First off, I'd like to apologize if this thread is in the wrong sub-forum.
Though the buzzing, borderline monotone barbarian soundtrack gave me nostalgia at first, I quickly recalled why I'd replaced the Irish beehives in the first place all those years ago: it gets to the point of sometimes giving me a mild headache.
I began with the battle soundtrack at first and worked like a charm so, while I was at it, I decided I'd just copy my music folder over from the old RTW installation and fiddle around with descr_sounds_music. Since it seems to work more or less identically to RTW's system, I just tried pasting over entire portions of..
Code
..where appropriate. I didn't touch any of the major sections at this point. Upon starting up, however, I got a "fatal graphics error" of all things and nothing in the log pertaining to the new (or replaced) music at all. I tried simply streamlining it at first, by merging the changed sections rather than redundantly adding all of the changes to each sub-section ("music_type cul_3, f_seleukid, f_baktria, f_ptolemaioi, f_bosporan" in one section rather than giving each their own section). It gave me the same CTD, so then I simply tried reverting all changes and changing just one "state MUSIC_BATTLE_TENSION" section, adding just one track. Now it worked again. I kept experimenting so much that I'll skip the small details and give you the bullet points.
- Merging the music types of sub-sections works fine as long as the actual soundtrack is essentially unchanged.
- Removing the tags from the mp3s has no noticeable effect.
- Turning the graphics down to their absolute minimum doesn't help.
- There are no typos in the changed code or missing tracks at all.
I'm at a total loss at this point. Did the rules of music files change between RTW and M2TW? Is the mod so heavy that it glitches out when rebuilding the events.idx and events.dat files? Any help or information, no matter how elementary, would be appreciated. Thank you.
