Flinn has hexproof. He can't be the target of spells or abilities. Our only hope is a planar cleansing, which means we all have to die in order to kill Flinn.

It's an old, and time mangled tale.
My research, which included some unorthodox sources like necromantic ritual invoking Homer's spirit, yielded a first, unaltered version of the tale.
In the last weeks of the siege of Troy, Achilles, bored to death in the camp, challenged a tortoise to a race, which he predictably won. Not like the tortoise had any say in the matter of challenge. Angered and humiliated by the treatment, the tortoise set off to Troy to find a way to enact a revenge. On its way there, it was passed by a bunch of warriors, led by Achilles, fighting yet another pointless skirmish. Sensing an opportunity, the tortoise snapped at Achilles' heel, causing him to scream in pain, dropping his guard for a moment, which is when Paris managed to shoot him.
The tale did not end here, though. You see, Paris led a foraging party to scour whatever food they could. And so the tortoise's last laugh was cut short when it was boiled and stewed and presented to Helen as that day's delicacy.
The turtle had a super hot bath, mixed with wine or milk and aroma from dozens of rare spices, herbs and flowers, and then cut up by the sharpest knifes painlessly and put on a silver plate. Its soul probably fell into love of itself when it saw the body from afterlife!
That's basically what an ascension is.
