three Kingdoms and plan to download it, but I just never got around to it. I really should, though, because it's a rare privilege to see anything this good for a Total War series involving the late Han Dynasty and early Three Kingdoms period of China. My one gripe is that, while making the units themselves realistic, the game developers opted for the silly borrowing of body models from the Dynasty Warriors franchise for certain named characters. For instance, on the battle map Xiahou Dun looks like he does in Dynasty Warriors, funky colored clothing and everything.

I think he was saying that he liked EB2 so much that he is wiling to still play M2TW to get it, and that all the newer engines aren't worth it since you can't play EB on them.

DeI (based on Rome 2) is pretty decent, but the engine limitations on ancillaries and traits really crimp the roleplay potential.

Actually, Warhammer goes back to a more free-form trait and ancillary system (up to 6 ancillaries instead of 8 but could be worked with), and you can have 10+ traits active. It's probably the first engine between Empire and Rome 2 that the EB style could possibly be built on. Though you'd still be working with limited building slots. But I don't know that the map is editable, and I think you can't import outside graphical resources either, so I have no idea what EB3 could possibly be based on, should it ever be considered.
