The Lollard Menance
Rain smashed on the roof of York manor this late evening... The Duke of York had just feasted together with his sons on a large boar. Margaret, the dukes wife had been upstairs with the couple's daughter who had contracted a cold a week before. Edward had invited his knight, Sir Thomas Goffrey to join him and his sons for dinner, otherwise fine meat would've been wasted he thought. While Edward grew cold since he had become Lord Chancellor and more introvert, love for his sons had been displayed in his household since the day they were born. His friendship with Thomas was also public knowledge, Thomas had seen the duke grow up, become a duke and even help materialize a rebellion. Edward had taken Edmund and William on his lap while the servants cleared the table, shortly after a maid came to put them to bed.
With them out of the room and the servants instructed by the Duke to leave him and Thomas alone after they had brought some new wine inside Edward began talking to his friend. "We need to think of something to get rid of that Neville woman." Edward said while he had sipped his wine and lowered his cup. He felt hatred for every Neville, his brother had fallen head over heals for this controlling woman.. Word had spread she had even called for his levies during the rebellion, a woman! preposterous he thought.
Thomas followed suit and sipped his wine as well, he was more of an ale man but after being the dukes friend for years he had grown accustomed to what he called Grape Juice. "Perhaps now you have received the regent ship over Richard's lands you could do something to implicate her being a Lollard or something" Thomas wasn't really a man that enjoyed talking, yet he never shy'd away of giving Edward advice.
The duke ran his hand through his hear "hmm." It was relatively easy to get acces to Richard's London home, planting something there would be easy however it wasn't assured Richard was left out of the accusations then.. On the other hand Edward never had cared too much about his brother due to there being questions about his legitimacy. "We could perhaps acquire a Lollard bible for some coin..." Edward said faintly, none was to hear this but Thomas.
Thomas interjected having thought of something. "The butcher's boy, he's a dreamer, he wishes to become a knight someday. I have shared a cup of ale many times with his father. Perhaps the boy could be chartered for some coin and vague promises of a knighthood. Since he has grown up near powerful nobles I suppose he knows to keep his mouth shut."
Edward tapped his fingers and had a slight grin. "Excellent Thomas, see if you can talk to the boy at the cover of night, do know though that if he is caught and he rats you out, I can do nothing for you." Edward would have to deny any involvement, however could he let his friend be captured and trialed? It was a long shot but securing the family line was an important matter, worth more then friendship to Edward. The future of the house laid upon his shoulders.
Thomas proceeded to drink the remainder of his cup of wine in full at once. "I shall your Grace." He went towards his chamber and fetched his cloak, on his way to the door Edward threw a bag of coins at him. "Here, it should suffice to buy his silence." Thomas nodded and went out of the door.

Some hours later Sir Thomas was cloaked and standing under a roof near the butchers shop, focusing on the back door where he knew the butchers boy would often go out and dispose of the less desirable parts of the animals they butchered. After what seemed hours the boy finally came outside.. Throwing away something that looked like tainted meat... "Boy" Thomas said startling the boy visibly. "Do you remember who I am?" Thomas asked, removing the cloak from his head. After the boy had given positive reply Thomas went on to propose his offer. "I have 100 pounds here, which could be yours. Would you wish to earn these coins boy?"
