Hey
After having played Huryle 4.6 for a bit, I decided to post some of my thoughts and feedback about it here
1. Epic Heroes unbalance the game in the player's favor.
Epic Heroes such as for example the Twilight Uno or General Onox, or the Moblin's Demise demon, change the meta of the game dramatically. Unless properly countered, such as by using Siege Weapons or Keaton Saboteurs, these units are virtually invincible to many conventional armies, and I have regularly soloed up to 3 army stacks at the same time using the Moblin's Demise general and no other unit.
Because they require special tactics to take down, which the AI is not smart enough to use, wars in TW: Hyrule often become about finding the enemy's epic heroes, killing them, and then steamrolling their remaining forces regardless of their numbers.
While I'll admit I took great amusement in single-handedly destroying Hyrule using only Demise during my Moblin playthrough, it became a bit monotonous after a while, as Battles often involved me simply sending in my hero, turning the battle speed up to 6x, and simply waiting for him to decimate the entire enemy army.
The rest of my army became relegated to glorified castle keepers and police forces.
At the moment, they certainly do feel a bit game-breaking.
2. Elite units rendering midline or lower troops irrelevant.
One thing I have noticed whilst playing this game is how the minor differences between prices, upkeep and production time of the elite units versus the rest does not seem to match the wide gap in performance between them. One example would be Knights for the Hyrule faction that will vastly outperform regular infantry, despite an insignificant increase in price. This means that Knights will quickly become the mainline of your armies, and you will not have to recruit regular units. As soon as the necessary production facilities are in place, you can generally switch out your basic units with pure elite units at only a mediocre increase in prices but vast increase in performance.
Whilst it's fun to make an army consisting solely of badasses, I feel it does a disservice to the unit diversity in this game when you'll only be using the elite ones. I don't want the ability to make elite armies be removed, but I think the price for making one should equal their increased performance.
3. Crashes. Lots of them.
I find that I crash in every third battle, and the likelihood of a crash only increases the more units are involved. There are some units that'll crash the game for me regardless, such as the Witch heroes of the Gerudo. I do not know if it's because this version is more buggy, or if it's just something on my end, but I'd nonetheless like to state it. By comparison, I experienced only a single crash in 20 hours in Third Age, and even experienced less crashes in Call of Warhammer.
On a more positive note, I do enjoy how merchants are done in this game. merchants can easily reach city levels of gold generation, encouraging you to wage trade wars and conquer areas so you can block off resources with your units. It adds a level of depth that I find very fun.
