    Default 2.2L Kimmerios Bosporos CTDs

    Hi EB Team,

I had 3 CTDs (around turns 45, 90 and 105) playing as Kimmerios Bosporos. CTDs occur after ending my turn. I've attached the log from the most recent CTD.

CTDs were no issue as I just reloaded the autosave, ended my turn again and watched as all other factions went through their turn successfully.

I've had no other issues playing them...except that all my faction members still end up being superstitious country bumpkins, but that's just Bosporan life, right?

    Hope this helps!

Weird, there isn't even a terminating error in that one.

Having autosave enabled isn't a good idea, that corrupts saves.

Autosaves are bad?! Oh man...I'm really bad at remembering to save, especially with the CTDs. Time to make a new habit...

Speaking of which, besides the CTDs that have a popup telling me to send you folks the log, I have a few where after clicking unit cards or whatnot on the campaign map, sometimes the game just CTD with no popup. I feel like it might be a M2TW issue from having the game on too long (3+ hours), but it has been so long since I've played vanilla I'm not sure.

Yes, the longer the session, the more likely you are to have memory leaks. That's the cause of the card-related crashes.

Have you altered your logging as per the instructions, that has a big impact on performance and stability.

Thanks for the info. Can I just quit and reload the game, or is there some sort of "cool-down period"?

I have since installed 2.2M and started a new game as Baktria. This is the first time I've had a CTD mid-battle. Turn 56. Siege of Kapisa (sp?). Log attached. Game had been running about 90 minutes.

Also, when I was playing KB I noticed I could recruit Hyperapistai and Thorakitai Epilektoi from Khersonesos with Paradynastic Governement, but not from the Royal Satrapy gov in Pantikapaion. Also I couldn't recruit regular Thorakitai in my homeland areas (whether or not they had Hellenistic Polis or Hellenistic Settler Colonies). In Paniardis I couldn't hire Thureopherontes (Hippo)Toxotai with the Helleno-Nomadic Satrapy. Lastly after the 1st Hellenistic Reforms I couldn't recruit thureophoroi, euzonoi or machairophoroi until the Late Hellenistic Reforms occurred.

I tried to edit these myself in the buildings file but after trying once (with the game unable to load; reverted to the original file afterwards) I realized just how much work has been put into EB2, and that's not counting 3D unit graphics! I used to change M2TW stuff all the time but there are so many scripts, triggers and resources now.

    Thanks again!

Simply quitting (to desktop) and restarting should be fine. I would guess that is long enough to move everything out of memory.

I can't see anything unusual in there; again there's a long time between the last error and the crash, and even between the last trace and crash. Sieges can be buggy anyway, if you've already been playing a long session (over an hour) I'd recommend saving, quitting and restarting before doing a big siege.

Recruitment is entirely by design. The "higher" Royal Satrapy is not actually a better government than the Paradynastic one, necessarily because it's no longer relatives of the Archon in charge. It's simply easier to establish in a wider range of places. Thorakitai aren't really appropriate for the northern Pontic region - they got their heavy infantry from Skythian settlers. The late appearance of reformed units is also intentional, it's something of a backwater compared to Hellas or Anatolia, which are at the centre of military evolution.

You can't edit the major files for a game in progress, it'll fail the validation check. That only works for a new campaign. You also need to make sure you use a proper editor, like Notepad++ to make the changes.

    Thanks for the prompt replies!

If I only have non-repeating CTDs which seem to be caused by overlong play sessions, should I still be sending error logs?

Just discovered the Recruitment Viewer. A treasure trove, for sure. Will there be something similar for buildings? Because that would be fantastic!

Are Thureophorontes (Hippo)toxotai then Greek-Skythians and not just a generic fusion of Greek and nomadic units? If so, I guess that's why they're not recruitable in Paniardis.

Are the primary benefits of the KB Satrapy then the wider geographic spread and the access to siege weapons?

For Baktria, I can't build phalangitai in Baktria despite the Satrapy building being available. Are they tied to independence?

You guys are great. I'm only a beginner at coding and graphical editing, but if there is anything I can manage to do, let me know and I'll try.

There may sometimes be something useful in a log, but if it doesn't repeat and comes at the end of a long session, chances are we won't learn anything new from it.

Rafkos was the one responsible for the RV, it's brilliant. Not sure if he has any further plans. Another team member is working on a guide which has details on buildings.

Thurepherontes units are Hellenised Skythians (except the ones who appear on the eastern Pontic shore near Armenia for Pontos). Paniardis needs to be converted, and a Helleno-Nomadic Satrapy installed to get those units. They don't come from the Clan-based governments.

Yes, the Satrapy is available more broadly, and gives siege engines. But not necessarily better recruitment.

Phalangitai come from the Hellenistic Colony (level two and above) in the right places. That being primarily Makedonia, Syria, Egypt and Anatolia; they peter out beyond there. You won't get them as far east as Baktria, it's too far away for Makedonian settlers to travel.
