Thread: A Rebranding of Asia Empires now called 17th Century Revolution

Default A Rebranding of Asia Empires now called 17th Century Revolution

A lot of you might remember Asia Empires, the mod by Againster. It's set during the upheaval of the Ming Dynasty by threats without and within. This is the second in the " XXth Century Revolution" series of mods, the first of which you may have seen in the other thread "1.9 Sigh of Empire: The Storm Riders (A 19th Century Revolution)"

From what I gather from Falcom and the Wanmod forums, Againster has real life to deal with and has paused modding at the moment. Evenmov has taken over the project.

The mod, back when it was called Asia Empires, has a free release with the links uploaded by me here:

10/15/2017 Update: Againster and Evenmov have split the teams over differences in the direction of which they would like to take Chinese modding. Therefore from now on I will refer to Evenmov's version as "17th Century Revolution" and Againster's version as "Asia Empires"

This thread will advertise 17th Century for the time being.

    This is probably Version 0.6

    This is the 0.8 Version

    ==========================

At the moment, 17th Century Revolution has a closed beta release. This thread will be used to preview the faction rosters from the mod as it is updated. You will recognize some of the assets from Asia Empires but also from some other Chinese mods set during the Ming Dynasty.

I will reiterate this policy from the other thread:

Whether you agree or disagree with paying for mods, I hope you will try this version. It is untranslated. Please do not ask me for a link to the paid version. Even if you obtained it, the ability to start up the mod is linked to the wanmod website and if their mod launcher cannot verify that you paid for the mod/have a special account on the website then vanilla M2 will start instead of the mod.

Do note that this mod is untranslated, so there may be a lot of things that are confusing, especially the scripted events.

Without further ado, here are the faction rosters that I will post as soon as I have time.
The names of the units are literal translations because I don't have time to do in-depth research and translation. My apologies.
You may recognize the predecessors of some of the units from Sigh of Empire.

Default Re: A Rebranding of Asia Empires now called 17th Century Revolution

The Ming factions are a bit complicated, as they are split into multiple armies led by famous generals of the period. Some of these subfactions have only the regular Ming roster, but others have units unique to them in addition to the generic Ming Chinese roster. Also, some of the Ming subfactions are able to switch allegiance to the Qing and by doing so, they gain access to the Qing roster (mainly Green Standard units) and lose access to the Ming roster.

What mainly distinguishes them are their starting positions.

    Ming Faction and Army Subfactions
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Ming Imperial Court

Strength: Economic powerhouse with access to all troop types.
Weakness: Surrounded by enemies on all sides; campaign begins with a system taxed to its limits.

Guan Ning Defense Force (They were the garrison based on the Guan Ning Defense Line which guarded the Ming Empire against the Qing)
Shares the unit roster with the Ming Imperial Court.

Strength: Has access to all troop types. Superior cavalry.
Weakness: Limited economy, strong enemies close by.

    Mu Family Army
They were a Muslim Chinese family who were responsible for guarding Yunnan near Burma and Vietnam.
Shares the unit roster with the Ming Imperial Court and has its own Southwest units.

Strength: Friendly relations with Western colonists. Skilled characters.
    Weakness: Troops have low morale.

Zheng Family Army (Koxinga came from this family)

Famous for guarding the Ming Empire's southeastern coast, later resisted the Qing from Taiwan. Also kicked the Dutch out of Taiwan.
Shares the unit roster with the Ming Imperial Court and has its own unique units.

Strength: Strong ranged troops. Unique tough "Iron Troops" (Players of Age of Empires 3 will recognize these guys)
Weakness: Lacking in scouts and cavalry.

I'll start with the generic Ming Army roster. It is divided into a Northern Army and a Southern Army.
    They're identical in stats, mostly.

Northern regions also produce an "Elite Standard/Picked Men" unit that are essentially elites.

There is also an Imperial group of units that presumably guard the capital and have the best stats.

    Southern Swordsmen

    Southern Spearmen

    Northern Spearmen

    Divine Engine Gunners

    Elite Standard Matchlocks

    Northern Scouts

    Southern Scouts

    Joseon Dynasty Korea

I noticed that this mod has some assets that I haven't seen in the Imjin War mod. Too bad this mod doesn't have the Korean Marines unit. I liked their uniforms.

This is a remake of Asia Empires and is a work in progress.

Sigh of Empire is more complete.

In fact, this mod is just like Asia empire, they have almost the same material, but continued by another team.
We have added too many brand new things so I prepare to redone most of the mod,it will take very very long time, and some of them can't wait, they use exist things, and try to finish the mod in a quick but simple way.
For me, I would love to play some minor faction like Sulu, Dzungar, Maratha(but most of Chinese player will only pay attention to Chinese faction like Ming dynasty or Qing dynasty)...and I may take more attention at map, campaign and history description, though these can not be reflected in screenshot, but it will take many time to finish it,and I'm pursuing my Master Degree,so I don't know when I can finish the mod

Oh, I see I see. Focus on studies first. I'm sure years from now Medieval 2 will still have an active playerbase as the new games are less moddable.

This is because the one you downloaded is the original Asia Empires mod and not the one I am previewing in this thread, which is a remaking of Asia Empires under the new name "17th Century Revolution"
