People of Britannia, i roam, and wherever i may roam.
I'm honestly not sure if Caligula is good for entertainment purposes or not.
Not sure why so many people dislike the Eagle. I quite enjoyed it and found it better than the psychotically fast paced Centurion.
Same, I didn't really like Centurion that much. Even Michael Fassbender couldn't save what was for me a rather incoherent plot. The Eagle while not perfect, I think had better plot and action to it.
This Britannia TV show seems to be going the same way as Jamestown - hijacked by people wanting it to be some sort of inspiration for women... And cheesy more to the point.
Still waiting for a good Roman TV show though.
Edit: Aside from Spartacus smh
Oh yes, forgot about that... never seen it mind... Unfortunately thats still only really two mainstream shows but ah well

Already saw the CinemaSnob video some years ago. Not sure if Caligula is porn or not...
It must be really bad porn and a really bad movie. Choose one or the other. But the first scene with Tiberius traumatized me severely.
Gosh and I thought GoT was bad. Unfortunately I do wonder how much sex/nudity Britannia is going to have, I mean, it's almost becoming more normal to have it than not these days
Pretty sure both the ancient Celtic peoples and Romans got naked and had sex on occasion. Is this a problem somehow? It shouldn't even break with immersion and historical realism. This just seems like an odd pet peeve/niche complaint to me. Surely there are bigger concerns and faults to point out, like with cinematography, dialogue, narrative pacing, character development, non-historical personas, etc.
we are still trapped by victorian, calvinist or catholic morals, some countries suffer more from it than others.
so yeah, its a pet peeve. youll notice violence isnt really a problem for many, i guess that because religious gore can be pretty intense.
our churches got a guy nailed to a cross, crown of thorns, wounds, blood lovingly depicted, i mean look at that

No but it is pretty annoying. We could have more meaningful scenes but instead here is Little Finger giving a monologue to the sound of hookers getting off.
the whole monologue was a good example why show, dont tell. the nudity was a feeble distraction for badly done exposition, not the point of the scene, you can add brothel nudity anywhere around LF at any time.
Well of course the Celts got it on, Im just referring to excessive nudity for no reason. Also, it does make it quite a bit more awkward if you would wish to watch it with certain members of your family.. And of course gory violence can definitely take away from a piece of film. Personally I would take the Revenant for example parts of it were hard to watch, esp. as it's based on a true story, as is Britannia (to a degree-we'll have to see how accurate it is)
So all Episodes should come in January 18th and there was a new trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehi112rPwQA
At second 33 you see a roman army marching. They have some strange flaggs and we already talked about the leather armour, black legionaries and dozends of femal leaders, but i think the production value is rather high. It can't be as bad as Knight Templars so i will give it a try. Maybe it will become a guilty pleasure series for me.
Proud to be a real Prussian.
i think was a co production with several studious, from France and Canada, i believe. Is there anything about Roman Gaul? As far as I can think of some Julius Caesar films have the conquest of Gaul, there is also the film Druids which also has Julius Caesar in it, so no coincidence. Julius Caesar was probably the best thing to happen to Gaul I guess.
With Focus on Vercingétorix, from what i remember.

It's silly, though not totally entirely rubbish. First episode is an hour-ish long and while a lot happens, almost nothing happens.
First thing that jars is the theme music. Donovan's 'Hurdy Gurdy Man.' Why!.. This isn't just an odd choice, it's comically stupid. Immersion lost before the show even starts. The rest of the music is fairly nondescript and bland.
Language/accents. Hearing the Roman leader (David Morrissey) speak with a colloquial British accent (posh scouser) just didn't fit. Especially jarring when the high cast Briton's are speaking with BBC accents. They throw in some Latin/Celtic language with seemingly no reason to it... *Nod to GoT here, northerners have northern accents and southerners have southern accents. Rome - common soldiers have regional accents, officers have posh accents.
Costumes: Romans actually look passable as Romans, I'm sure there are details in armour and helmets that are off, but nothing leaps out to me. The Celts on the other hand, some look passable, others look like they've escaped a bad 80's discotheque theme park. The Druids are utterly over the top fantasy, more 'Mad Max' than any attempt at historical probability.
Weapons/Shields; Romans, again passable but very generic. Celts, don't see enough of them, a couple of round shields on horsemen, not terrible. We see one female with a bow, nice bow/arrows, probably ordered off ebay.
Fight scenes, use of weapons. Not much in the first episode, but what there is looks nonsense.
Atmosphere: there really isn't much. Though they try hard, really hard.
I didn't hate it. There was a charm to it, possibly because there are some good actors in there and not enough happened to make it utter dog dirt (like Knightfall). That said, I don't see this becoming a hit.
since people are all ready to on BBCs troy, remember when the BBC was involved in a certain series about rome, and then they dumped it?
halies, does this series have tiddies at least? they cant have been stupid enough to try to capitalize on GOT while leaving out the tiddies.
