    Default 2.2r - Unspecified error - historic_events

    Hello,

I'm working on a french translation of EBII.

I have a crash when I'm starting a new campaign.

The probleme seems to come from the historic_events, because when I replace it by the english one, it work fine.

There nothing about this in the error log.

At the past, this file worked good.

I have add all the last changes in this. So, it should work. But it don't.

Is there a number limitation of word ?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Did you delete the strings file (historic_events.txt.strings.bin) after putting the French version in? You need to do that in order for the game to regenerate them.

What did you use to edit the file? Most of MS Word's autocorrect characters are invalid (slanted quotation marks, apostrophes, long hyphens, etc).

    Hello,
Sorry for my late answer, but I was very busy.
For the string file, I deleted it every time I make an update. And, to edit the files, I use WordPad. It work fine and there is no autocorrection.
I have tried to delete each part of the historic_events to find an eventual problem of typo.
So definitively, it's an hard coded limit for the historic_events file. The french version is larger than the english one.
To solve this problem, I have transfered a part of the historic_events in the descr_buidings. And now it works fine.
The part I have transfered is "Writing in Celtic". Now in my translation, it appair in the starting province description of celtic factions. Instead of the english version full message, there is a short message that explain where is the full text of the french version.
If you are interested, the link for the translation :

I think, when the version 2.3 will be released, I will have to update a lot of text.

I wouldn't be so sure WordPad hasn't invisibly inserted invalid characters. There's a reason the team only works with Notepad++ - because we know it absolutely doesn't do any of those things.

There may be hardcoded limits with some files, we've been struggling with them in the development build recently. Specifically the export_buildings was too big (too many characters).

    Finally, you were right.

I have added again, with Notepad++, the full "Writing in Celtic" text in the historic_events and it work fine.

Thank you for your help. For the next updates, I will only use Notepad++.

For the export_buildings limitation, it's a bad news. Because the french version is larger than the english one.

Keep your export_buildings.txt file at 11,000KB or less and you won't have a problem. This particular issue appears as a custom battle CTD (campaigns work fine).

Thank you for the information. I will try to keep it under the 11,000KB.

Is the 2.3 version of the export_buildings near of this 11,000KB limit ?

Yes, it's just over 11,000KB, we had to chop a load of stuff out to make it fit.
