    Icon2 Yogi bears' Shield Wall Mod

    We all remember the shield wall from RTW:BI and many have wondered (including myself) why it wasn't included in Med2. I have put together a simple mod that will add the shield wall formation to appropriate units such as spear and town militias.

    **This mod changes the export_descr_unit.txt file so please make a backup before installation.**

    Installing:
    Simply put the export_descr_unit.txt file to your med2 data folder.
    Default: C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data

    Congrates mate , so we are free to use in our own mods HAH ? anyway so did you guys figured the way to use the turtle formation from RTW into M2TW ? Also for gunman or other untis using the schiltrom ?

    The problem is that shild wall bring nothing, in defense they lose if would be melee and italian spearmen at shild wall formation lose abot 50 men to peasant archers. Better to charge them in normal formation.

    Can anybody tell wants the bonus of the shield wall? I've tested it against cavalry and it prooves that it is totally useless against cav. They totally destroyed my men much faster then normal because they were standing closer together.

    Then I tested it against archers. Indeed, they take less losses. But only afew men less.

    So what is the real benefit of this formation? :hmmm:

    Will it be possible to mod the game to mkae the shield wall more effective? I would definately use the mod if i could see any real use for it other than cosmetic.

    As far as I know the animations were always a hardcoded part of the game...

    The formation does not get scattered easily, making it very good choice for defensive line or defending bridges or gates.

    What I've heard was that it would give units defence bonus and make units more resistant to missile attacks.

    But they get easily wipped out by cavalry attacks. They really die quickly that way. So it's just effective against infantry...maybe.

    The formation makes them harder to hit from missile units as the complete size of the unit decreases down to a small block rather than having the men spread out more. So now only the very accurate arrows will hit, not all the stray ones that hit the guys on the side etc.

    As for cavalry, its not a good idea...the main purpose of the wall is to hold the enemy and not let them break through the lines. They will hold for awhile which gives you enough time to send other units around to go flank the enemy engaged in your wall.

    Another bonus is they look awesome.
