"The regency is under threat from the Queen's faction, my good lord." The rat-faced Ratcliffe states as soon as he sights George Neville. "Queen Elizabeth has brought the King to Eltham and her brother lied to my master, Lord Protector Gloucester, about his intentions. We have reason to fear an armed coup to violate the late King's will and install the Woodvilles as masters of all England through her poor son is imminent."
George's eyebrow goes up slightly at these remarks. Of course, the snake queen would not simply let the will of the late king go as it was.
And you wish to get my family involved do you?
They had been involved once, in supporting Queen Woodville, only to get backstabbed and much of George's inheritance removed.
What does your master wish for us to do? Our lands are too far away to be of any help. Even if we gathered troops to support the Lord Protectors, it may be too late.

"I do, and who's to say this matter will be resolved by the time your men reach London?" Ratcliffe said with a shrug. "This is a thorny struggle, one that is unlikely to be fully resolved even should the Queen's faction and the Protectors' make peace, and one in which it should be clear which side is less beneficial to your own house, Lord Neville." As to what to do, well, that was an excellent question indeed. "You are correct in that the bulk of your family's estates are far to the north, and that by the time the Earl Rivers has made it to the capital, it is likely that it will be too late for your kin and soldiers to make a difference, especially as the Queen is certain to amass her vast network of allies and landed kin to her side. But my lord of Gloucester is a patient and persistent man, and will not soon forget the works of the Woodvilles in undermining his Protectorate. For now, he asks only for a guarantee of your support in the future, for whatever plans he may hatch to remedy his situation - provided, of course, that he escapes the situation brewing in London with his head."
Lord Hastings arrives at Montagu with a request to see Lord Montagu.
The brother-in-law of Lord Montagu is shown into Raby Castle where John Neville was preparing his soldiers to head north to join in the Berwick campaign.
He was viewing his accounts to make sure money was ready to hire necessary soldiers and needed mercenaries.
My Lord Hastings, it is nice to see you again. We haven't seen each other since the battlefields of France. Come, what brings you here?

Sir Ratcliffe finds Lord Neville is preparing soldiers to be sent to Lord Gloucester for his Berwick campaign. Yet he was still led into Raby Castle and shown to the Lord Neville.
Sir Ratcliffe, I suspect your master has sent you to request forces from me. He need not worry, they are being prepared as we speak.

"Splendid! That's indeed part of why I came here." Ratcliffe said, looking and sounding quite pleased indeed. "But that's not all. His Grace also wishes to inquire as to your feelings as to the ascendancy of the Queen Mother, and her actions as of late. Did you hear she's lifted the attainder on your cousins from the Stafford-blooded line of your house, among other things?"

He chuckles, "It has been far to long." He says turning to the courtyard. "And I wish I came during more pleasant times. The realm is in turmoil it seems." He sighs shaking his head. "How fairs your house? I see your men making ready for war."

I prepare my men to join in the Scottish campaign, led by the Duke of Gloucester, my Lord.
Lord Montagu glances outside his castle, seeing the men being armed and doing their routine drills.
Freshly raised from those families and commoners that live upon my lands and owe great loyalty to the Neville family.
John sighs deeply.
And someday, the Queen will surely see to it that a Lancastrian once more holds these lands...

Did I hear, Sir Ratcliffe? I have been the punching bag of the realm for many years! I am reminded every day of that bastard Neville seeking my lands!
John Neville was hardly in the mood of being reminded of where he was in the realm.
The Duke of Exeter confiscates the lands of my son, Richard, and forces me to pay for their return, while they trot off with god knows what from my late cousin, James!
Montagu scoffs slightly.
The Queen seems willing to bed with those of Lancastrian loyalty... both Exeter and that bastard, Sir Ralph, are in bed with her obviously.

It may have just been a trick of the lighting, but a smirk may have flickered on Ratcliffe's face when he heard Montagu's outburst, as if he were willing Yes, get angry at these injustices. "The Queen does appear to be awfully friendly towards these fellow former Lancastrians, doesn't she, my lord? The other Nevilles, of course, and Holland too. And her son's hardly been seen since the coronation to boot. Let's add these items to the recent arrest of two dukes and the interdict placed on London on the 'list of things my master finds concerning. The question is..." Ratcliffe paused for dramatic effect. "What do you aim to do about it all, my lord, if I might inquire?"
"The queens actions have been erratic, since her ascent." Hastings says, "She seems to have little regard for the family and friends of the late King." Hastings says his voice tinged with distaste. "If she is allowed to keep going as she is the realm will surly suffer." The past few months had had Hastings on edge. It was refreshing to discuss this so openly after the intrigue of the capital.

Then she must be removed, Lord Hastings. Otherwise, the King will be in danger with her madness increasing daily.
With the arrests of notable men within the realm, Montagu knew that he was among those to be arrested or attained if he didn't move.
Who else could be relied upon against the Queen?

For the sake of the King, Sir Ratcliffe, I am willing to fight against the tyranny of the Queen and her family. Or else all the great dukes of realm will be replaced by those of her family.

"I agree she must go Hastings says." To the Lord Montagu. "Mowbary and the Archbishop of Canterbury agree that she is unfit to rule. I am sure Duke Gloucester and Clarence will as well." He pauses considering. "I am sure their are others as well."

"The Duke of Gloucester will appreciate your candor and willingness to stand up for what is right, my lord." Ratcliffe replied smoothly, evidently pleased that the Marquess of Montagu - a man who had taken the Woodville-Grey faction's earlier gnawing at his estates, however legally and technically justifiable, and insults remarkably quietly, and who'd just told him that he let the Duke of Exeter extort him - now seemed to have started up a fire in his belly. Considering the grim circumstances, they would need a man truly worthy of being called the Kingmaker's brother if they were to force the Queen and her affinity out of their positions. "But, the time to evict her from London is not yet upon us, as far as I know. For now, all he requires is that you join him at York. He believes you both can plan your next move there, safely ensconced with your and our loyal liveried men and away from the nest of vipers that is London."
A letter came from the royal court, a handwritten letter by the hand of princess Elizabeth. It was intended for her cousin, Elizabeth de la Pole, wife of George Neville that she was appointed a lady-in-waiting to the new Queen and they would receive her at Westminister as swiftly as possible.
